I agree with you, Bart, 100%. The Four Freshmen can take you way back to those times when yow just wanted to listen to a group of singers and musicians that could deliver a song and let you just sit back and soak it in.
you are absolutely right - messed up is right - I don't know how it happened and I've been around since the forties and a musician and I haven't got a clue although the decline started with Rock and Roll (although there was good Rock) but how we descended into the musical stew of rap hip hop and whatever is beyond me
This is the real deal. Everyone in this group studied music. Nowadays, with computers, samples, looping, autotune and almost automatic arrangements, anyone with an iota of a clue, can make "music". A lot of it is devoid of any soul. Add to that, the fact that record companies have forgotten what a volume control is for and continue to slam the radio with over compressed drivel. Today's music(commercial that is) seems to be dumbed down for the masses and the producers are afraid to take chances - or may not even have it in their repertoire:)
Boy, I love this song. And what a nice addition Sue makes. I used to listen to "The Four Freshmen" in the 50's and 60's. This song just calms me down. I listen to it several times a week. It wasn't meant for todays ears. It's for those of us that lived in a time when music was listened to, not words yelled. In my opinion.....
It IS meant for today ears too! But young men ears of today are not used to it anymore. Some of them have forgotten that music can heal. I'm pretty sure it will come back one day or another. Internet is evil BUT good too: You can re-discover lots of things from a more or less recent past. The four Freshmen, The Four seasons, les Doubles six ( produced by Quincy Jones in France), The beach boys... You name them. They'll never disappear
Loved the Four Freshman back then---and just recently discovered jazz vocalist Sue Raney on some old audio tapes of performances she did with a Dallas-Fort Worth TX area big band (Harvey Anderson Orchestra). How amazing it is to watch all the vocalists on this clip sing and blend so perfectly on only one microphone. What an amazing sound!
Wow. This last week i discovered Sue Raney. Ca'nt believe i missed her after all these years. Re-discovering The Four Freshmen, now here they are with Sue Raney. Simply amazing and beautiful!!
The FF live at Butler U. with Stan Kenton's Orch has one of the most compelling song "Please Walk Softly" gorgeous, unusual harmonies, perfect break up song
You did it again and again with all these gems that people overlook or don't even know they exist. How I love Sue Raney. For me she is up there with legends like Ella, Sarah and Carmen. Thanks for having all these wonders to share.
Sue Raney was a part of the LA SFV jazz supper scene back in the day & what a treat it was to catch Sue Raney in one of those intimate supper clubs like The Room Upstairs at "Le Cafe" on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks Ca
@mach37 These are the 4 " new Freshmen" found & worked incredibly hard by Bob Flanigan, the man who owns the name & all rights. In '96, he retired, but wanted to keep the goup going--ha she ever! He says it : this is the very best 4 Freshmen, ever--& I so agree. Wolfsky9
What a great combination or lyrics, presentation and instrumental background and solo. Sue Raney rocks with the 4F as if she was always along for he ride. So great to hear this music.
I'm a die hard 4 Freshmen fan from the '50s and I own most of their CDs. But I've always ignored these guys. But I'm really impressed with this rendition of "It Could Happen to You," one of my favorite songs fro their late song book.
I have most of what Sue Raney recorded including her great Doris Day tribute. The Four Freshmen have been a lifetime devotion for me and I have everything they did for Capitol and some after. The current configuration, by the way, sounds like the originals. The Freshmen still have a big college following. Sue, by the way, looks just like this. She has tended her looks carefully and wisely.
"Wow" is right! So very close! Moreover: so very true to the original. I own several lps and CD re-releases and compilations. If not for the images, would have thought it a live recording of Ross, Don, Bob and Ken.
I only discovered Sue Rainey about three years ago. Brad Chambers played one of her recordings on his Internet radio station, "Martini in the Morning." Wow! Search Sue Rainey - Club Date on RUclips if you've not heard that. Great jazz and super pianist.
@casch0101 Much of the difference is the backup orchestra in 1964. The vocals with both ensembles are the best. Technology has made the current group all the more special. I do enjoy Sue Raney sharing her part because she certainly adds an excellent sound that fills the cracks.
Sue Raney was always a great singer and still is. She's just a hair flat on a few notes - but blends so beautifully with the guys. I understand this a "live" performance and it's excusable if there might be a tiny flaw from anybody. Thanks. AAA +
In taking a second close look Sue Raney looks like my "crush girl" Liz Star .Liz & I made some youtube stuff. I sing Accustomed To Her Face - to her as Hollywood Jerry. Connecting these 2 girls certainly draws me into Sue Raney. I've seen Miss Raney's work a lot - what a singer. Love her with the Four Freshmen. Thanks, Jerry Wilson.
I've got a crush on Sue Raney - so I just stare at her like she's the last woman on earth. There maybe 3 Freshmen with her but all I see is her. Now that she's showing themshe's got a beautiful legs. This gave me even more to stare at. Miss Raney singslike a better Doris Day !
The fabulous Sue Raney has not had superior, jazz backing on her recordings. Needs a big band, Frank Capp, Bill Watrous, or a good trio, piano, behind her on recordings...
I agree with you, Bart, 100%. The Four Freshmen can take you way back to those times when yow just wanted to listen to a group of singers and musicians that could deliver a song and let you just sit back and soak it in.
The tender respect the Freshmen show Raney on this number is, like the song, from another era.
Sue Raney and the Freshmen, nothing better anywhere.
This music is AWESOME. It makes you wonder how today's music got so messed up. The words are not only beautiful but understandable.
Completely agree. Real music with melody and great words. Living in the past and loving it.
you are absolutely right - messed up is right - I don't know how it happened and I've been around since the forties and a musician and I haven't got a clue although the decline started with Rock and Roll (although there was good Rock) but how we descended into the musical stew of rap hip hop and whatever is beyond me

What a nice blend with Sue Raney. She's also beautiful.
I was privileged to have been at this performance. It is great to have a permanent record of it.
Boy, I love this song. And what a nice addition Sue makes. I used to listen to "The Four Freshmen" in the 50's and 60's. This song just calms me down. I listen to it several times a week. me too!
Bart Vertrees .
I do agree Bart now try Dinah Washingtons version
Bart Vertrees. Right on ... Bart.

The new group couldn't be any better. they are fantastic. I've been a fan since 1954
so please,respect my opinion.
wonderful ,what a great sound she brings to a great song and group, wish there was more of sue with the freshmen like old times
Rappers ... eat your hearts out.
Wow! She really sings fabulous! What a warm sound! Love Ernest from Holland.
When I caught Sue Raney in LA Jazz Supper Clubs, it was the Cat's Meow & usually for 3-Sets
I never get tired of listening to this guys. So unfair being so talented AND musical.

Sue Raney's last note with slight vibrato is the best part of this song.
Jim Griffin. Good ear ...Jim..
I just admire somebody who can sing harmony and at the same time play an instrument.
edex7. you've just described what the 4F's are all about.
The Four Freshmen (Brian Eichenberger, Bob Ferreira, Vince Jonson & Curtis Calderón) + Sue Raney = Sublime!
I am wearing this video out I have played it so much. Great song, great rendition.
Love this group & Sue Raney is a great addition
Beautifull!!!!! Sue Raney is one of the greats.
How absolutely gorgeous! Sue’s voice just shimmers above the male voices… magical
The three thumbs down really have no appreciation of what good music can be. What a shame
I was there that night and this was one of the highlights of the convention. Great memories of Group 22!!
Wow. This last week i discovered Sue Raney. Ca'nt believe i missed her after all these years. Re-discovering The Four Freshmen, now here they are with Sue Raney. Simply amazing and beautiful!!

The Raw & Passionate genius of Van Heusen & Burke is complimented by Sue Raney & The Four Freshmen
I was there! My wife and I saw them last weekend in Roseburg. Great show
You did it again and again with all these gems that people overlook or don't even know they exist.
How I love Sue Raney. For me she is up there with legends like Ella, Sarah and Carmen.
Thanks for having all these wonders to share.
Beautiful simply bellissimo!!!!
Ross Barbour RIP The originals are in heaven now.
Sue Raney was a part of the LA SFV jazz supper scene back in the day & what a treat it was to catch Sue Raney in one of those intimate supper clubs like The Room Upstairs at "Le Cafe" on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks Ca
AWESOME AS USUAL! THEY ALWAYS FIND THOSE TUNES THAT HAVE HARMONIC POTENTIAL. THEY PERFORM SO WELL... LOVE IT!
This lineup was fantastic!

Sue Raney .. ledgend .. beautiful blending
WoW --- Nice Collaboration!
Awesome, thanks Dan. Please keep them coming!
What they can do with a song is incredible.

Awesome flugel playing!
SUBLIME. Sooo lovely and elegant....just awesome.💕❤️💕☘
My era.
Great...props to the songwriters, Johnny Burke and Jimmy Van Husen, who wrote many great songs for Bing Crosby.
Yes, the song has a kind of serenity...
Beautiful trumpet playing.....
I wish I can sing with the this group of guys too haha
何度聞いても感動する。
Cool - this would be a dream come true for me to sing with the guys! Lovely!

So Great ! Yes !
Loved.....
Fabulous!!!
Pure joy
Sue Raney followed June Christy with the Kenton band back in the early 1960s.
Great sound
❤️❤️❤️
I thought no one could emulate the original freshmen but I was wrong. Excellent.
the trumpet man is a pain in the ass!! Sue stands out like the diamond she is

Lion with sun glasses.
yea, she is one of the finest... nancy wilson is up there as well though, in fact nancy wilson is the best vocalist ive ever heard
While I liked the Four Freshmen and I do love to hear Sue Raney (she melts my heart on Mancinis's "Dreamsville") but she adds nothing musically here.
TheBdd4. Every comment here is just the opposite..
i agree. they didn't give her any room to express herself.
Brain freeze at 1:01
M
Nice, the Four Freshmen were always a favorite, nice flugelhorn, but they don't really need Raney in the group, but it's a nice addition all the same.
Weird. All the original members are dead. What is this?
Russell Roesner. where have you been, Russ ?
Would have been better if the trumpeter had put a mute on his instrument.
The fabulous Sue Raney has not had superior, jazz backing on her recordings. Needs a big band, Frank Capp, Bill Watrous, or a good trio, piano, behind her on recordings...
Okay, but the Four Freshmen they ain't.
+tdeecy I agree I met 'the original group in about 1953 in san Francisco and followed them for years, most of us are HOOSIES.
Agree
