UPDATE: As of A20.1 loot tiers have shifted. They are as follows:
Tier 0 (1-41)
Tier 1 (42-101)
Tier 2 (102-191)
Tier 3 (192+)
After lootstage 290, you will no longer see changes to your loot. This is effectively the maximum lootstage, even if the game can display higher numbers.
Would you mind posting a link to a google doc to an updated lootstage graph with these figures, similar to what you had in the video at 10:05? Or do we just need to shift all tiers by the difference?
Good to know I'm just unlucky then lmao. In the Wasteland biome and inside a tier 3+ POI, my loot stage is 300, but the only level 6 gear I've found is from Trader mission rewards :/
so after max loot points it's only gameday that counts? I'm standin over 350 loot stage at day 45 (UL-mod) so I still need to wait 20+ more day to get max loot? I want to find that weapon that use .50cal

This is such a phenomenal breakdown. Really appreciate they way you approach things from both the data and mechanics side as well as a more practical application. I know personally I'm looking forwad to pushing into the more harsh biomes early game with lucky looter!
This makes day trips into the wasteland sound SO much more fun!
My friends and I haven't touched 7D2D since 2016/2017. We've gotten back into it recently and find your tutorials very helpful. I'm not a huge fan of long intros and outros but the way you section your videos and the large amound of effort that goes to them does not go unnocticed. Keep it up!

The lootstage boost from more difficult biomes seems very worth it, as long as the biome itself isn't going to kill you every time you step outside. I've found that you can get a lot of mileage out of putting level ups into a favorite ranged weapon perk and crafting a higher tier and quality than you have available to you.
This'll let you complete quests more easily, which means you'll have the dukes to buy things outside your ability to craft or find.
Agreed, focus on being a better fighter and the loot will follow
Survival first, loot second. You can't loot if you can't live.
That's something I noticed. My crafting level affects the loot and items traders offer.

Usually I have a lot of fun researching this stuff for myself, but I play so many early access games that change so much over time, videos like this are really useful. Great video! I was only looking for a little bit of information, but I got the whole kit and caboodle with this one! My friends and I just started a new game and as usual we plopped down close to where we started (forest), so I'll be looking to convince them to moving our base a bit closer to wasteland, or at least snow, for the 'free' lootstage bonus.

I definitely know what it takes man and you got It a while back I made Vr videos its not easy preparation
idk how you figured this out but this is amazing. Im day 60 ish in the wasteland with level 4 looter perk and ive found maybe 8 pink augers but i still havent found a pink steel pickaxe. I dont understand the math but great video!
and as i unpaused and watched another 30 seconds... i realized why i never found a pink steel pickaxe but keep finding augers, which is kind of annoying... so now knowing this, ill have to purposely lower my loot stage to hopefully find one. and i dont feel like doing the math, so i guess im stuck with the t5 steel pickaxe. again thanks for the video and im sorry by a21, all of your hard work done here will probably be obsolete lol

Huh the change to lucky looter is an interesting one. VERY handy if you want to minmax your loot potential by leaving the forest and heading for the snow or wasteland, and it just gets handier as you both level up and poi tier level up. Not so useful, at least early game, in the forest. But I like it. Last time it was barely useful for bumping to the next tier sooner in alpha 19 and for end game boosts to tier 3 loot quality and numbers. It might be worth putting points into once I get my primary build setup and am ready to spread out into supplementary skills.
I agree, if you're in the snow biome it's probably worth taking after you get some of the basic survival skills down
The file is an A19 spreadsheet, as you see _game_ stage is listed across the top, doesnt show loot stage. But the graphic does illustrate how tiers are layered
I remember in Alpha 19 at around game stage 100 or so, I'd still find a few level 6 blunderbuss' every day regardless of what POI I was raiding. I even found one inside a pile of trash in the middle of nowhere.
Perhaps the blunderbuss was considered its own weapon type and not necessarily a tech zero, not sure
really really glad I watched this video, was wondering why my item qualities were weird about numbers (t4 doing more damage than a t6 and the like)
Great video, I don't really try to Min./Max. my gameplay but having a good idea of how game mechanics work is very helpful. I quite often put a point into Lucky looter or salvage operations early game because even if they aren't great right away you will already have them when you pass a certain threshold and won't need to level up to start benefitting from them. Of course I usually build my character with Intellect as primary backed up with perception and fortitude because nothing beats a nerd with a machine gun and explosives.
Sounds like a fun loadout!
Side observation: I'm assuming that loot stage affects zombie drops, or "Z-packs". I wonder if you were settled near an alternate biome to the pine forest, if it would be "better" to build a horde base in that biome and acquire better loot through the zombie loot bags by morning versus if you were in the forest.
Fantastic analysis in this video, this obviously took many hours to create and test. We, the 7D2D community, thank you for your effort and time. :)
Loot stage affects the loot within z-packs but not the type of pack that is dropped. Things like feral wights, mutated, and lumberjacks can drop the blue bags, and demos can drop the red bags. So living in the snow or wasteland gives you higher probability of getting the better bags and you get better lootstage so better stuff in the bags too
@@GunsNerdsandSteel You said that snow/wasteland gives a "higher probability" of better bags. That's just in general, right - not for horde nights? I'm guessing horde nights still have the same general zombies depending on gamestage/night number regardless of biome, right?
I used to primarily skill Lucky Looter first, because of an older run where I only found busted gear for that stage. Now I know why that doesn't work anymore.

I somehow managed to skip over the pump shotguns in my run and found an auto shotgun. Good to know that it was because of location, level, and POI and not just me being insanely lucky

When I blew him up with dynamite he was airborne for a good 15 seconds 😆
I am not much for testing, but I got an idea in my head while at the trader turning in a quest and tried it out and it might be something worth testing. I am not sure if the contents are predetermined or random, but the loot packs you get from the trader seem to be affected by loot stage as well. I took the SMG pack from the trader in the green grass biome. Instead of just opening it where I was, I took it into the edge of the wasteland, put on lucky looter goggles, used an eye candy and opened it. I got a quality 6 SMG-5 and 300 rounds of 9 mil from the box. I was only level 27 at the time. So the packs might be awesome to store up and open in a higher tier biome, or it might have just been stupid dumb luck. Thought I would mention it for those who like to test such things.

I don't have a list. But you can tell by what kind of loot chest is at the end. The big hardened chest is a tier 5
Trader quests are op early game, i went from a level 3 pipe shotgun to level 6 double barrel day 5
