Cheers for the advice! I‘ve never thought about using makeup brushes before, but I have plenty so I’m definitely going to incorporate that in to my future cleaning routine. Also, in terms of cleaning, I’ve always found my Hot Toys figures the most intimidating to do for fear of damaging them. At least loose action figures are significantly less intimidating. 😂
Just found this video thanks! Also not sure if you ever got around to it but I highly recommend an air purifier and id say to get a pretty decent one because a cheap one will just not be effective when it comes to these. Dust your collection room first so that when you add the air purifier you have something measurable as you can wait and see how long it takes until you really need to dust again. You'll be amazed at just how much dust it removes from the air as long as you change the filters every 3 months or so. I recommend something from Winnix or a brand such as Coway. Levoit does a decent job as well.
Appreciate this, I pickup a good portion of my figures from ebay lot wins(like you, I get excited about good value buys)and like to clean them thoroughly! Maintaining the cards info was helpful👍👍
This is super helpful. I decided to dig through my old toy boxes for my old transformers, and as a bit of grmaphobe, and I want to clean them before i play/display them. I display anime figs and model kits so im used to fighring dust, but I've been weary of cracking my old toy boxes open.
Great video! Maybe interesting thought on the yellowed blister you showed. One of my (too) many other hobbies is model building. Often when you get a vintage kit, the clear film of the decals have yellowed. I've read many times in modelling magazines and books that you should put the decal sheet in a sunny window and the sunlight will fade the yellowness. Have never tried it myself and kind of doubt it would work since in my experience, sunlight is generally no bueno. However, it might be an interesting experiment to try it on a yellowed out blister.
Thank you! Maybe I'll try the experiment with a moc that I don't as much about in case it doesn't work. I agree with you that normally sunlight I thought would fade the colors in general not just the yellow price tag.
I need to know good methods to just keep dust away!! Also Big Nerdy, do you know if like Lysol wipes or stuff like that, maybe baby wipes even is good for cleaning loose figures or is that a big No?
Thank you so much. Great vid. Save silica packs from shoes and electronics. They can be used to absorb moisture in your storage bags and boxes. Silica packs never expire.
Besides make up brushes which are awsome, cheap acrylic paint brushes set can be a god send for joints cracks and mold lines etc. Also a Acrylic brush for dry brushing and alcohol water mix and some short light fast strokes can even clean up a lot of nicotine stains.
Hey Matt! Love your videos. Been watching them all day! A little specific request, but how about you make a video on best action figure stands? I've been having a hard time finding good and reasonable ones...!
Armor all works to give it that shine and keep the figures looking clean and protects them also, after washing them with dish soap (Dawn) I did this to my vintage thundercats and they look new 😁👍🏼👍🏼
I put an air purifier in my room and I don't have nearly the problem with dust that I used to. It's one that uses a HEPA filter. Just be sure the cfm is high enough for the volume of your room(s).
I use the Winix-5500 in my collection room and only need to dust once every 3 months. But I have hard wood floors so it may be different for people who have carpeting.
Hydrogen peroxide works great on figures that have yellowed over time. I used a typical cereal bowl. Added four storm troopers and filled it with hydrogen peroxide and let them sit in the sun for two hours. They came out bright white. I couldn't believe it. I was so frightened to leave any action figure in the sun even for a second. Also, another great video sir. Keep up the great work.
I just had my sick cat vomit on two marvel legends while I was at work. The vomit was already dried when I found them so I let them soak in warm water for a bit to make it soft. Rinsed them with a hot water from a shower hose. Them let them sit in boiling water for a short time because I didn't want to risk cleaners removing any paint or deco
Awesome I just had a heman sent to me my buddy in Arizona needed his bands fixed on heman hes absolutely gorgeous I been looking to see what I can use to clean him anyways to make him shine even more so with that im subscribing to u
Hi Mate, what is your recommendation to clean NECA figures here's the one I need to clean ; NECA Ultimate Comando, Terminator tech noir, Terminator police assault. Thank for your help, really appreciate it. Keep up your amazing videos, 💯😸🙏
Great tips! Any idea on how to get vintage motu figures torso apart easily?...the toy polloi method worked (but only for battle armor skeletor/he-man...not others)
Thanks for video. Will this technique also remove mold/mildew odors? Had a bunch of loose Marvel Legends stored in a shed a few years and they kind of stink.
It might, I'd suggest running an air purifier and also getting some baking soda and putting the loose figures in a large container with a lid and place the bag of baking soda in it. Obviously, don't dump the baking soda on or under the figures, but an air tight container with the open bag of baking soda should help. Maybe check on the smell in a couple days and if it's still there try a week. Let me know how it turned out.
Sunlight and certain other light can discolor some plastics and PVC materials. It's oxidation like cars get. There are cleaners to remove oxidation for cars, even plastic parts on cars but I'm not sure if they would be safe for toys or packaging.
Is cleaning with soapy water safe for expensive figures like Mafex and Figuarts? My figures got exposed to someone with the virus and I'm not sure if spraying them with disinfectant is safe.
so yellowing for figures comes from oxygen exposure...its a chemical reaction causing breakdown of the plastic, or more specifically the Bromine that is a flame retardent chemical added to the plastics to stabilize them in their liquid form, and this may or may not happen to new on card toys its a bit of a matter of luck, but storage conditions can also impact the chance too
Hey I have a 1964 12 inch gijoe from England he has a really bad musty smell any suggestions what I can do with him has no visible mold on him just stinks
My dad is giving me a bunch of his old Spawn figures. I’m going to try this to clean them up Only keeping a few so hopefully I can get the ones I’m getting rid of nice and presentable for their new owners
Great video! Im also curious about the softer plastic rubbery clothing and hair like on the old toy biz lord of the rings figures or marvel legends, dish soap does ok for some, but not others...
Thank you and good question. Maybe try some vinegar with baking soda and lightly brush with a toothbrush. It's gentle enough not to strip the paint, but the combination should give it a good cleaning.
Plastic if any variety will eventually oxidize and become brittle depending on the environment that it's kept in. Regardless, time will turn clear plastic yellow. It was never made to last. Now there is a unique way of getting rid of it. But it only be for non-packaging plastic. I've seen a lot of luck with hydrogen peroxide and UV light on getting it the yellow tinge out of plastic
Good day dude, i was wondering.. How do i clean the tip of my luke skywalker nose?. The black boot/leg of another figure colour transferred to his nose tip?.
Try zit cream on the spot, wrap in plastic wrap and put in the sun for a few hours. When you take out of the sun, wipe off cream and see if the spot is gone. If not, repeat steps until gone. This is what is used on spots like this on dolls.
I have a few Mattel Dc Universe figures and the plastic has a yellow tint to the different parts on the figure like the torso or the legs. How can I restore the color back.
You could try to air them out. If they are out of the box you could try air freshner spray like Ozone or fragrance free Febreze. If they're MOC I'd only air them out and see if that helps. Good luck Tony.
I know I'm late to the party, but you can ckean the yellow from the bluster packs and from figures. Not just smoke will yellow some plastics, some plastics will just absorb pollutants from the air. So, how to clean. First you'll want to go to a beauty store (get some makeup brushes while you're there and stop pissing off the wife. 😉 ) You want to find a Hydrogen Peroxide based hair bleching cream... not liquid, but cream. The higher the percentage the better. 15 - 20% is easy to find, 40% is hard to find but will make it go faster. Paint the creme onto the yellowed plast and then subject it to UV light either with a high power black light or just leave it in the sun (Powerful Black Lights are much faster than the sun), cover anything that could fade like the card board backing. Don't get the cream on the cardboard. For full plastic figures, get a large glass jar, mason jars are cheap and easy to find. (Walmart has a selection of larger single mason jars that can fit most anything) Now either mic cream with water and fill jar or just use liquid hydrogen peroxide (3% will take days in the sun or 24 hours in blacklight) and again, subject to UV light. Hope this helps some of you out.
@@Nerdzoic I had the epic awesome KISS figures in (poorly done) storage, but the card is bent, not crimped, at a place where the plastic will not affect it. Have you experimented with heat or something to get a card straight?

Dude,
I have almost watched all your videos in a single weekend!😂
Great job!👍
Wow, thanks! That means a lot!
I have just started to do the same. And I do not collect figures. I only collect some Star Wars LEGO and Castle themed LEGO.
Because of your videos I’m starting to collecting star wars black series again. Thank you.
Great to hear! Have fun with it!
Mr clean... yep, heard that one few million times.. i too am a bald nerd who loves figures
Haha we are becoming a stereotype
As another bootleg Professor X, I'm all for embracing that stereotype 🤷🏽♂️

What about headlight restoration liquids for yellowing bubbles? Anyone tried?
Hello nerdy tongue-pierced one....The yellowing on the blister is mainly from light and exposure.....not smoking.
Haha. Maybe, but my bedroom was in the bottom of a bi-level with barely any sunlight so I think that part was mainly the heavy chain smoking.

The thought of soaking any action figures with paint on them makes me very anxious, always has.
How do you straighten a warped card on a carded figure?
good question. depending on the figure, a lot of the time a plastic clam shell will slowly bend it back into place
