Andre the Giant was a very famous wrestler in the 80s. He was a Legend with a genuine good heart. he struggled alot with pain but never showed it and always gave his fans time. he was a true giant with a heart of gold.
He also drank so much during one of the pre-production meetings at a hotel that he fell asleep on the floor in the middle of the hotel reception and no-one could move him. So they just put a cordon around him until he woke up.

Arnold (Terminator)has a great story about one time they met... Apparently Andre put Arnold up on a shelf to prevent him from picking up the tab at the restaurant...
When I was in high school I was a nanny over the summer for a boy and a girl. The boy was around the age of the boy in the story and he did NOT want to watch this with me and his sister. I told him to give it ten minutes then he could stop if he wanted. The entire first scene with the grandson and grandpa, the boy I was watching kept looking at me like “this is a trick somehow” because he had been saying the EXACT SAME THING.
He watched the whole movie with us.
Often do this with my little brothers. Ask them to watch the first 10 minutes and then they can dip if they want. Usually they'll watch the whole thing of whatever movie I wanted to share.

My friends in college we're talking about watching this for their couple's movie night and our other friend immediately started making fun of Mick for letting his girlfriend talk him into something so obviously ridiculous. We all immediately realized he'd never seen it and sat down to watch it then and there. We ended up getting him the movie poster for Christmas because he loved it so much 😆

It doesn't have to be a great movie for that to happen. I walked in at the beginning of Kung Pao: Enter the Fist and I stood behind the couch for two hours waiting for it to stop getting worst, and it didn't.
I love the fact that every woman reactor gets frustrated with Buttercup when she doesn’t help Wesley in the Fire Swamp.

That has frustrated me since I was a kid. Watching the first time at age 6 I was screaming HIT IT WITH THE STICK!!!
Her just standing there uselessly has always been my one big problem with this movie. In every other respect, it’s perfect!
@@natalieann80too be fair this movie is a parody of the fantasy romance genre. It's just so damn good that people don't realize this. Every part of the movie takes a trope of the genre and plays it up to 11 to mock it. Unfortunately the cast and script writers were to damn good at there jobs.

My sisters and I do this! Saw this movie when it came out on VHS when I was around 6 or so. Now when I go back home to visit, when it's time to leave they say that 😁

my favorite part of this movie is Andre the Giant, the actor who played Fezzick later remarked that making this movie was best part of his life because everyone treated him as just another actor and not just some massive freak.
He also kept the shoes! He said they were the best shoes he had in his life, because they were made specifically for him rather than trying to find one off the shelf
"He looks like the same actor in Men in Tights." That is the same actor. Mel Brooks (Men in Tights director) cast Carey Elwes based on his acting in THIS movie.

At 41:43, when Inigo tells Reuben that he wants his father back; the power of this line comes from the actor, Mandy Patinkin, having recently lost his father to cancer. He put all of his anger and sorrow about the death of his father into that line.
My sister-in-law loves this movie. When she got married, I got the pastor to start the ceremony by saying "Mawage" like the impressive clergyman. Everyone who knew the movie, especially her, loved it.
My hobby is writing fanfiction, and following one chapter that was spent entirely at a wedding, one of my readers commented, "Mawage is what bwings us togevvah today!"
THE SWORD FIGHT Between Roberts and Inigo was actually performed by the Actors! They Studied Fencing for three months straight for this fight. The Only time Stuntmen were used was the Acrobatic "Flippies".
When Inigo fights Rugen, you might notice that every Cut he gave the Count was exactly the same wounds Rugen had gave him... right down to the cuts on the cheeks.
Apparently, the actors were so good at the sword fight, that when they showed it to Reiner behind the scenes, it was so lightning fast that it was too quick to use in the movie. They added the ranging terrain and acrobatics to pad it for filming.
@@nthdgree5078 yes, carey elwes talks about this in his book 'as you wish' -- they had to work to slow the fight down considerably in order for the fight to register properly to the filmmakers. SO so so interesting!
@@emilybarner3440 makes sense, given that film fighting is a whole art form, made to keep.actors safe while looking right on camera, that something like sword fighting would also need some tweaking

@@Frankiigiithey don’t make any good movies anymore, it’s so rare. I think about some of the far garbage original films on syfy from like 10 years ago and realize they’d do pretty decent in todays theatres cause the rest of the films are that bad. And what happened to the writing!

@@stephenmiller2544 They are, I used to comment in a way that was intentionally assisting for such things but I think they're quite able to do so naturally more than ever, I expect in some years from now they'll be incredibly witty and sharp by any ranking standard.

@Catherine.Dorian. totally, they obviously are educated, and I love seeing the similarities that break learned cultural boundaries. like when they don't know if it's OK to laugh or not, or Chi will have like this epiphany that breaks down every aspect of the character, but then she'll be like, "oh I forgot what I was trying to say." and they move on. I like a lot of reaction channels but these guys are really just so authentic...like as far as reaction channels go. I hope they become super successful.
No CGI necessary. Just a great story with a perfect balance of humor and adventure.
Some of the practical effects and such even give it a charming sort of stage play feel, which probably would have been lost with CGI. I love that the movie deliberately doesn’t look completely real at times.
The rodent of unusual (?) size was definitely a stunt guy crawling around in a raggedy fur suit. He was great! Much better than CGI.
This is indeed one of the most quotable movies of all time. You can't say inconceivable without thinking of this. Plus the sword fight between Westley and Inigo is one of the best ever.
Certainly one of them. They have another highly quotable Young Frankenstein in queue as well.

When they made the sword fight, their intention was to make a duel so well that it would look real to actual fencers.

@@nthdgree5078 Pedantic rant incoming: The fight choreographer knew that was unachievable but did include some real techniques and references to period fencing manuals. Bob Anderson also choreographed LOTR trilogy, Star Wars lightsaber fights, and decades earlier taught Errol Flynn stage combat. None of this generally looks anything close to real sword fighting of any kind, sport, combat or otherwise but are rather great examples of Stage Combat! (Sword fighting made too look good for a production) Period Shakespearean actors also did much the same. Edit: some grammar. prob missed more 😅
The Princes Bride is considered a Flawless movie. It might not be the 'best' movie ever, but it is absolutly without flaws of any kind. It is a cultural touchstone of anyone who grew up in the 90's.
It is considered so good that when someone proposed to do a remake the only answer was on the line of "are you crazy or something?"

I had the honor of officiating my sisters wedding, and she wanted me to throw as much geek culture in it as possible. This was our families favorite movie growing up, we quote it all the time. I literally led the opening speech with a MINUTE of that!! Watching the gathered attendants either laughing their a$$es off because they got it, or the confused faces because they didn't was absolutely awesome!!!
That has long been my Dad's favorite part of the movie, as he is a pastor and has officiated many weddings.

The priest, or as he's credited, The Impressive Clergyman, was played by a very well known character actor of the time by the name of Peter Cook. He's an exceptional actor, and has a distinctive and very distinguished voice, with an elegant English accent. When he started with 'Mawwidge.' Everyone in the theater lost it! It truly is a very beautiful and fun movie!
When a Spaniard swears on his passed family, I would trust him thru hell and back.

It’s never gets old
It never gets old
The amazing part of making this movie was the fact that (for one reason or another) they had to do a "pick up" (quick re-shoot) of Peter Faulk (Grandfather) doing the last line of "As you wish". He did it with ONLY the director, ONE camera operator and ONE sound tech on set... AFTER having to put it back together again.
And yet, despite having NOBODY to work off of, NOBODY to interact with to get him in the right head-space needed to do the line..... he NAILS it by doing the perfect grandfather saying "I love you" to a grandchild IN ONE TAKE. The director was so amazed by the performance that he KNEW he had a "golden moment of film", one that holds up over the years and has various generations just melting with love/memories of grandparents around the world.
The Princess Bride didn't do very well when it came out in theaters, just breaking even for the movie studio. MGM's marketing department couldn't figure out how to advertise the movie: was it a romance (to market to women - but it's too focused on the male characters) or a medieval adventure (to market to men - but it's too funny and romantic) or a comedy (to market to adults - but it's too "clean") or a family movie (to market to kids and their parents - but it's too scary, a lot of people get stabbed, and it's too focused on "the kissing stuff")? Instead of figuring out a way to say "yes" and market it to ALL the potential audiences - they mostly focused on selling it as a family film with the commercials focused on the frame story with boy and the grandpa (but not the actual story of the movie).
Fortunately for the Princess Bride, the mid-1980s saw the rise of a new generation of cheap VHS players and people (like me) discovered the movie when the few folks who saw it in theaters started playing it for their friends in college dorms (how I first saw it back then) or renting it at these new-fangled video rental stores.
Now it's up there with movies like Ghostbusters and Terminator as one of the most classic (and definitely most quotable) of all the 80's movies.
I think they should have used the grandfather's description of the book y'know, fighting, fencing, torture, etc., quickly flashing a second or two of an example of each as they went through the list to sort of show what the flavour of the movie will be like.
I saw it three times in the theater by myself, in nearly empty theaters and talked it up, but could get no one to come with me. But after it was out on VHS I would rent it and trick family and friends into watching it. That way I programmed my very own in person reaction channel before that was a thing. Everyone I ever shared it with loved it.
So it's like the 80s version of Napoleon Dynamite.

My children were very young when this came out. For years, everyone in the family would make quotes from the movie throughout the day. When my children's mother would ask me for something I would always reply, "As you wish". And when I would leave for work in the morning, she would always yell after me, "have fun storming the castle"! And at any random time, any one of my kids might yell out, "anybody want a peanut?"

I have personally taken his advice about never getting involved in a land war in Asia, though, and that has worked out very well for me so far.
@Stogie2112 , and he almost solves the puzzle. He establishes that he can't drink from one in front of him or from the other, and then he drinks from one at random.
@@matthewkreps3352 .... Vizzini picked a cup at random, but he didn't come close to solving the puzzle. He had no way of knowing anything about the two cups. Westley gave him no information at all.
Three possible scenarios: 1) Neither cup had the poison, 2) only one cup had the poison and 3) both cups had the poison. Vizzini had no way of knowing which scenario was the correct one.
The girl in the middle is so full of light, seeing her so happy, ignites a warm fire in the best room of my heart ❤
Tien did seem to have a wonderful time on this one. So fun to watch.
Miracle Max and his wife (Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, respectively) were actually quite young in this film. Their performance is both a testament to their acting abilities and to the magic of true hollywood aging prosthetics.
Billy and Andre became such good friends that Billy Crystal actually wrote and did a movie called My Giant because it was inspired by Andre and his friendship

@vixenwinters6375 sadly the movie flopped because it was actually written with the intent of Andre to be the giant but he passed before that could happen
When the six fingered man (Christopher Guest) knocks Westley out, he actually did and the actor was concussed.
Miracle Max’s dialogue was mostly improvised and it was almost impossible for Westley’s character to not laugh through the scene. I think I heard he cracked some ribs trying to keep from laughing
Mandy Patinkin bruised a rib keeping a straight face. Cary Elwes had to be replaced by a dummy on the table because he couldn't for the life of him convincingly play dead during that scene.
The giant Fezzik was played by Andre Roussimoff, aka Andre The Giant, a Professional Wrestler, originally from France. He had a long career, over 20 years, but he had a disease that caused him to continue to grow throughout his whole life. He was in his late 30's when he made, "The Princess Bride", his only movie, and he passed a few years later.
He was also in Conan the Destroyer as Dagoth, but he's in a monster suit and you don't see his face.
André was in so much pain, making this movie. His size and the years in the WWF took their toll on his body. :(
they even had to fake the moment where he catches Robyn Wright at the end; his back actually couldn't even take holding her weight in his arms.
But from what I remember he had a great time. He wasn't judged or used just because of his size, like in his wrestling career or when walking down the street, but was treated with respect like any other member of the cast

He still didn’t let that stop him from giving us that big, warm smile of his. Such an extraordinary man, and greatly missed.
He loved this movie. Lanny Poffo mentioned _(in interviews hear on RUclips)_ how he'd invite him and anyone willing, to watch it repeatedly in his hotel room, since he had a VHS of it before theaters. Every time, he insisted on him ordering anything he wanted from the menu, just to have him sit and watch it with him.
He was especially proud of it. He'd probably get endless entertainment from _reaction_ videos to it..
The reason Count Rugen's dagger didn’t kill Inigo is because Inigo kissed the pill from Miracle Max, for luck, before he gave it to Westley and that touch of his lips on the pill was enough to protect Inigo.
I made that up but it fits the facts of the movie. 😊
I wish this was true and I don't wish to be the bringer of disappointment... but miracle Max said it was coated with chocolate so it would go down easier.

If I remember correctly, the father of the actor who played Inigo Montoya died of cancer. When he delivered the line "I want m father back you son of a bitch" he pretended he was talking to the cancer.
True. Immediately after the director called 'cut' he turned away from everyone on set and tried really hard not to lose it. It's a stories told by Mandy Patenkin (the actor of Inigo) and a couple others on set a few times over the years.
The Princess Bride is a classic. It has amazing actors like Cary Elwes to Andre The Giant.
Andre The Giant was someone that you wouldn’t believe is real unless you saw him.
That man is HUGE.

I love how there is so much crossover with Rob Reiner and Mel Brooks. Not surprising, considering that Rob's father, the late Carl Reiner, was Mel Brooks best friend and creative partner for over 50 years.
... and as he states in the movie "I can even speak with a British accent."
Prince Humperdink was the inspiration for the character of Lord Farquad, in "Shrek".
Who was, in turn, the inspiration for Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. The live-action social justice remake Lady Farquad.

Fun fact, the actor who plays Inigo Montoya, Mandy Patinkin, is an accomplished Broadway star. He's most famous for playing Che in Evita and George Seurat/George's great grandson in Sunday in the Park With George (you can find the proshot on RUclips i believe)
Fun fact: a drunk man once slapped Andre the Giant at a bar. Andre got up and the man ran to his car (VW Beetle). Andre rolled the car on its roof.
I wonder what the drunk guy’s problem was? Was he frustrated that he couldn’t find a dragon’s tail to pull, so trying to bully a giant was the next best idea?
Apparently it was a group of college kids who decided to mess with Andre by throwing beer cans at him in the bar. The third one made Andre get up. The boys bolted to their car, but as soon as the were starting the car, Andre arrived in time to flip it completely upside down. Cops came and arrested the boys for messing with Andre.

This movie is such a classic and I have to show it to anyone who says they’ve never seen it.

You all yelling at Buttercup to grab the sword during the ROUS scene cracked me up, because that was my #1 gripe when I was a kid! "Girl, do SOMETHING!" But otherwise loved this, and still do.

My favourite story about this is while they were filming Andre the Giant let loose a full on sixteen second fart that silenced the set. The director asked Andre, "are you all right?" and Andre replied, "I am now, boss!" 🤣
This was a childhood favorite movie of mine. Still love it with my whole heart. On my third date with her, the woman who became my wife asked if I would watch it with her, since it was one of her favorite movies. I'd already felt she was the one for me, but this sealed the deal. We've been happily married 25 years. 🥰
Andre (The Giant) was a famous wrestler from France who EVERYONE in the wrestling industry felt that he had made a horrible mistake making this movie because it would make him look like a fool and have a negative impact on his legacy as a wrestler.
Instead, because the character was SO MUCH like Andre BEHIND THE SCENES of wrestling, it actually became one of his most impressive things to do because it gave generations of "wrestling fans" a NEW appreciation for Andre the human being and not "just the wrestler". In fact, Andre was so in love with the movie (and his performance) that the WWF (wrestling organization at the time before changing the name to WWE) actually had an agreement with airplane companies to show the movie on their flights with wrestlers, that if they DID NOT show the movie, they would lose their contracts of chartered flights with the WWF until they DID start to show the movie on their OTHER (commercial) flights for X-number of days.
One of the greatest movies ever made. I'm so happy you ladies have discovered it for yourselves.

One of the most beloved movies of a certain generation's childhood. Welcome to a life of quoting lines from "The Princess Bride" - there's no turning back now. Your reactions were excellent, and they made me remember the first time I saw this movie and felt the same wonder ... not only because it's a fun fairy tale, but for all the allegories hidden within: friendship, perseverance, loyalty, and most importantly - love. A brilliant movie - thank you for sharing your reaction.
The idea that these three young ladies would not like 'The Princess Bride' is Inconceivable!
When the actress who plays Buttercup first met Andre, the giant, she screamed and ran out of the room. Her mind just wasn't prepared for someone so big, and he shocked her. She was so embarrassed, because Andre was a sweet guy, and spent the rest of the filming being nice to him.
do not blame her he looked intimidating, yet he was the most humble teddy bear ever.
It was not the princess (Robin Wright) who screamed it was the CHILDREN of man who played the prince!
When Carry Elwes and Mandy Potemkin fenced, they were actually fencing. With every scene they weren't in, they were taken to practice. The book "As You Wish" is written by Carry Elwes about the filming of the movie. It is a great reed and if you get the audio book it is narrated by Carry and others who worked on or in the movie.
Oh, _duel_ him left-handed! Watched this for years without subtitles and always thought Inigo said "I'm going to _do_ him left-handed". The things you learn...
There is actually a book called The Princess Bride, written by the same person who wrote the screenplay for the movie! It was an easy, fun read
In case if you two are interested, the man who played the grandpa also played the famous TV detective "Columbo", who was extremely smart and outwitted the bad guys by pretending to be dumb. I think you'd all have a VERY fun time with it.

I know the design of The Machine is kind of meant to be sort of silly, but I still feel that the scream Wesley lets out when Humperdink cranks it up to 50 is genuinely a great disturbing performance. The way he arches and tenses up his whole body like he's being wracked by pain along his entire nervous system, that scream, every muscle flexing and spasming as he trembles back and forth. And then cutting away to the idea that the scream is so intense it echoes out into the countryside for miles. Just genuinely well done sense of dread to that moment.
Vizzini was played by a man named Wallace Shawn... one of the great character actors of our time.

SUCH a good choice, I love this movie.
I would watch this movie with my Grammy, who passed away from colon cancer in 2019. When she passed, I drove all the way from Texas to Pennsylvania to go to her funeral, and stayed with my Papa overnight afterwards. I had fallen asleep on my Grammy’s recliner/rocking chair, and woke up to my Papa sitting beside me in his chair flipping through the tv. I saw “The Princess Bride” was on, and mentioned that Gram and I would watch it. My Papa was never a fan or watched it with us, but that night he did. We cried the entire time. I told stories of Grams favorite lines or scenes. The jokes. The laughing. It is a memory I hold on my heart dearly.
This movie means so much to myself and him now, and we share that same love for it that my Grammy and I did. 💕💕

The Grandfather's "As you wish" gets me everytime.
IDK why, but I always tear up at the end when grandpa says "as you wish" ... A grandfather expressing such love to his grandson is so beautiful.
45:32 this movie is quite popular at least in America, though it wasn’t a hit in theaters. It’s so many things, a fantasy, a romance, a comedy, a satire of fairy tales in general, it has a meta component in the grandfather reading the book to the grandson, it was difficult to sell to audiences at the time. However, after it was released on home video and later DVD, it attained a new audience that grew and grew. Nowadays, there is hardly a person I know who can’t quote at least a line or two, and many people cite it as their favorite movie to watch with family members. It’s a perfect gem of a movie that just about anyone of any age can enjoy, up to and including heads of state and at least one Pope, according to the actor Cary Elwes, who played Westley. Glad you all enjoyed it, read the book As You Wish if you’d like to hear about the making of process and the longevity of The Princess Bride.
They don’t make movies like this anymore. There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. This movie is one of them! 10/10 movie and 10/10 reaction! Especially when you all put in masks 😂
This movie is straight from my childhood.
I was about 13 (in ‘87) when we rented the VHS. The film was bought multiple times in multiple formats over the decades. Still a favorite and if I meet someone who wants a movie recommendation, this is my first suggestion

Inigo kissed the miracle pill, before giving it to Wrstley, and some of the miracle went to him, which enabled him to recover from the dagger wound to his belly.
A couple other great Rob Reiner directed movies: "When Harry Met Sally" (which stars Billy Crystal who played Miracle Max in this film) and "This is Spinal Tap!" (which stars Christopher Guest who played The Six Fingered Man in this film)
The 1980's had such wonderful fantasy movies and fairytale movies. If you haven't seen them already you will love Legend with Tom Cruise, The Never Ending Story, Labyrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly( one of my all time favorites) and Willow with Val Kilmer. The Beast Master and Connan the Barbarion with Arnold Swartzenhager get an honorable mention. CONNAN by the way made Swartzenhager famous and started his acting career. You are all so beautiful and absolutely adorable. These movies bring out the child in all of us hope you enjoy them. Start with Labyrinth you'll have a great time. Puppets and fantasy. So much fun! Jennifer was only 16 when she stared in this and David Bowie is a Rock and Roll legend.
it's this movie that brought back to life the secret romance/romantic use of 3 simple words and how one says "As You Wish" when letting the other person figure out that your secretly madly in love with them.
Arnold Schwarzenegger told some great stories about the strongest men he ever met. He acted with Andre the Giant in "The Running Man" and he acted with Wilt Chamberlain in "Conan the Destroyer". Both men stood over 7 ft. tall and both could lift hundreds of pounds each over their heads with no problems. Both did most of their own stunts on these films because there were no stunt men big enough to double them.
One of my favorite movies and books of all time.
When I tried to show the movie to my friends when we were about twenty, they had the same reaction as the kid, and they refused to watch it for years. When they did it took some convincing to stop them turning it off early on. They loved it by the end.

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite childhood movies and I'm so Happy y'all enjoyed it!! I highly recommend watching The Court Jester, starring Danny Kaye. It's an action/comedy from the 50s that I still find hilarious and a very sweet film overall
This is one of my dad's favorite movies - I love watching it with him because he gets SO excited and quotes all the lines. I use "what's your favorite movie" as an icebreaker, and a LOT of people say The Princess Bride.
Love this movie! It came out when I was a young teen and now I've shown it to my kids who are teens. My friends andni watched it so much when we are younger we can quote the whole thing. So many good lines. I loved hearing you all say "inconceivable" throughout the movie

It seems inconceivable that it didn’t do well when it was released in theaters, but it didn’t. I’m happy that so many people have wised up to how great it is since then.
I used to work in a homeless youth shelter (14-19 yr olds), and since we'd play a movie before lights out each night, would bring this in once every couple months. Was so funny watching some of the new kids blanch at hearing the title and complain, while some of the longer term ones would talk them down to convince them to watch. 😂

Nice to see Chi in a comedy reaction. INCONCEIVABLE! You have now seen Cary Elwes in Liar Liar, Robin Hood Men in Tights, and the Princess Bride. All comedies. May I suggest you watch Kiss the Girls next? You will be very surprised by his performance in that one. It is a thriller, and it’s a great movie.
My dad saw this movie in theaters when he was 12 and when it played on TV he recorded it on VHS. He watched it several times a week into adulthood and then would watch it with us every weekend when I was a kid. It's still one of my favorite movies and I can repeat it backwards and forewords almost lol
