You're getting different colors because of the different metal ions. Potassium purple, sodium yellow, etc.

yes, thats why i tried using baking soda and barium nitrate. I wanted to see the fire become green and yellow but i didnt expect potassium nitrate to burn so purple.

@@ethanslab7670 potassium chlorate and perchlorate burn purple too, but a lot more aggressively

@@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 i can try making potassium chlorate soon but i think making perchlorate is going to be very difficult

@@ethanslab7670 perchlorate requires either platinized titanium or lead dioxide anodes. You can buy both on Ebay, but there are a lot of fake platinum ones. I got my platinized electrode on Amazon for 40 something dollars. Mixed metal oxide mmo electrodes or carbon can be used to make chlorates, but the carbon degrades as you do it and you have to filter it off. Mmo electrodes of various sizes are on Ebay and maybe Amazon. If you just want to make a couple hundred grams of chlorate, I'd recommend one of those little sanitizer generators that you plug into a phone charger and put in a bottle of water with salt. Those are tiny mmo electrodes. There's a bunch of videos here on RUclips about chlorates.

@@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 platinized anodes wont survive perchlorate unless some other chemical is added to protect the electrodes and lead dioxide anodes are very hard to find so i will completely avoid making perchlorates and use MMO anodes to make either sodium chlorate or potassium chlorate. I have a 12v 10a power supply but im worried that 12v is way too much for the electrodes so i need use my buck converter to control the voltage
