Even if most people criticise Gwyneth Paltrow, for me she is perfect as Emma! Her looks and acting very much match Emma from the book for me. And Jeremy Northam is the best actor for the role of Mr. Knightley. He is masculine, handsome and played a true gentleman. He is brilliant !

I couldn't agree more. Gwyneth Paltrow was perfect as Emma, and the rest of the cast were equally good, surely a "dream cast." Plus, all of the other aspects: costumes, settings, music, etc., were all one could ever want.

It must have been interesting for Sophie Thompson and Phyllis Law playing mother and daughter ( Miss Bates and her mother )since they are such in real life!…and of course the other talented daughter the brilliant Emma Thompson. Emma Thompson was in a movie with mother too in Much Ado About Nothing. I do like the latest version of Emma with Anya Taylor Joy. So let me get this straight, she doesn't want to get married because it would hurt her father? And so, this guy agrees to move in with his future in-laws? Is this sound advice to couples?

oh yes, those that DID manage to find a nice husband were indeed cherished- and they also had to live up to all sorts of expectations; others were forced into prostitution from poverty; farm wives worked day and night and looked it pretty soon; no woman could legally manage her own money; in England, men could file for divorce, but not women- the list goes on and there is absolutely no reason to glorify life for women in those times. Austen wrote fairy tales even by the standards of her own day, which is why she was so successful. I myself love her stuff and keep rereading, BTW

Как мне нравится актриса, играющая роль Эммы, она вовсе не похожа на англичанку: такая живая, эмоциональная, все понятно, хотя я не знаю инглиш.Прекрасное произведение, прекрасная игра актеров спасибо

I have seen all of the adaptations, and I have to say the 2020 version is by far the best...the acting (Anya Taylor Joy and Johnny Flynn have the loveliest chemistry, too), the costumes, the music (Johnny Flynn performing makes you fall head over heels for him). I do hope it receives some Golden Globes or Academy attention.

I respect your opinion, but I can’t say I agree. There were aspects of the latest adaptation I appreciated. But I wouldn’t call it the best overall.

I haven’t seen the most recent, I think I’m too attached to this version to give it a fair shot, but I have to say just looking at the cast, Johnny Flynn looks too young to be Mr. Knightley. Like I said though, I’m pretty biased. I love Jeremy Northam in this and An Ideal Husband.

I respect your opinion but have to disagree. Emma 2020 was delightful, but not the best.

  • @basmatez

Best version of "Emma" and Northam is the best Mr. Knightley by far, but none of them understands the period's social norms. He walks quickly forward while she is hurrying after him?! How rude, this never happens in the novel and could never happen! They walk together, though in silence. The dialogue? Why change from the original perfect conversation? A kiss?! Totally inappropriate, could never happen!

@@kyereCat Really? I must say, I prefer 1000 times to watch Gwyneth as Emma rather than Keira Knightley as Lizzy. I've watched Emma at least 20 times, but P&P with Knightley, I watched it once, and I never want to watch it again. The film was aweful and Knightley was allergy inducing for me

The part leading up to this clip, Emma’s hairstyle switches back and forth a few times. They obviously reshot parts with no sense of continuity. It really detracted from the scene.

They did some possible reshoots for the scene after the proposal and kiss. You can see the fake background after the first kiss. It's jarring to watch.

  • @margarettaylor473

Their kiss is messed up ... at 3:40 she is leaning right and in the next shot she is leaning the other way. So distracting, someone surely should have caught that!
