    Jesus, THANK YOU!!! I am so tired of content creators saying the only point of a matte box is to look more professional and get more money from a client. No. NO! It has an actual function that’s so beneficial to light control and filtration.

      @BrittneyJanae  Год назад +1

      Yesss!! That’s the biggest function of a mattebox! Because it helped control light! Filtration of course if everyone’s fav but if you use it right both reason can really help with your shots!
      Thank you!!

    Love this video! I have both types, I typically use the screw on when I’m trying to be more low key! The box gets far more attention than I want when I’m just cruising around with my camera.

      Makes sense! I love my screw on for vlog work and social media content!

    Great information. It all comes down to personal preference and type of work. I’m wedding videographer, so I don’t have time to change filters plus I like to pack lite. So variable nd works best for me!

    • @BrittneyJanae
      @BrittneyJanae  Год назад +1

      Of course, I feel like every piece of gear comes down to type of work!! That’s why I have both!

      It mean it's not all personal preference. Carrying/transporting those box ND filters and the sheer cost of a mattebox setup + suite of filters (VS a large variable ND that can fit all your lenses) is probably the primary barrier for most users. I'm run and gun with a crew of two (who is running his own camera). I remember talking to a camera store guy who framed the convo the same way, then when we started talking price, it made the solution I was going with very clear, even setting the practical considerations aside.

    I love matte boxes! I was gifted 1 about a year ago and definitely prefer it over screw on filters. Plus it does make you look just a bit more professional, but I suppose that's debatable depending on what you're shooting.

      I mean they really are just more professional not even about the look lol. Which is why every film set has matte boxes. It just makes sense.

    A big con for using mattebox is for gimbal use in windy condition. There's some types of matebox where you have the possibility to put screw on filter onto the lens. Great if you're on a budget, or a run n gun shooter, or both lol

    • @BrittneyJanae
      @BrittneyJanae  Год назад +1

      Yep the screw on in the video is great for that situation.

    Have you ever thought it was weird that the compact matte boxes come without side flags? When I rented a matte box (2 stage) I found myself using side flags more often than the top one.
    By the way, what focal were you using for this video? Seems longer than usual. Looks good.

    • @BrittneyJanae
      @BrittneyJanae  Год назад +1

      It makes sense. The compact matte boxes are made to stay small and light.
      And it was the same that I usually use. I always forget my setup lol and since I don’t have RUclips space like these other RUclipsrs, I’m always tearing down and putting back up changing my shot

    I think your camera has a dead pixel. Pause at 9:19 when youre holding the filter and look the center of the filter. Not sure if its a dust

    I have a Smallrig matte box for my camera and I use screw on VND filters with it. I have wanted to use the matte box filters but as a run and gun person I feel like the screw on VND is more efficient (until I have to switch lenses).

    • @BrittneyJanae
      @BrittneyJanae  Год назад +1

      Yea that’s why I like matte boxes because you either have to have more than one VND or always make sure you have step up rings for all your lens diameters. I can also use my VND with my mattebox so that’s great

      @OurVoicesOurLives Год назад

      @@BrittneyJanae luckily my new set of lenses all have 77mm filter threads but I feel like using the square filters in the matte box would be quicker in some ways when I have to swap lenses. But also may not be as quick in other ways if I have to swap out filter trays or stack filter trays to get the right amount. So many things to consider.

      Yea they are good for quick shoots and super run and gun but honestly a mattebox works for more controlled environments and it’s worth it!
