I put some Stormtroopers in a peroxide bath about 6 years ago, I used 3% peroxide and half water and the Australian Sun did the job in approximately 5 hours and to this day those stormies are as bone white as the day then were opened!
That's how its done, my friend! Doing this to one's own toys isn't for everyone but if you're okay with the process, it definitely works!
What if I brush my teeth with it then smile at the sun for a few hours?
@@funnysoup9708 Let me know how that works out bud! 😂
Sounds like that low percentage peroxide does the trick, no pinking of the arms?
Not that I’ve seen on any I’ve done.
Very informative and so true on the statement about these being "your figures". People sometimes feel too much outside pressure from voices on what to do and not do, do what makes you happy with your collection. Great video
At the end of the day, these are toys. And if they are yours then you should be able to do with as them as you did when you were a kid. Same rules apply. Just be honest if you are questioned when reselling something altered. You know what I mean. Glad you were able to get some solid info.
@@GQJedi that's how I clean a figure when I buy them used. I use warm water and pour soap on my figures it kills germs because who knows we're those figures have been and who's touched them
Thanks for the cleaning advice. Very useful. 👍
You’re most welcome!
I really enjoyed this presentation and tips. I am getting an arsenal put together to help de-yellow things. Working on a Wampa now. Did a few “Bacta baths” with liquid hydrogen peroxide. Getting some volume 40 next and will hit it with a few rounds of that next. The Texas sun should do the trick where I live.
Good luck with all your “baths”. It’s a great method that works really well.
Well thanks for the information. I lived in the Netherlands the sumer is over now. I cleaned 70% of my Stormtroopers and with good results.
THANK U SIR.
Happy to hear that you had great results with this method. Congrats! You are most welcome :) Please share the channel info with any other fellow Star Wars enthusiasts. MTFBWY
Thank you! I have recently started collecting Star Wars figures again and this was definitely a helpful video!!!
You’re welcome! Glad I could shed some light on the subject.
Great stuff! Definitely going to use these tips! I wish I had known about the toothbrush years ago, I just started using one for dusting recently
Hey bud! Thought of reaching out to you since I know you had asked and wanted to know more about lighter fluid. Glad you found and watched the video! :) Toothbrush is key. Best tool for the job, my friend.
Awesome video from gqjedi on how to clean you star wars capes 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching. Appreciate the good vibes. If you're digging the content, please feel free to share the channel with other Star Wars enthusiasts.
You mean I can restore my Wampa to its original fierce whiteness?!? Impressive. Most impressive!
You can definitely improve upon the current yellowed state that it may be in, yes.
Great Advice, GQJ! The peroxide works like magic. I did the same thing with a vintage StormShadow. Now he’s white as snow.I’ve used lighter fluid to clean a card back, but never thought to use it on a figure. Thanks for the tip 🤓👍
Glad to hear that you had success with it! Fantastic! You're welcome. Hope you're enjoying the rest of the videos as well:)

So, I bought around 50 of the 1996+ POTF2 stormtroopers new when they came out for a diorama I was making. I opened all of them, set them up, didn't like the way it looked and put them in a glad ziploc freezer bag, a box, and into a closet they lived for 20+ years. Sometime after that, I wanted to take an inventory of what I had so, I pulled out the many boxes of toys I have. I eventually got to the loose figures and saw the bag of stormtroopers. I was shocked to see that all of their heads and bodies were as white as the day I bought them but, their arms and legs were dark yellow! They haven't been in the sun or exposed to UV whatsoever. I guess they had a either a bad reaction with the ziploc bag or this happens no matter what. I haven't tried to Hydrogen Peroxide them yet but, If not exposed to UV, how did this happen?
Even without being in direct sunlight, the figures can "age". Its just the chemical compounds within the plastic. Nothing you can do to stop it per se. But having the toys in the direct sunlight will speed up the process. It won't happen to all of the figures but it will happen to some, no doubt. Sometimes certain plastic baggies also affect the plastic in the figures. But by dunking the figures in hydrogen peroxide and leaving in the sun, you reverse the aging process. FYI : Even after doing the method, some figures will revert back to their yellowed state. I've seen this happen with my own figures. Some will stay white for a long time and some will change back. LOL. It is what is is, my man. Still worth a go in my opinion if you hate looking at yellowed figures.
i am definitely not a collector of these figures, but i recently found an really dirty old stormtrooper commander figure just lying in a box in the attic, thanks for the help!
You're most welcome!
Going to try the lighter fluid on the bottom of some of my figures feet thanks for the tip.i have a few with initials on them.i use a toothbrush for babies to clean my figures as the brush is a lot softer and doesn't harm the paint
Give it a go! It might not take it all off but it should lighten it some. I’ve had great luck with it.
GQJ Good review! Loved the collection background Motif!!! And the vintage Toys R Us store front that was a memory emotional breakdown 😢x😊 and the hydrogen peroxide sounds like a good idea, My Mello yellow storm trooper squad will be happy once again again!!! Luke luke May the hydrogen be with you...
Glad you’re enjoying the content! Lots of review vids and tips to check out;) Best of luck with your Stormies!
Nice video! Thanks for the lighter fluid tip!
My pleasure:) Thanks for stopping by!!
I hate when plastic gets sticky! So much for plastic never decaying in nature.. lol. You should be a museum restoration expert on the side. Good vid!
It's a sad thing when it happens! Poor plastic. Poor toys. Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words and support!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This is a very important video!
I appreciate you doing this.
Any time I see a video on deyellowing, I keep thinking about my stormtroopers.
I keep all my figures out of sunlight, ESPECIALLY my vintage collection!
In fact, last week I opened the box I have my complete figures in, and the front half of a stormtrooper was more yellow than it was when I got it 15 years ago (my first complete st fig).
It's not too bad, but I'm very leery of the process, but I have trust, so I need to test it on a stormtrooper that is in rough shape (love to figures of ALL conditions!). :)
Thanks again!
I had to give Boba Fett a bath last week due to the decay .. 😔
Talk about an ordeal!
He fought me the WHOLE way! :)
By the way, I had NO idea that Kenner had used a fire retardant in the plastic!
Thank you again for your Jedi wisdom :)
Thanks for watching it. It's a simple but effective method that I've had repeat success with. Had to share it with you all.
I find it relaxing and rewarding to wash my figures when they are dirty. Nothing better than squeaky clean figures :)
Great video. Just what I was looking for. I live in Denmark, and never see Kenner Star Wars stuff anywhere. I was just in a thrift store today, and found a lot of 13 figures, including General Lando with cape, for 15$. So I needed some advice on how to clean them.
So glad I could point you in the right direction. Best of luck with your projects.
Very nice info! Thank you. I definitely need to get some lighter fluid to my Leia figure, she has an ink mark or two on her cape from my childhood.
That lighter fluid should help lighten and possibly remove that ink altogether. Good luck, Bill!
@@GQJediit worked! Got the lighter fluid and a Q-tip and a good wash and Leia’s cape looks good as it did in 1978! Got all the ink out with some firm strokes. Thanks again for that tip!
I used hydrogen peroxide on my Princess Leia of her arms and legs were pretty yellowed and they look a little better but I'm going to try the volume 40 from the Beauty Salon and sunlight of course. Thanks for the tip.
Volume 40 will definitely brighten her limbs and torso up. The key is good sunlight. Keep me posted on your progress ;)
I'm not sure about the peroxide.... But this guy is great! Love his content!
Thanks for tuning in!
@@GQJediI’m using 9% HP for 2 of the yellowest troopers I’ve seen - 5 hours and no progress - does adding water help ?
Good advice 👍
Just speaking from experience.
@@GQJedi right on 👍
Nice vid man
Thanks for checking it out!
I am cleaning two storm-troopers right now with 40% hydrogen peroxide paste it works well and i did my old remote .R2-D2 it came out nice so thank you for the tip.....it works ....
I'm happy to hear that it worked well for you! You're most welcome. Thanks for sharing, Shawn!
Awesome video very informative and entertaining. I don’t like yellow stormtroopers either 😂
Glad I could share some cool tips for you! I wish you luck on your restorations!
Very good
I've had a stormtrooper i played with since the first release.what about my c3po? I.I'm afraid to cook his Shiney exterior, but I have had him boxless since 77.
You can peroxide Stormtroopers with no problem but I don’t know what will happen if you try doing that to a non white figure. Would probably ruin it further. But I’ve never tried. 🤷🏻♂️Only done this method to yellowed white figures.
8:21 I see peroxide got the tip of your thumb! Haha! There’s nothing like that mad dash for the sink when the prickly effects of the peroxide start hitting your skin. Definitely been there done that - anything for the cause!
Kind of used to that feeling having done it a few times. But yes, anything for the cause :)
@@GQJedi Absolutely! I just finished whitening a Kenner large Stormtrooper and an original tie fighter. Minty white now!
Quality video, brother. Didn't know about the flame retardent constituents in the plastic, so that was fascinating. I too have found that plain soapy water does the trick for getting rid of tackyness on figures. The stark white you achieved on that R2 was amazing. With patience, I hope to add more to my Star Wars collection because they are good quality toys- but unfortunately I suffered two casualties some nights ago when a Bossk and Dengar had their heads twist right off😭 Thanks again and sorry for the long comment lol One last thing- I think I'm fine with yellow troopers as they can merge well with the upcoming Retro Mando next year.
Thank you so much! Soapy water is all you need most of the time. Sorry to hear about your poor bounty hunters. Always tragic when you lose a figure. My condolences to you, Sir. Hey - they're your figures, yellow or not :) Are you caught up on Mando?
@@GQJedi They were fine men... Can't say I've seen the latest season yet as I prefer to watch the episodes consecutively without the one week wait😙
@@RiderOrigin BInge Streaming is the Best! No doubt. I hear you!
Accidentally scratched my landspeeder.. wondering what would be best to take light scratches out?
Ouch! Not sure as I've never come across that problem. Wish I had an easy solution for you, pal.
Just used weaker medical peroxide recently with amazing results on a stormy and snowy trooper, farm boy Luke and a Leia. Found the hard way about the AT-AT driver emblems, though.
HP works wonders on white plastics! Emblems...yeah. Sorry buddy. Hard lesson to learn.
@@GQJedi It was my brother's old toy and those emblems were half worn off anyway. It does mean I'm looking for a better one before and after ;)
Gotcha. Collections should have decent Drivers in them. No doubt ;)
Where did you get the weaker peroxide?
In the supermarket medical aisle here in Australia.
That was a wild video! Thank you!!! It makes buying vintage that much more sketchy. Was this figure bleached? You don't know. I'm going to try your technique on my Stormtrooper. He is looking greasy!
Yes. You got to educate yourself on the things you want to buy and always ask questions. Not everyone that collects and sells subscribes to this method of “cleaning”, which is completely understandable. But I think if you know you’re keeping your toys, then you can decide on what you want to do with them. Period. Good luck whitening that Stormie Luke.
BTW, love the show.
Thank you!!
Good one. I've been using peroxide for a number of years and have discovered the yellowing does return after a while. Of course this is a sacrosanct process to some puritanical collectors but like most comments its your plastic shit and do what you like with it!
To each their own. Absolutely! I’m just sharing what I know. Free info to all to do as they see fit.
How would you recommend cleaning a 4-Lom coat, little soap and water with a toothbrush or qtip?
If you mean the outside of the coat, yeah. A little soap and water with a Q-tip would be what I would use. Or your finger. Be gentle though. Most dirt and grime should come right off with water and soap. If not, try a little lighter fluid on a Q-Tip to get hard stains, ink and the like off.
Good advice. I will be trying this process soon. Question, will the peroxide affect the black on the troopers?
Doesn’t do squat to the black on troopers. Nada. Just don’t leave them in there longer than you need to get color you want. Eventually the plastic can get funky. Also- it will fade red emblems on ATAT drivers, turn them yellow. Pink hands on Leia & Luke can also fade. So just giving you a heads up!
@@GQJedi Thanks for your help.
My pleasure! MTFBWY
@@GQJedi Do you have to turn them while in the sun or just let them be?
As long as they’re submerged in solution, they should be fine as is. But if you can turn them once in awhile in the sun, I would. They need as much sun on the yellow spots as possible.
So the black doesn't get effected? I have a Luke Stormy I wanna give a bath to just don't wanna effect the black.
I haven't seen it do anything to the black. But if you would like to see for yourself, try it out on a regular Stormtrooper to see results first before dunking your Luke.
I have a 1984 original Stromtrooper Luke would it be okay to use these cleaning steps on that particular figure?
I have never tried it on Stormie Luke, as mine is minty. Based on my experience all the white in the plastic in these Kenner figures returns after the de-yellowing process is complete. However, as I mentioned in the video, the peroxide can effect the other non white colors on the figure. So if you are going to try this out, I would highly recommend wrapping Luke's head in plastic or some kind of putty to protect it. I would not submerge or coat the head in any of the peroxide just to be on the safe side. I had a Princess Leia figure that I did this method to, and it lightened the pink in her hands, which was a bummer. So, definitely wrap Luke's head if you're going to give this a go! Good luck to you and let me know how it all works out if you do it. Cheers!
So you can use straight hydrogen peroxide, or must you use the volume 40 developer?
Use the Vol 40 Developer creme or solution from your local beauty supply store.
Hi I have rust stained blasters. Any tips on how to get the rust off? Tya
I've never dealt with that issue before. I would just soak them in hot water with soap and take a toothbrush to them.
Im looking to de-yellow farm boy Luke. Will this lighten the hair color or the pants?
In my experience I didn’t notice it doing anything to the pants or hair. But I can’t promise it won’t either. I can tell you that Luke’s hands will lighten. The Peroxide does have an effect on the pink color. So you’ll have to rig it in a way so Luke’s hands stay out of the peroxide. I normally do this to yellowed troopers. Only tried dunking Luke once and saw the paint on hands lighten. But I don’t think it will fade the yellow. You also don’t want to leave the figure in the solution too long either way. Once you got your desired color, take him out.
Hello rhabks a lot for the video, I am French and do not understand exactly which magic product you advice for de-yellow?
Hydrogen Peroxide. You can get it any Beauty Supply Store. Liquid or Creme. I prefer to dunk my figures in the liquid solution.
Thank you so much for your answer
@@pierrefreys4295 My pleasure! FYI: I just released a brand new collection tour video on my channel this morning. Check it out!

Just a question buddy, can we re-use the peroxide that we use? I took it out but as my luck would call, it started to rain, sunlight was gone.
As long as the solution doesn’t get too cloudy from figures being in it, you’re good. Especially if you never used it!
Luckily the stuff is fairly cheap to buy so if you use it all up, just get another bottle. But a giant bottle usually lasted me a long time;)
So will the 40 volume really work or is that too strong? I picked up 40 volune cream and developer....also created a UV light bed........im seeing prople only using 6% Hydrogen peroxide... any other advice conibg from you guyS?
That’s what I use, Vol 40. Give it a go, you’ve got what you need it sounds! Pretty simple process really. Not much else to explain :)
I used a q-tip with lighter fluid on a beater (Biker Scout) to clean it. But the black paint came right off... I'm affraid to try it again. Did I do it wrong?
I'm sorry to hear that. You didn't do it wrong. I think the black paint reacted to the fluid and it ate it off. I've used that fluid on all sorts of figs and nothing negative happened. The black paint on the biker is the exception from what I now know. Again, sorry to hear that happened. I generally use it to clean all my figures when they are "dirty" with stuff that doesn't come off with soap and water.
Good video... I won't tell anyone about Lando.... lol
Thanks for watching! You won't?! Oh thank god.... :)
Grat video, thank you! (But your audio was over the place).
My earliest vids had some glitches. Ha
@@GQJedi, must not be easy, thanks for putting it together!
@edwinrosales6322 My pleasure!
Does the peroxide fade black paint on a Stormtrooper? Or the brown paint on a Wampa?
If you leave figure long enough just to brighten the white part, no. The black remains an affected from my experience. But You have to keep an eye on it, you can’t just leave it in there unattended for days on end. Eventually it will lighten the brown on Wampa yes.
@@GQJedi thank you for the helpful video and your additional advice.
No problem. Best of luck to you 👊🏻
The old argument should you or shouldn’t you. I don’t bleach my stuff bc I love the worm in look. I have no issues with pale doing it, but the no no is selling off bleached figures without informing the buyer the process has been done.
Precisely.
has the yellowing returned? because I hear that it tends to yellow back.
I've had a couple figures regress back. But I'd say 85% of what I've done over the years have retained their whiteness. You won't know til you try it. My experience has been great.
@GQJedi Thank you for the reply, I want to try the treatment with the vc149 r2-d2 because he has become yellowed. Hopefully, it will work, and again, thank you for the video.
No problem! Good luck with it, bro. Keep me posted on your results.
Did the yellowness come back?
Nope.
@@GQJedi hell yeah
I've had great results. Although, I've heard others having the yellow return but you can always repeat the process if needed. But do not leave the figures in the peroxide any longer than you need to get them white. Bleach them and then pull them out.
How about Luke's stormtrooper helmet?
Never tried it on a helmet. Only one way to find out tho.
Ok,thank you
Hello, how minimum hours needed ?
I can’t tell you that. Depends on the strength of sun etc. All day would probably do the trick. But my suggestion is to do the application and reapply as necessary.
Thanks Friend, i tried on my Leia and 4 hours was necessary really cool, it works ! And the figure looks very clean, no paint loss.😊thanks ! @@GQJedi
Awesome!! Glad it worked out well for you.
Don't get the Peroxide in your eyes, or splash it around... It gets kinda rough if you get a face full.
That's big 10-4, good buddy. The stuff can sting a tad if you let it soak on your skin long enough. But to be honest, I've used it so much, I don't even notice it anymore until I see that my skin has turned white! LOL
Lucky me, my wife is a cosmetologist.
Haha! That’s awesome! Save money on product.
Sorry folks but calling BS on the Hydrogen Peroxide method. Been there, done that and I too thought I had discovered a miraculous way to restore my yellowed items from Stormtroopers to Millennium Falcons. I was amazed how clean & new my Falcon turned out, and my yellowed Stormtroopers. But after a couple of months they all reverted back. I'm even sure the Falcon looks a little worse now. Oh well, you live and you learn but be careful. I just saw a Falcon on eBay and I know that super clean like-new look anywhere.
In all the times I've done it, I've had very few Stormies revert back. Like maybe 3 out of 30. LOL. Some are more prone to the degradation and HP doesn't keep em yellow. True. But the majority of what I've experimented on since doing this video, which is now a couple years old, have retained their snowy complexion. Results will vary. This is a free method, near free with the exception of a $5 bottle of peroxide. For me personally, I'd rather do it and maybe have to do it again a few years later if necessary than not have the option at all. Cheers.
Can you do it to a yak face ?
Not sure. Never tried it on a Yak.
@@GQJedi well, I’m happy to report - after 8 hours - it’s starting to work ! A £200 gamble
Excellent News!
Great video but man I wouldn't want to do all this chemical stuff to my figures. I've got some that need it though!
Thank you! Appreciate you stopping by and checking it out. Do what makes you feel best about your collection. No rules. No pressure. From anyone.
@@GQJedi Love SW content and community on youtube...check out my videos sometime!
Same. Will do!
You look a lot like Ethan Hawke. Even sounds like him a bit.
No kidding? He’s a solid actor.
Hydrogen Peroxide... sacre bleu!
That's right! Not for the weak at heart. Haha. I know some people will take umbrage over this information but so be it.
@@GQJedi my personal opinion is just that. I think you get to do what you want with your stuff!
Collectors that you and I both know in certain groups freak out about this behavior but if its your toy and you aren't selling it, do what you want with it. If you do sell it and there's any questions about it, that's your opportunity to let any potential future buyer/collector know what's been done if anything. Other than that, these are toys and they are all loose. None of them are rare when loose so it really shouldn't be a big issue either way. That's just my 2 cents. I'm simply sharing what I know :)
@@GQJedi agree. I'm anti repro, aftermarket, peroxide for my stuff, but I have no business telling others how to enjoy 40 year old space wizard toys
I ONLY do this on my extra figures. I would never HP any figs that I keep in my main collection. That’s where I stay pure. The main run. I have a limit to things that are my One and Only version or Collection Run item. But if I’ve got 25 stormtroopers, which I do, and ones yellow, sure I’ll brighten his armor up. But again, it’s my choice. 🤘🏻
