  • Ranjeev Dubey's Kalka Shimla Railway in HOe (HO Scale trains running on 9mm gauge, equivalent to 2'6" Narrow Gauge in real life) is truly one-of-a-kind Model Railway in the world. A large display that has been completed in 9 years with incredible details and true representation of the location has now been featured in Continental Modeler through a series that is running for over 6 months - a testament to the importance and impact of this groundbreaking work.
    In this video I bring you very close to this miniature reality and its creator. You get to hear firsthand about his thoughts and approach of building a unique piece of art and a very heart to heart conversation about his model making approach.

    So very Indian in appearance, what a fantastic job and Ranjeev has such a good attitude to modelling/life! Never seen a "cased" home layout before, interesting concept to keep the dust out!

    • @TrainsandDioramas
      @TrainsandDioramas  3 года назад +2

      If you’re a looking for inspiration how to balance what you can do and cannot do abs yet aim to achieve something extraordinary, he’s your man! The casing is actually very necessary in India. I didn’t have one for the first few years of building my layout and had such trouble maintaining it. A lot of the teething issues were gone once I built a case. Thanks for looking, cheers!

    Awesome layout. The modeler sounds like an awesome guy too and is definitely a master at model railroading. I got as much enjoyment out of him as I did the model railroad. It's a very, very cool layout and in my mind what India looks like being I've only seen pictures and videos of India never visiting. Great video. Stay well. -Wil 👍

    Wow!! I was going to ask in a comment in a previous video if anyone has modelled Indian railways- this video answers that question.
    India is one of the great 'railway countries'- it is a shame that the hobby is not bigger there. All of which makes this model, and it's maker Ranjeev Dubey, incredibly unique and talented.
    I've never been to India, but I've seen films and documentaries, and I have friends who have been. I think, obviously not based on first-hand experience, that this model catches the light, the colours, and the atmosphere that I would have expected to see in the real location. The number one objective of any good model railway is for the builder to 'sell' a sense of the model being a real place, but in miniature. Immersion is everything- some models are 'technically correct' but fail to feel 'real', whereas this really does let the viewer suspend disbelief and get drawn in.
    A wonderful antidote to the cold grey skies and the drabness of Northern Europe at this time of year.

    • @TrainsandDioramas
      @TrainsandDioramas  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for stopping by Christopher, I will let Ranjeev know. I agree, ‘selling’ the feel of a real place is more important that actually modelling a real place to the very last detail - story always goes a long way. Ranjeev is a brilliant miniature artist and model railroader to have achieved it and that too in record time. This gives hope to the very small community of model railroaders here! Cheers, Kaustav

      I am really glad that this video was refreshing for you Andrew. I think the grand sucess of a miniature is when it reminds someone of a real place or a memory. Funny thing is, whenever you visit Shimla, now the real place will remind you of its miniature version - and I hope that you enjoy that trip! I experienced that once before during my visit to California where I saw a miniature first and then saw the real place and I recognized it from the miniature - it was quite psychedelic.Thank you for stopping by, I will pass on the complments to Ranjeev. Sorry for the long post but here it is... I am currently 18 yrs old and am sitting for jee examinations this year.... i love making models and stuff but could not build realistic scenary etc due to lack of materials and poor knowhow... I used to watch videos of foreign hobbyits and thought that good materials etc are only available abroad and this is simply an absurd dream to do in india.... but then I found your channel and my perspective changed... I would really love to communicate and get in touch with you regarding the same and get an experts advice on how to get started in this wonderful hobby once i clear all examinations... you also made me aware that there are such hobbyists in India too.. thank you so much for that... I love watching your videos.. also i would like to suggest you to make a dynamic model ( with cars, bicycles etc) with the help of a magnorail type system...would really love to see such a thing... I hope your channel will explode and you'll have millions of subscribers one day.. . love and appreciate your work!!

      Hi Aditya - Yes, Ranjeev is a magician no doubt! I am really excited about your project, it is really good to see that you are trying to recreate a real place in miniature. Jute fiber is the best alternative for static grass - I would say if you are not able to purchase static grass, use Jute fiber - if possible dye them using paint. Coming to painting and weathering, take a look at my Painting and Weathering playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLJG77T3HqmaZ2vKLMPXnvv8T-vOhMp-VT - I mostly use paints and materials available here. Colored chalk is good, but you will get even better results with dry pastel. Hope this helps.

    How to make this locomotives or coches

    • @TrainsandDioramas
      @TrainsandDioramas  3 года назад

      Ranjeev scratch-built all of them - found surtable mechanism of European engines and oconverted them to Indian. However, today you have the poser of 3D printing so if you have 3D designing skills, you can design and 3D print a locomotive. finding the mechanism is the same story still - have to find parts from abroad. Hope this helps. Cheers! Kaustav

    Un plastico ferroviario molto particolareggiato, ma a mio parere i colori sono un po' troppo vivaci, anche nella natura :)
