i don't understand why accesibility feature tracker costs 5 times more than tobii 5. disabled people are pushed to spend 1000 $, and "gamers" only 250$. my respect for this company decreased already.
From the correspondence I had with them they said it's a technical issue, to the point they completely decided to abandon the integration with windows eye control. Do I believe them that they happened to drop a feature while they have a product five time more expensive that happens to support that feature, and that's all just a big coincidence, well let just say I'm not a big believer in coincidences. If I had to guess it looks like one branch of the company was making a cheaper product that the other branch of the company was making, and that was eating from revenue, but what do I know. What I do know is that the end result Is that Tobii eye tracker 5 Is missing a feature present in its predecessor 4c making it a downgrade in that respect.
@@BiteSizeRandom I did see a thread on their forum where they specifically said they aren't doing much with mouse support to not compete with Dynavox (can look for a thread by Aleksey), which I think is a pretty bad attitude. If the Dynavox products aren't so much better that they can't justify the price on that aspect alone, it doesn't speak well. Even besides the normal windows integration (which I'm sure they did have some tech issues), it really isn't crazy complicated to build some software using their own API to move a mouse around. I don't think it should have to be up to third party people to do at least the basic support for something like that.
I want to like Tobii for gaming, but they require direct access to a game's source code in order to add eye tracker control to each game. their game hub has a lot of games I never heard of - most of which I'd probably never play. To top that off - they are rarely able to support new games to their gamehub. though for what its worth, for the very few games that the 4c does work that I did play - it worked amazingly. But I still don't think Tobii thought this one all the way through.
This video shows Eye Tracker 5 in conjunction with Windows Eye Control: ruclips.net/video/sqioybTNhBg/видео.html Edit: However, reading the comments from that video it says that Tobii announced: "Our internal testing has indicated that upcoming updates for the Eye Tracker 5, installed either manually or via Windows Update, will make the Windows Eye Control beta driver non-functional. This means that Eye Control will stop working for you. For now, the solution is to reinstall the Windows Eye Control beta driver that was supplied through email to you a while back. We are planning updates for the Eye Tracker 5 every third month which means that you will have to reinstall the driver each time so please keep the installer handy." So it seems it's not something that they have deliberately dropped support for, but rather that there has been some change to Windows that makes it incompatible. I wonder if that Windows update affects the Eye Tracker 4 as well.
I wonder if you or anyone else here has tried Precision Gaze Mouse with the Eye Tracker 5? It is open source and combines eye and head tracking. It honestly looks really slick from the sample video from a couple of years ago. At that time they recommended using a webcam for the head tracking part since it was more accurate than the eye tracker's head tracking, but I do know the ET5 is supposed to be more accurate for head tracking, so maybe it works ok just on its own now?
@@BiteSizeRandom the trouble is I don’t have an eye tracker yet. Trying to figure out if I should buy one just for mouse control before I actually order one. Though I guess I can just return it if it doesn’t work out…
great question, in my opinion, definitely not. it's not accurate as a mouse. it moves the mouse close to the area you're looking at, not to the exact point you were looking at. and it's a major difference, you'll still need to finetune with a mouse to the actual button...interface element...etc. you were looking at. it doesn't replace a mouse (not accurate enough), but it does reduce the general amount of mouse movements (large left to right screen movements) which is better than nothing, for me it was good enough to keep the device.
For a couple of years I've been using a 4c without a mouse/trackpad etc. Often it'll miss by a small amount, but I adjust the pointer using my keyboard number pad and an autohotkey script
and I also used autohotkey to remap the volume dial on my das keyboard for 2 way scrolling & zoom (with keyboard modifiers). i am also a programmer (inc. frontend/ui)
for me I bought it to relieve some strain from my hands, as I use a mouse too much sorry to hear it made you sad, if I had to rate it after using it for a while it still saves me some time in mouse movement but it could be significantly better.
can i do web surfing, office work by Tobii Eye Tracker 4c easily like i can do with a mouse ? i need to not use my right hand because i injured it (karpall tunnel) with repettive mouse movements. i am trying to find some other ways than using a mouse to work.
I have the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, and in my opinion it's not accurate enough, it could reduce the amount of mouse movements and clicks but it doesn't replace it
I would recommend "Enable Viacam". It is free software that allows you to control your mouse via head movements, and works very smoothly. You can easily toggle off the dwell-click function while you are typing so that it won't interrupt you, or disable the dwell-click entirely and use your regular mouse to control when you click. I did briefly try using both "Enable Viacam" and Tobii 5 together, which mean I could look somewhere to warp, and then adjust the mouse position more precisely with my head. It was fun at first, but it quickly got obnoxious and difficult to keep under control, so I stopped using the Tobii.
@@leyrua why it became obnoxious. Does it get human tired more quickly. As i understand continuesly small head movements may be tiring and damage process too i think.
@@serdar-ors it was just really hard to control both of them at the same time. It's relatively easy to keep your head movements under control, but it's really hard to keep your eyes from moving somewhere you don't want the mouse to go and ALSO stop moving your head.

Optikey might be a solution. It's designed for disabled people. You'll have full control for windows. My husband is very content with it. He has only eye movement and he is doing all his work stuff with.
@@serdar-ors He used it with a Tobii device. But the 5c Tracker was only a temporary thing before he got his new device. He is using now the PCEye Tracker and a Microsoft Surface Pro. The accuracy of the PCEye tracker is much better.
I can say one thing and the new releases of their software they somehow improved the accuracy of the mouse (For me I use Tobii to reduce the amount of times I need to move the mouse), unfortunately Tobii 5 Is still not identified as a eye tracking device when it comes to Windows eye tracking functionality.
@@BiteSizeRandom Well i wasted money on a Tobii 4C id not give Tobii any more for there 5 model as 4c did not do what it said on the tin for me its a shame Track ir could not have what you need for windows eye tracking as that software for gaming is spot on
