Pure information. No distracting music, no silly flashy sound fx or visual gimmicks, just pure, valuable information. THANK YOU!!! =)
Thanks, Henry. This is the only video I've found on the SmallRig Mini that covers adapter thread sizes comprehensively. So now I know my 82mm filters will thread into the adapters. Thanks again!
You are very welcome! I’m happy that the video helped! Thank you so much for your kind words and support!
I hope this matt box fits with my 82mm Nisi True Colour VND 😢
@@gingersnaps7186 Hey bro, are you using the SmallRig Mini Matte Box as well? does the Nisi True Color VND fits?
@@jacksonmokkyep, I’m using the nisi true colour vnd and it fits the mini Matt box! Was a relief 😅
Does 95mm filter fit?
Clear, honest and helpful overview. You manage to hit all the relevant points without getting bogged down by too many details or personal opinions. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video! It means a lot to us!
Great Video! I didn't know they had a solution for circular VNDs in matte boxes, I literally deleted all the square filters in my BH Photo Video cart after watching this
Wow, had to watch a few videos before I find someone that doesn't take a lot of the nuts & bolts knowledge for granted, thank you!
I'll say this... the worst investment I've ever made has been in the Tilta system.
From the start, it's been excruciatingly proprietary. You gotta buy everything tilta, damn near every time.. the designers must have all gotta A+++'s in school, because it takes a LOT of work to make this stuff NOT work with other manufacturers... insane.
Worst part, that makes the resale value zero, because it doesn't work well with other people's kits. I have the mirage, hate it. It's all marketing.. sure it accepts 4x5.65.. which are all $500 filters...
if you have a ton of 4x5.65 filters, odds are... you're already using high end gear, and you likely have a nice swing away system anyways with big ass anamorphics etc..
I don't have all the answers, but just wanted to share my experience. Great video.
I agree. I was very skeptical of smallrig at first but hey... here I am, with many different smallrig accessories. They are expensive (for beginners like me), but built like a tank. Everything just fits and is extremely well-thought-out. If you have the money, I'd say just go for it and if you ever change the camera, the only thing you have to buy again is just the camera cage and I guarantee it will last you (maybe not a life time) but decades.
Very tehnical and helpful video! Thanks for your detailed explanation!

Best comparison between these 2 matte boxes that I've seen on RUclips!! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video!
wasn’t sure which one to pick up before i saw this video. much appreciated!
Thank you! This is the most detail unboxing which I had found and help me solve the mystery of the 82 VND filter with step up ring! Bravo!
You covered every single questions I had. Thank you Henry!
I'm glad that you found the video helpful! Thank you so much for supporting the video!
Wow, I understood everything for a change, thank you.
Usually, people are talking way too fast as though they have just drunk a liter of expresso,
with your video Henry, it was kept a nice even tempo making the whole experience enjoyable to watch.
The usability of the Small Rig has been well thought out, they seemed to have covered just about everything
I believe that when I am ready I will purchase the small rig matte box over the Tilta, thanks to this video.
All the best

Amazing!
Thanks Henry, you really covered all the details and helpful informations.

Seriously, thank you so much for this video! I bought this with a 4x4 filter holder
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for supporting the video!
adjusting that VND/CPL inside the mattebox is a major oversight... guess they havent figured out what photo filter holders already have like Nisi and KF concept, where you can rotate filter from outside with a wheel.
Thanks Henry! That was a thorough comparison!

yoo, super helpful video, im using the same VND filter and still doubt about getting the smallrig mini matte box! thanks for the video, instant sub
The Tilta one does support circular filters, it does have a filter threat just like the smallrig one. And i've used it with numerous of filters (fixed and varible) and it all fit.
yes, both can support circular filters
They now have a 4x4 filter tray for this and the mini lite!
Wish the SmallRig was a little smaller like Tilta, but going SmallRig anyways. Great video review, thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video!
I know this video has some time, but you made a great video and thank you for the tip with the step ring.
My question would be how do you rotate the variable ND filter ring if you got rectangle filter at front?
Thanks for the great video and explaining, how everything works!

Hey Henry i just bumped up with your video today. I'm really glad you went in details with the SmallRig Mini MattBox, Bu tman next time fix the autofocus issue🤣Nice Video!

@@henrymediagroup It helped to go for the SmallRig one and directly avoid buying the Tilta. Also you saved me a lot of money, with the trick of StepUp Rings for one unified ND variable Filter! only for that you deserve a Coffee! and subscription👍😘

will the smallrig fit a nikon 180-600mm lens with a 95 mm diameter? although i think the outer lens is 105mm
Thank you very much for really breaking things down! I literally just got my matte box, for my Sony a6400
You are welcome! I'm happy that you found the video informative! Thank you so much for supporting the video!
@@henrymediagroup of course bro! A lot of tutorials don’t break things down. You’re is legit
I want this but 2 questions. 1. For outdoor indoor filming what would be the best way to use this setup?
2. My sigma 24-70 is 82mm and so is my freewell vnd. Does this box fit right over it?
same exact questions. So did you tried it? is the matte box fix with freewell vnd?
Thanks for clear info, keep it up !!
Thank you so much for supporting the video!
Thanks for that - nice and informative and solves lots of issues.
You are very welcome! We are happy that you found the video informative! Thank you so much for your kind words and support!
I really wish there was a mini matte box with a built in variable ND like the Tilta one
mi lente no tiene rosca en el final tiene una montura tipo bayoneta para el parasol que viene con el lente, como puedo sujetarlo?
What if your lens diameter is 95mm?
Useful review, thank you!
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for supporting the video!
The Tilta Matte Box has the same thread on the inside of the adapter ring. You can use you Variable ND the same way like the SmallRig here!
Yeah. While I haven't used ND filters and matte boxes, I was watching his previous comparison with the Smallrig (big) matte box. He did mention that the Tilta one could accommodate circular filters while the big smallrig matte box couldn't. I think he mixed up his information because of the previous comparison.
Quick question, can I use my Haida Nd filter with a handle in combination with the matte box?
Hello nice review❤ Is that smallrig 3196? Whats different with smallrig 3575 ?
I just bought the Tilta Mini and I sure wish I saw your video 1st...I'm returning and buying the Small Rig....Question, Can you please let us know which VND filter you are using? Brand name; Stops? Is there color shifting between stops? Thank you for your fantastic video..
We are using the PolarPro 82mm 2-5 stops variable ND filter, hope it helps! Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video!
omg we have the same rig blackmagic Pocket 4k and meike cinelens ! exept that i have 100% smallrig instead of tilta (its cheaper)
Thank you so much. About the nd filter things are, exactly what I wanted to know. (y)
I’m glad that the video helped! Thank you so much for supporting the video!
I don’t know if someone else said it, but the small rig mini matte box has a separate filter tray for a 4x4 square filter…. Waaay cheaper lol. It’s within reach. 😃
@@domenucakar I am actually purchasing it right now. I can let you know how it works out.
@@domenucakar Will do, and I will let you know the results.
@@hauntedwonderlandproductio1013 So howd it go?
While that's true, you have to buy a bunch of different stops of ND glass, instead of buying 1 single variable ND. Makes much more sense to just buy the single VND
looking to add a matte box to my Canon EOS RF 24mm 1.8 and RG 35mm 1.8RF lenses with 52mm thtreads. I can use a stepup ring to mount but was wondering it would be too much weight on the lens.
Fantastic video. You earned a new sub
Thank you so much for supporting the video and subscribing!
Excellent video thank you. I have a question: On the Tilta matte box, if you use a step up ring, and then add the adapter ring, will that give it enough extension for it to pop out further at the front of the matte box, for you to then be able to adjust the variable ND filter by hand? Hope this makes sense. I really do like the Tilta matte box and I'm looking for a hack to be able to use it with circular ND filters. I don't plan on buying any rectangular ND filter's as they are ridiculously expensive.. Any help/advise will be appreciated.
So if I understand correctly, on the SmallRig adapter rings the inner thread is actually not all 82mm size, but the same size as the smaller filter thread on the back?
So I can still use my 67mm variable ND on the 67mm adapter ring?
That is exactly what I am trying to understand. It seem to be that way, I think the adapter is only to make it fit into the matte box, but you keep the same thread size.
Pretty crazy I’m here watching your video cause i just purchased the smallrig Mattebox and i realized we both got the same tattoo (basquiat crown) in the same position of our arm… just mine is on my left arm.
It is so cool that you have the same matte box and tattoo! Thank you so much for your comment and support! You have made my day!
@@henrymediagroup very cool! Honestly I wasn’t even subscribed to you I just searched up the Mattebox… but not you got a new one, good job on the video btw.

great vid! noobie question, I have a Nisi VND lens filter I keep on my lens. am I able to attach this mattbox while the VND filter is still on? thank you!!
just got to the part of the video where you answered this (09:00) !
So what you are saying that i basically only need one nd filter for the rest of my life? (Even without the matt box on?)
Oh man thats nice
What’s that top handle you’re using?
i have a sigma 18-55mm! which matte box should i buy?
So far the lack of true PolarPro basecamp competitor isn't good, but happy with it anyway.
What is matte box and where it is use? I thinking that does I need one
Thank you very much for all details.

Hello, so does it comes with the 82mm to 95mm adapter ? To attach the Matte box into the 82mm filter? Or I have to buy it separately
Hey! Why did u stepped up the Mike lens to 82mm instead of installing the neccesarily adapter from the start?
Great video brother! 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for supporting the video!
@@henrymediagroup tour welcome bro
So the difference between the 3575 and the 3196 is that the 3196 comes with the additional package of step up rings?
Hi, can i use a 95mm ND filter with the small rig mini matte box or the Tilta mini matte box?
If you have some of step up and step down ring, you can use circular nd filters with tilta mini matte box.
Hi. Great video! Just trying to work out how I would make it work for 49mm thread on zeiss 55mm lens. Would you be able to attach a 49mm filter to the connecter and then use step up rings on the lens. Or would you get a bigger filter (I have a 77mm already) and then step up the lens from 49 to 77 on the lens? Any help appreciated as finding it all confusing
Thanks a lot! I was wondering about using 82mm filters and this helped a lot! Do you know the diffrence beteween the smallrig mini matte box and mini matte box lite?
If i have 82mm vnd and i am using 67mm lens with 3196 matte box
How is it possible?
Smallrih 67-95mm upring and 95 to 82mm with vnd and
Matte box will be attached to smallrih 67-95mm ??
I am confusing what size vnd i should buy because i dont have 82mm 2470
I have 77mm lens more
Can you use it with zoom lenses?
Do you think the vnd setup would work with a 95mm circular filter in there?
Can you stack let’s say 2 / 3 circular filters with the smallrig matte box?
Can I use this Matte box with my Nikon 200-500mm (95mm Filters)
Can you stack 3 rectangular filters with this system? You mention they stack - I guess there is a physical maximum - but the trays are made from aluminum, right?
Can I use the small rig matte box on my 95mm lens (Tokina 11-20 cine lens) ?
Hi, can you mount the Smallrig on a Tilta mount ring and vice versa? or are they proprietary? Thanks!
Nice video man! Can I mount this matte box on Rods?
I think you can use the bottom screw with an adaptor and mount on rods.
Great Video Dude.
For focus shoot manual then it doesn't shift like crazy on the hand to knob etc. Great review!
thanks awesome explanation

Unfortunately, they didn't consider designing a holder for this matte box to fit 100 x100 mm filters.
Do a little research, there is a filter tray extra for the 4x4 size (100 x100 mm)
Can you stack two 82mm circular filter and put the mattebox?
Did you find out? I have an 82mm mist and 82mm vnd (with outer 86mm) and i need this to work before i order.
@@HilleCine it did work with mine. I put a 77-82 step up on my lens then put add the mattebox, you can screw the 82mm vnd after adding the mattebox
It is sad that Smallrig it is not taking 4*4 like the older version
thanks for this video
You are welcome!
The Tilta Mirage uses 95mm circular filters NOT 85mm filters as stated in this video, plus you can mount one 4x5.65" filter directly in the box.
Way to much hassle to have over priced mini box.
I will stick to ones that fit on the rods.
Also if I could choose again I would not buy tilta due to the fact that your tied into using all thier over priced stuff. Ie like trying to fit the cage to a tripod when your using the power handle . The only way is to buy the tilta basceplate with Rod holder has the dove tail plate is a couple of mills out so as not to fit anything other than tilta products
No spare parts from SmallRig. Never. If you loose a special screw you have to buy the whole thing again.
Same with Tilta. So take good care of your baby ;)
Nice one !
Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video!
I just say Nitze .....
Will the smallrig box fit on the tiny rf 50mm 1.8 lens?
