im a painter and decorator..bit of healthy advice..to cover the knots in any wood you want to use a product called zinsser. You apply it before any undercoat, primer or base coat and it will ensure the knots wont re-appear. Otherwise in a few weeks time..the knots will come back through. fireplace looks awesome though! 😀
Can I just say I loooovee the way you have your videos. If I was watching one video one day and then another the next day I wouldn’t skip a beat. Everything has been awesome!!! Can’t wait to try these out
Smart and well... adorbs!!! You’re super brilliant and experienced man!!!! I told my friend your Channel was awesome and that you weren’t just a pretty face. She laughed and she is now following you too. Great job 👍🏽
At 3:00 you used a jigsaw to cut out holes for the sockets. To make things easier you could have used your multitool. Might have been easier instead of using a jigsaw! Keep up the great videos! 👍😁
One tip I learned about painting knotty pine was to prime the knots with aluminium paint before applying the finishing coats. That way the knots will not "ghost through" later.
Varnish over knots and they will not come through your paint. I noticed that you framed your hearth with softwood, it will dent easily if ever his with vacuum cleaners, firewood, and other fireplace tools. If I recall some states require high ambeint electrical insulated wiring around fireplaces. NIce all-around job. Just stumbled into your channel. It's one of the best out there on RUclips and I see a lot of them. Your a very talented young man, major kudos to you. p.r.morehouse (author)
I would have used double and triple gang outlet boxes instead of cutting 5 opening. Faster and you save on creating a weak spot. Love the fished look! Stealing what I can to do mine.
So clean! Awesome work! New subscriber love watching home improvement/renos before and after especially time-lapse! Awesome channel keep up the good work!
Great look! Question: Why didn't you just make the shiplap frame wide enough to house a piece of shiplap full length instead of having to cut every piece?
Inspector Gus is a real BALLBUSTER! But I have heard he's the best in the business. And for the record, you were looking a little sketchy from time to time so, well done Gus!
Man, you have a electrical mess! Is it allowed in your country to leave electrical wires everywhere in the attic? We always put them neatly together in the PVC conduits. In straight lines.
old retrofit homes have tons of junction boxes and mixed wiring. it is a nightmare; surprised more of them don't burn down tbh. generally, new home wiring is pretty neatly done and has few, if any, junction boxes, but we typically don't put wires in conduit in residential construction (usually only seen in commercial) however in some jurisdictions it is more common to run wire in metal conduit. This is more common in brick and mortar homes prone to hurricanes.
WOW!!!! Excellent work indeed!!!! I especially like your attention to detail and the clean work site that you maintain... (vacuuming all the time) Have you ever thought of writing a Novella.... your expressions have me cracking up most times... I absolutely love inspector Gus....
I think the fireplace would happen even more awesome if you would have put a electric fireplace insert in it wouldn't be that hard to run the wiring. I've had one for eight or nine years I love it they even make them make a popping sound like wood burning effects thing. Safer than any wood burning fireplace will ever be
Ben I want to commend you on this series! I inadvertently started at phase 3, I went back and am just starting p 2. Just one question for me; What is your measurement from the bottom of the mantel to the top of the firebox? I am in the research phase of going from a 61” fp surround to 79” to accommodate a bigger flat screen. My number one goal is to hang the new mantel as far down as I can get away with to pass inspection if I ever sell my home. How low can I get away with! It’s a gas non-vented (rarely used). Sidenote. I watched a dozen or so videos, you are far and away the most interesting to me. Do them all just like this one love the detail!
The measurement you asked for is about 21” but I don’t know if that conflicts with any specific code. We have yet to light our fireplace (and don’t ever plan to).
You could have used PL glue on each shiplap and a finish nailer instead of screws...to cut the time of filling and sanding. You could have used a 2 gang box for the top and bottom outlet...more cleaner looking...that attic is pretty bad...I would have a licensed electrician check that..just to be on the safe side ...but over all it looks good ...
@@escotiyaotl8869 do you mean to say it is stronger? That's debatable so long as you are nailing in to studs and that I don't foresee someone strength testing it with a crowbar
Ben: *covers the white drywall with planks and trim and planks and trim and trim and more trim* Me: bit excessive, but deffo going to look sick with the oil finish. Ben: *paints everything white* Me: ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ but y
Sorry but you are dangerous. Use a push stick when you use the saw and the metal box you install probably has sharp edges which could cut the wire and cause a short or fire. That attic looks like a good place for a fire. Nice job in the design.
It can't get any better, La Traviata AND a beautiful cat!
It is easy for the DIY and works awesome. Easy to use, lots of colors and choices.Couldn’t be happier with the purchase.
Love the music (La Traviata) and inspector Gus!

Varnish also works as a great knot sealer. I have used it for over 50 years.
I am binge watching your remodel here and it's fabulous! Kudos to you and your helpers.......you're doing amazing. Beautiful home!!

Great job! Inspector Gus is a rock star.
I love your cat! So freaking adorable!
Great Job. I watched the whole thing and that's rare for me.
This is a great product and it works well, put you have to lay on floor to see the starter and see if it is lit.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of your home improvements. You are awesome and a keeper!
Amazing job! Attention to detail goes a super long way. Admire your work!
Inspector...Gus! Love him! You do really great work!! Many blessings to come!!
This looks amazing!! Great job!!!

Gus knows when work is paw. Awesome work and looks stunning the cats whiskers.
Awesome work 👌
Wow! You are amazing! Your wife is one lucky woman!

Very talented. Great work

Mrs. Ben, you are a lucky woman.
Looks Great! Fantastic!
Wonderful job and patience! I have a similar inspector!
Awesome job man!
AMAZING job!!!!
Very nice, great job 👏🏽 .

Great video! Love to see the progress of the house :D
I was wondering where part 2 was. Great job!!! I love it!!
Very nice project!
Ben, while watching your fireplace remodel I noticed you need to redo the insulation in your attic.
Typical inspector, 😔. This looks just beautiful.. Great job!
You did an amazing job
This is amazing! Can’t wait for the next vid.
Great look! Question: Why didn't you just make the shiplap frame wide enough to house a piece of shiplap full length instead of having to cut every piece?
A Must...Always trim your boards!!! I LOVE my Clamps!! Frog tape is all I use!!!
Great job kiddo great head on your shoulders.
Beautiful job bro , congrats 🤘👏
I think u did a great job!
Ben tardif you should make a playlist of the house being completely renovated by you and your whole team
Great job. I'm not a big fan of the white wash. I prefer to paint the bricks white. Looks much better.
Your attic is going to catch fire !!!!
A good dose of ASMR at the end of video. Saw what you did there
Awesome work bro! Can’t wait for more vids.
Covered with paper and tape to protect the finish on the whitewash brick after you already had stepped on and put stuff on while building surround
I wasn’t to sure about the fire place until you painted it it looks fantastic are you going to do some trim around the kitchen fireplace
NEW SUBSCRIBER ALERT!!
wouldn't fit in my house but man I wish it could. You did a great job.
beautiful job, how the heck did you learn how to do all this alone?
Dude! This is amazing!!!!
You are amazing god bless you brother
Imagine if inspector guss disapproved!
I love that your a perfectionist more men should watch this video.....
Do those side small pieces of shiplap have to nail into a stud or are they just going into drywall because they’re so small?
Inspector Gus is a real BALLBUSTER! But I have heard he's the best in the business. And for the record, you were looking a little sketchy from time to time so, well done Gus!
Awesome video!!! Great work!!! Can you please tell me what color paint the walls are? Thanks!!!
Love it!
Very cool! Can I hire you to do MY fireplace? 😊 The cat is funny. 😂
What size boards were used to frame this out and what type of molding was use to add the finished look?
Hi. Your video was awesome! I found it very educational. I was just wondering what the color is on your walls? I love that it's light but not white!
yeesh you should remodel your attic

Where are planning on putting the TV that used to be in your living room?

Would you recommend your Ryobi Table Saw?
Came for the rebuild, subscribed for Inspector Gus. Great work!
It’s a good starter saw. It works well so I don’t need to upgrade, but I don’t plan on using this one forever
That looks amazing great job! Next project: wainscotting lol
Take the shiplap down and cut the holes out for the electric box
When its first painted it looks like a garagedoor. Those that open rolling up lol. Good job tho. I couldnt do it so perfectly 👍🌷
No se si entiende español pero te felicito tu esposa a de estar orgullosa de tu yo vivo en mexico y me encantan tus videos felisidades
Next item to remodel... the attic!

Coulda shoulda woulda, good grief. He does fantastic work and he does it his way because he is him. Get that?
Some construction adhesive would have cut down the need for all the screws.
you've demonstrated that you have a finish nail gun so why are you using screws?
I guess because it's way easier to take off something nailed than something screwed on.
@@escotiyaotl8869 do you mean to say it is stronger? That's debatable so long as you are nailing in to studs and that I don't foresee someone strength testing it with a crowbar
That's primed? :D

Me: ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ but y
I don’t see any reason as to why you had to use screws to secure the ship lap. Finish nails would be plenty strong enough.
I agree, was wondering the same thing.. And so many screws also. I’ve seen guys use less screws building a deck. But other than that nice job
Bit overkill on the screws...
Yea, he went a bit crazy.. I was surprised
8:19 wtf this mess
Yea bro that's got to be your next project
that has to be the next project holy moly
lmao
thats legit.
I bought plans from woodprix and I made it very fast.
Looks a little old not gonna lie, nice work though ( would recommend different brick, or maybe even stone)
Can I hire inspector Gus?
Screws for shiplap??....jeeeze...it doesn't weigh a ton. Light gauge nails will do just fine. Save that overkill for the kitchen.
The attic looks as if a messi is living there.
Sorry but you are dangerous. Use a push stick when you use the saw and the metal box you install probably has sharp edges which could cut the wire and cause a short or fire. That attic looks like a good place for a fire. Nice job in the design.
That mess of wires in your attic is a fire hazard!
Its been ten months since your last marble video... when are you going to get back to the two player pinball machine?
Soon I hope! Trust me I’m eager to get back to that too
100
