- The Sweep feature in Outlook gives you options to automatically delete all incoming emails from a particular sender, to keep only the latest email, or to delete emails older than 10 days (which I use all the time). Sweep is a great way of keeping your inbox clean.

Sweep rules
When you use Sweep, it creates rules in Outlook. Some rules are Rules and other rules are Sweep Rules.
Availability of Sweep
Sweep is not available on Outlook desktop, but any sweeps you do in Outlook on the web, reflect in Outlook on the desktop. Sweep works in my personal Outlook and my work Outlook, but as pointed out, still only for the web.

My cat was intently watching this video over my shoulder. I’ve never seen him so intrigued by anything on a screen before! 😸
Your cat has great taste!
Very helpful, thank you! My inbox is such a mess, this should help clean it up finally and be more organised!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video! I can work on this a few at a time to get my inbox in order.
Glad it was helpful! I love the 10 day rule. Thanks, Charles!

Welcome. Thanks, Michael!

Hi Chris, how are you? Do you know if it possible to get the same organization by subject and not from specific contact? I have a huge organization in folders but I prefer to organize by subject. The point is that I keep receiving email from the same content and always need to organize it clicking and placing on the correct folder. If SWEEP tool can help me on this it would be perfect! Thanks!
Hi - hopefully you'll see this. I have the sweep button and I see the 4 options -- is the first option still working. I used to select a bunch of emails and select the first choice and it would delete all the messages from those selected senders (all the history) but now it does nothing when I click the top choice. (Move all messages from the inbox folder). My email is such a mess and I need to get rid of so many messages and I loved this function but it just stopped working -- any tips?
Urgh, hadn't noticed the option for "future messages" and wondered why it hadn't made any rules. thanks!
Doesn’t work. I hit five items and ten minutes late the wheel is still spinning. It’s done I will probably only have deleted 15 messages which I could’ve done faster manually
I forwarded a ton of messages from gmail in the past. I can sweep the gmail. Is there any way?
Doesn’t work. I hit five things to sweep and 10 minutes later the little circle is still spinning. By the time it’s done it’ll probably have deleted 15 items which I could’ve done quicker manually
Is there a way to do the after 10 days with all emails in a folder rather than by individual sender?
Sam, that would be a great feature but it is by a user's email.
Not sure if you've already figured this out, but if you use his instructions on an email that's already inside the folder you want to affect, it will create the rule as you wished. Here's a screenshot of the rule description - imgur.com/a/88YvMMh
ETA: It works if all the emails in that folder are from the same sender, ofc
Right from the beginning of this video I am confused: What did you do to show your email account on the upper right?
Went to outlook.office365.com and signed into my account.
@@ChrisMenardTraining But I recall that in the video, you were in Outlook before you displayed the account. I remain confused.
This seems similar to what MS did several decades ago when they introduced the context sensitive right clicking of the mouse. I never remember ever seeing any discussion of this feature before it was introduced. Instead, we got a new version of Office & I couldn't find many of the previous menu choices. I stumbled around for months before some co-worker pointed out this Right Clicking function. I don't mean to imply that Right Clicking is bad. But it is new & different. And it is unrealistic to expect users to automatically transition to the new functionality without training.
How can you change the number of days??
No. Just what you see. That would be a great feature.
Hmm this seems completely broken. You add rules, it says success - the review the rules - none there, and they don't then work.
How SWEEP IT IS...
Thanks!
