Im wanting to get into hema, I love the long sword, but are there rules to having to 2 hand the sword at all times? Or are there scenarios where you might one hand?
I don't know of any tournament that does not allow one-handing a longsword, but it is reasonably common for one-handed actions to score less than two-handed. Many historical sources discuss and recommend one-handed actions. Typically these will be either: - grappling, where one hand instead is controlling the other fencer with a grip on their sword or person - cuts or thrusts delivered with one hand, often the back hand, to gain extra range One handed attacks can be useful, but are risky as if you are parried it can take a relatively long time to recover control of your sword, making you vulnerable.
Keep it up! Videos like these are great to watch!
nice sparring!
