    If the edges start to melt at 400 degrees of indirect heat, then I doubt that's really a reliable structural firefighting helmet. It seems like it might work as an EMS helmet for MVAs and fire standbys and such, but I wouldn't take that into a fire. It'd be interesting to test the NFPA requirements for EMS helmets.
    You could also bring it to an actual fire training tower and throw it in the building while there's live fire inside and see how it does.

    Another great video and loved when you cranked up the grill. It is a very interesting piece. If you do more video testing of it maybe include direct torch heat to it and then the eye shield. Also would be interested in seeing you place it on the ground and drop a cement block on it from the roof to see falling debris impact. Maybe that should be a selling point, it can be custom fitted to each person during first use. As the material softens, you can adjust to better fit. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing. I picked one of these up to use as a backup to my Bullard wildland helmets. It is a royal pain in the arse when you get to the station and your helmet went out on the first or second brush unit and you still have to respond with a helmet. I used this on sevveral brush fires and then a major forest fire where it cooked 12-16 hours a day for my 14 day rotation and the helmet did what it said it would do. On my third rotation we were in deep woods and a branch came down caught me in the helmet and shoulder. The shield was not damaged at all and my safety glasses was not damaged. NEVER trust just one line of protection for your eyes. Always wear a pair of safety glasses or goggles under the helmet eye protection, your sight counts on it, I know guys who wear the glasses,a set of light weight goggles and then the helmet eye protection.
    Anyway the helmet and shield did what it was supposed to do. I did break my collar bone and arm in 2 places but my head was protected. Not sure if I would do a major interion fire with it but wildland you should be ok. For the price and after my recovery I purchased 4 more of them and now have one on each brush truck,in one tanker and the one that saved my head with me in my truck. My Bullards are nice but for the price they are great as a backup.

      Stahlhelme are explicitly unfit for firefighting use as stated by all German regulatory bodies. They are conductive to heat and electricity, their shock absorption is garbage, they have no neck or ear protection, they are not designed or tested to withstand heat, etc. etc. Stahlhelme are to protect from debris and pistol fire only. They are combat helmets. Not bike helmets, not fire helmets, not climbing helmets.

Indeed, those are quite cheap yet well-tested and proven.

Rosenbauer, a austrian supplier for fire trucks and equipment, brought their first own helmet design to the market in 1992, the "Heros". Since 2015 the Heros titan, the much more modern third generation, is on the market.

    I have no idea what kind of company have build this. The helmet form was one of the first modern looking helmets from Rosenbaur (Austria) which was called Heros.
    The form is the same but it is different in case of the the protection foam in the helmet, to change size of the helmet the original has a setting wheel that on the outside of the helmet. If you looking at google searching for Rosenbaur Heros Helm you will find pictures how the real helmet was looking.
    It was the end of the 1990/beginning 2000 where they have done a lot of tests. The found out that this kind of helmet (Polyamid/thermoplastic) had a problem with big heat in structual fires or training buildings. The inner helmet began to disintegrate. Some near misses were noticed.
    Other helmets have the same problem so Europe react with a new order in 2008. All helmets produced in Europe uses from that point Fiberglas ore something comparable.
    I think this one is a rebuilt and not produced in Europe.
    Sorry - my English isn't the best. But I thought I have to clarify that we are using other helmets in Europe or Germany (I am a former firefighter who didn't lost interest in fire fighting).

      @@NotfallsRene their newer version is still in use btw, made of the same material, just slightly different shape since the older ones had a bit of a nissue with getting cought on things so i doubt that they would emediately fail the test, given how high german standards are elsewhere

    • @yowtfputthemaskbackon9202
      @yowtfputthemaskbackon9202 Год назад

      and do keep in mind, "newer version" means the one they came up with in 1943. the older one, the one im curious about was officially approved for use as a firefighter helmet in 1934, but already around and in use by 1929. so these are pretty old helmets, but they do seem to at least hold up to german tests so as said, id be curious to see how the perform in american ones. one of the modernised ones, of course, i dont doubt that an original and unchanged one would at best struggle.

    The $26 fire helmet looks like it's a cheap Chinese copy. Like the yellow fire helmet, the People's Liberation Army (military arm of the Chinese Communist Party that is often called the Chinese military) combat helmet is a cheaply made copy of the US/NATO Kevlar combat helmet. I would not trust either for head safety.

    Usa fire fighting is al about traditions, the leather helmet is the same as 50 years ago. If you look at the European style helmets, with quick mask connect we have improved fire fighters safety amd comfort, if you compair them with the helmets used in the 70's.
