The ZHIYUN MOLUS X100 has 100W and has a bowens adapter. Its very similar and very nice and has changeable batteries, so you can by a second one to change them on set quickly.
Thanks for your help brother, also didn't realize when we were filming outside that if we would have connected it to external power it would have been even more powerful ha!
There is a video at a conference when they launched it, they called it a mini Bowens mount and said that they are making an adapter to bowens so it fits in to people’s workflow.
I bought the RC 60B as soon as it was released. It is an insane light. Very powerful, bi-color, compact and easy to set up. It's good to see you, one of the content creators I respect, give this light the props it deserves. (EDIT: When I have it set up just off camera to light me, I have it set at 3% power.)
Not bad but definitely prefer Amaran 60x S because of the sidus link app control when necessary. It has bowens mount built in and DC power input which works a lot easier with v-mount to dc cables.
Nice review! I've got some lights from another manufacturer and initially thought their remote control system would be a gimmick, but as a solo shooter the ability to quickly adjust all lights, from my seat, at set-up and during a long-form interview is a huge benefit. At this point, I'd only buy into a light manufacturer that had robust remote capability. Of course, that limits choices going forward, so choose the system wisely!
Agreed, when you're solo operating and you need to make minimal changes and compare 2 different light intensities, it's really hard to see it when you have to physically go change the light vs watching it on the monitor and making that adjustment on the fly.
For power, you can also use a 60w power bank or higher. Recommend the 100w so you're not running at 100%. More mah more time. Use the mount adapter that attaches to the back. Little more compact. Keep in mind, cable power matters also.
1:50 I was gonna say, "forget about the light, can we talk about how amazing this composition is?" Then I saw that RED monitor😂and realized I'm watching someone that knows what their doing.

THANKYOU so much for reviewing in an uncontrolled outdoors location! It's where we end up most shoots, but reviews are always in a dark, controlled room. boooo
I like what Smallrig is doing, currently don't need a 60b, but hopefully Smallrig makes a 300 or 500 watts with amazing photometrics and size as the 60b.
Thanks for this Armando. I’ve been looking at getting a set of 2 compact lights that can easily be thrown in small traveling kit. This helped me know how well they can perform in an outdoor setting if I’m in a pinch. I feel that these will pair really nicely with a 300w for a 3 point lighting setup indoors, which would be my other use case. Thanks!
The RC 60B has potential, SmallRig just has to get that bluetooth app squared away, there are over 600 pre-orders that do not mind the missing app functionality however. Thanks for the review
Thanks for the review. This light is so legit. I'm so tempted to get one of those. The fact that this thing is so small and performs so well is honestly crazy.
At the moment I will stick to my godox ml60 setup but I wonder if people are replacing their ml setups for these new type of compact lights and why its worth the investment? Shoot!
Might want to check out the Neewer MS60, super small, all the same features except it has wifi, comes with Bowens adapter, not battery powered but you can use external battery power with NP-750 or 970 batts and you talked about using external power anyway so basically the same thing and more affordable. I bought 2 and love them.
I love the built in battery on the Smallrig to me that’s clutch! Looked into the Newer you mentioned and at $150 plus batteries it puts you at $200 if not more. If I want to spend less I’d rather get the Aputure Amaran 60D. Sure, its not bi-color but 90% I need a daylight source anyway and you can hook a v-mount if you want
@mondobytes to be fair you currently can get an MS60B for $134, many videographers (or photographers for that matter) usually already have NP-750s or 970 batteries because of how universal they are, it's more affordable at even $150 than the Aputure Amaran 60D at $169 and like you said the Amaran isn't even bi-color, so I'm curious about the logic there but if it's just a general personal preference than understood, to each their own.
@@photoloco The biggest reason is Sidus link, if you've ever used any Aputure lights, Sidus link is fantastic, that alone I'd pick the Aputure over the MS60B. And that's the thing, carrying NP batteries is not attractive to me, in fact I stopped using those batteries years ago. If I'm going to carry any batteries it's going to be V-mount period which the Aputure lights can use.
@@mondobytes Have you heard about Colbor lights? Their CL60R, CL100X lights are affordable with good quality. It has a unique NATO rail design, and can be modular and stackable! V-mount batteries are available with a VM2 adapter by sliding onto the NATO rail, pretty portable.
Lol! you even opened it to see inside! Man, I need one of those tripods! Impressive! Thanks, Armando. Hey, merry Xmas for you and the family and all the best for 2024!
First off great video! The light does seem pretty amazing for on the go purposes quick shoots and accessibility. However, for $180-$200 idk how I feel about that. As you stated, soooo many companies are creating new products every day With more affordable options and have App access for usability through our phones. I get that the fact you don’t need a chord is amazing for on the go but charging a premium due to that doesn’t seem that great. Overall great product and I can see creators using this but definitely keep an eye out for other products that may fit the needs you may need for your shoot.
I use the Amaran 60d a lot, but I like the idea of charging the light itself instead of using batteries. However, not having a bowens mount is a no go for me.
My Amaran 60d (I use gels) can be powered with 2 NP-F batteries on the battery adapter that is included with the light, and I can also plug it into the wall for long shoots. The Smallrig light has no option for plugging it into a wall outlet. For this reason I would prefer the Amaran 60d. Also, not just a knock on Smallrig because all manufacturers of these really small lights do this, but NOBODY would use such a small soft box. These things only became a thing when the tiny powerful lights hit the market. The size of the diffusion is TOO SMALL to give the look we use soft boxes for. They need to have a much larger surface area. It is like using a 400 pound jack to lift your 1 1/2 ton car. It's looks like a jack, but it can't do the job.
Nice video, packed with creative lighting ideas. But for those considering buying this light, I wanted to add that the light is extremely noisy. Something that might be important depending on the use you are gonna give it.
No bowens is kind a turnoff for me. The Zhiyun Molus is smaller, just as powerful and has a bownes adapter so I can use the modifiers I currently have.
Smallrig did say they're supposed to have an app for it. But I haven't seen anything else about it since the light came out. But there are videos I've seen from smallrig that an app will come. Let's hope it does. They also said they're supposed to have a mini Bowens to Bowens Mount adaptor, but we will see.
Nice review. Looks like a solid piece of kit. But no app control kills it for me. Plus I wish one of the companies making these lights would come up with some type of Fresnel attachment.
wait until you see the Zhiyun M20c, M40, and G200. The G200 is most impressive since the actual unit is so tiny and light yet it can run a full-size Aputure Light Dome iii with 300 watts of output.
You don't need to attach a battery to it, I was just demonstrating that if you did use a battery you can extend the life of the internal battery even more.
The modifier issues and no app support is much bigger than you stated. Lights need modifiers of substance to be mobile or what’s the point. I would love this light in my small studio but climbing over and around stuff to adjust power or Kelvin wouldn’t be good. I will wait until they make a bowen’s version or buy something else as someone will come out with something if it’s not already there. Although not as powerful, my Rotolight covers most bases where a modifier is not needed run and gun. Shame and great video
Lack of Bowens mount is a red flag to me. I prefer Amaran COB60d - which is a little bigger BUT has an external battery mount Bluetooth and app support
@@jakubpolkowski I don’t own one but I have friends who own both and they’ve told me Smallrig is much smaller and brighter. My friend Cam Mackey might be making a video soon
