    My Cerave moisturizing cream (with the pump!) arrived today, and I am so excited that I can use it for face and body! Dr. Dray, I will admit that I was one of those ingredient snobs, insisting on "green" and "clean" ingredients. At one point, I was using so many different oils and essential oils (cleansing, toning, moisturizing) that my skin was a disaster. The oil cleanser had actually herbs and spices floating in it! Nice for abrasions....
    I backed off of the products, and I healed my skin. Since discovering your channel, I have streamlined even further. I'll probably never give up my beloved Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate, but I love the ease of mixing some simple drugstore products into my skincare routine.
    I always fancied myself the sort of person who didn't mind spending a pretty penny on skincare, but as of late, I've been focusing on saving for retirement, and I realized that a massive skincare budget isn't going to be sustainable once I retire. Although I still have quite a way to go, i think that it's never to soon to realize that fiscal responsibility now can set you up for fiscal security later.
    Have a great weekend!

    Dr. Dray - I used to think that I had chronically dry lips, that they would always be dry and there was nothing I could do. But after your lip product video I learned that my lips could be irritated by one (or more) of the ingredients in my lip products. I've been testing out several products lately, and I've learned that my lips become very dry and flaky if limonene and/or linalool are listed in the ingredients, so I've been avoiding those lately. Thank you so much for the education you provide! I have soft smooth lips for the first time I can remember!!!

      limonene and linalool are fragrance :)

    • @liznotslow
      @liznotslow 7 лет назад +1

      MzGraceful, as boring as it is, the standard unscented Chapstick brand Chapstick is my favorite right now, because it's 'doing no harm.' It won't make my lips softer if they are really dry, but if I put a thick layer on at night then I can really easily and gently buff the dry flakes away with a wash cloth in the morning. (I think Dr. Dray mentioned that hydrated skin exfoliates easier.) But if my lips are so dry that they're cracked and maybe even bleeding, then I would need to lather on the Chapstick all day for a few days in a row (with no buffing, or they would just bleed more) before they feel softer. It feels like it protects my lips and allows them to heal, like a liquid bandaid.
      If I want a hint of color I use the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm (which is SPF 15), or the Clinique Almost Lipstick.
      If I want more color, I love the Pixi Mattelustre Lipstick. (It's the lipstick, not the liquid lipstick, which I haven't tried).
      Those last 3 are ones that I already own, which I've noticed never dry my lips out, and none of them have limonene or linalool listed in the ingredients.
      Are there products that work especially well for you? If not, I hope you are able to find something you love!

    • @TheMzGraceful
      @TheMzGraceful 7 лет назад

      Cool. Thanks. I used to use the regular Chapstick way back when. Maybe I’ll go back to that and see how it works. :)

    I have hypothyroid (hashimotos) and everything about me is dry; hair, skin, eyes, etc. Somehow after all of these years with this disease and accompanying skin dryness, none of my doctors had told me about putting moisturizer on WET skin. Since you recommended it I've been doing it and my gosh it makes all the difference in the world. Vanicream cream on wet skin, it's a miracle. Thanks Dr Dray!!🙌💯 ETA: I've been having good luck with the Aveeno Skin Relief fragrance free body wash. It has cardamom extract way down at the bottom of the ingredients which worried me but it isn't bothering me so far. Not sure what that is even in there for.

      sometimes I don't mind if it's gentle like an aloe fragrance, but in real life aloes don't even have a fragrance. I know, I am a horticulturist by trade and run garden centers. I have taught horticulture as well. If you THINK you need fragrance, it's easier to add it afterwards, or better yet, do a spa experience if your nose desires fragrance and get an essential oil mister and put in a 2-3 drops of pure ORGANIC only..essential oil. I think the body craves essential oils or fragrance, there is a lot of books written on this subject matter between essential oils and emotional health. We've yet to see the full range of what chemical components..the alkaloids, the terpenes, etc. and what they can do to make us happy. To smell them is one thing, to put them on your skin is another. One thing I do like for myself, however, is rosewater with glycerine. I like this one from Bulgaria, from the Valley of the Roses. I put it in a mister and spritz it on after I wash my face, and there is the essential oil in a very dilute way to help the skin. Women in Europe have been using roses on the face forever, however, in an unscented cream base mixed with the rosewater is what I am talking about. I like almond or jojoba (wax) oil on my face.

    You are such an amazing resource! Chemo turned my skin to onion skin! My Oncologist recommended that I moisturize 2 x day but I began showering with Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash with Shea Butter and my skin stayed satiny smooth and comfortable. It has petrolatum as well as the shea butter and while it does have the dreaded fragrance, it did not irritate my skin at all. The Olay and CeraVe in the tub just worked wonders. I even used the tub of CeraVe on my face. I do not find the CeraVe Body Moisturizer to be at all greasy.
    Please, please, please do a video on dry facial skin. Thanks as always!

    I am not just dry, I am extremely dry, not to the point of flaking but to the point where water is problematic on the skin (dries it out). I use Nivea's blue tin cream for my day & night moisturizer and now that I'm 45, I am using a hyaluronic acid underneath it, and it really helps me out with combating the dryness and with plumping the skin. I am equally dry in winter as in summer. I have had this since I was a baby. At age 3, our family internist recommended sweet almond oil for my skin and I have used that for years, until I started using the HA. So a long long time! :) I am normal to dry on the limbs, especially the legs, and especially in winter to the more dry side, and I use the Nivea dark blue bottles (body lotion) for that. It's a nice product! For sure. :) Nivea is quite popular where I live (in Europe). We have few options for dry skin, that's for sure. I've tried the ones from the pharmacy, Vichy, La Roche Posay, and there is some kind of strong water base in them (which is a no-no for me).

I’m glad you mentioned it because I hadn’t heard of it before. I’ve been using the Cerave PM with the Differin Moisturizer on top because the Cerave isn’t moisturizing enough on it’s own for me. Now I can just use one Moisturizer!!!! Thanks for the list of recommendations:-). Hope you and your mom have a nice weekend!!!

    This is the first time I’ve commented, but I️ found your channel recently, and I️ have to say you are quite entertaining, and informative. I’m 33, on retin-a, and I️ have very dry skin. I️ haven’t been to the derm in a while since I️ most my insurance, but your videos are great! Because of you, I️ tried out the cerave line, and I️ absolutely love it! I’ve always bought super high end skin care, and some products in this line have kicked my old products out of the drivers seat. So thank you for helping me save some moneeeeeeey!

    Oh Andrea, every video I'm learning everything I've done over the years has been destroying my skin. I used to scrub with baking soda and a brush (to my face). I never had acne either. I thought that was a good way to rid myself of the dry skin on my face. YIKES. Live and learn.

    Hi Dr. Dray, recently found your channel while researching tretinoin and I LOVE your content. Thank you for being so detailed and thorough in your explanations. I have mild KP on my legs and thighs and I'm about to start using Amlactin 15%. At which point do I apply the lotion? Before CeraVe moisturising cream, while my skin is still damp? After, when my skin has dried? Or do I skip the CeraVe moisturising lotion altogether since Amlactin also has ceramides? Thank you! 😊❤

    17:53 I honestly find it quite strange why damp skin isn't enough, but I do have to agree applying moisturizer to completely wet skin because I have severely dry skin as I have eczema. I plan to completely wet my body before putting on moisturizer as an entirely wet face works with my Vanicream moisturizer.

    I’m in Florida and moisturizers just aren’t enough in dry season (winter)... you need a barrier, as well... that’s why they invented Shea butter and other oils. lol . Rub oil on as you rub off the water...
    If soap is too drying for you, try homemade natural cold processed vegetable soaps (superfatted) like us crafters make. It has the natural glycerine intact and is actually quite moisturizing... you can find it online and at farmers markets, etc...

    I like Vanicream Dr.Dray, you really helped me out with that, it got rid of my body psoriasis. Also... I had dry skin a long long time ago and it HIT ME... I realized you want to look for something that has at least 1% dimethicone as the active ingredient. This will prevent TEWL just like vaseline, but it's dermatitis-friendly, won't trap excess oils and sweat that cause this, especially if it's combined with sodium chloride and oatmeal that will prevent it. So...ding ding ding AVEENO to damp skin, the baby formula that only costs 7 bucks? Large tube. Apply once a day after a shower at night. Or if you really want to get the issue resolved, Moisturel Lotion with 3% Dimethicone. If you don't suffer fungal acne or forms of dermatitis, go.for Eucerin Original Cream. This is extremely thick, BUT doesn't have absorbent agents so you may get a rash, this is why I say Aveeno and Moisturel knock out the issue FAST. They fill the gaps between skin cells and make your skin elastic and comfy.

    Thank you for this video Dr. Dray! Your Skin Care Q&A from Feb.3,2017 popped up on the sidebar and at 0:46 you state "that mineral oil will clog your pores..." , but in this video you state it is "non-pore clogging." Which is correct?!

      at 0:46 you say, and I quote, "... however; you should avoid putting mineral oil and silicone based things on your face because mineral oil will clog your pores, essentially." I'm seriously not trying to be argumentative Dr. Dray, I'm just a stickler for details and would like a clarification. Appreciate your time and energy for sharing with us on you tube.

    I have very dry skin, and so many products these days seem to contain hylaurounic acid. But, I seem to be part of the subset of the population who experience extra dryness from this ingredient! It's so frustrating because it means that excellent products like the Cerave moisturizing cream leave my face feeling tight! Is this something you come across regularly? *Edit: The drying effect happens even after applying to wet skin!

      I noticed the same problem, I swapped to Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and then when I finish showered I have to use neutrogena hydroboost gel cream (no fragrance) which contains HA on wet skin, then I have a spray bottle of filtered water I spray skin again, then I apply cerave then I once again spray my skin with water. If you don't have any moisture in air or on skin then I notice Hyaluronic Acid will draw the water from your skin. You need plenty of water on. Also water temperature, humidity in your house, and air temperature as Dr. Dray can also have a massive impact. I have also noticed certain days of the month my skin is drier than others as my hormones fluctuate. If my skin is super dry and all of the above is still tight, then I apply rosehip oil as last step and up my water intake. I notice if I don't drink minimum 2L of water a day my skin definitely feels drier. I know there isn't a lot of data saying increasing water intake really impacts your skin but I notice personally it does make a big difference.

    Dearest Dr. Dray, as someone who only showers every other day (with lukewarm water and the tiniest amount of the mildest detergent I can find), I am always asking myself if I should be dissolving the remainders of SPF on my arms with a bit of a syndet or not. (Hyperhidrosis leads to my being sleeveless most of the time. So SPF 365 days a year. 😉) The skin on my arms is not super dry but surely requires some (fragrance-free) moisturisation.

    You mentioned that using soap/body wash isn’t good and it’s best to just wash off with water. My baby (both my kids have sensitive skin) skin has recently started to get “rough” and not “baby smooth” I do believe it’s because of the soap I am using. That said, do you think it would be best to use one of the soaps you listed or just wash her off?? I am in the process of finding a good lotion for her, so far I’m just using coconut oil.
