    Yesterday I replaced a starter on 2015 Elantra 1.8 L that has the same build and engine. All I did from the top was to disconnect the battery terminal nothing else. Every thing was done under the car. You need to jack up the car and remove the bottom splash shield that has four 10 mm bolts and few plastic clips that takes 10 minutes to remove and you see the starter above the oil filter with much easier access to remove the main 12v cable and signal connector to starter. Two 14 mm bolts are also easy to access, remove them and one 10mm bolt to detach the wiring harness bracket to make some room and starter comes out from the bottom without much effort. Please do your-self a favour and do it from the bottom to save time and effort.

    Good video. Mine has the click intermittently after I chased down charging issues and replaced Alternator. 271K miles and these are the first mechanical issues I have ever had. Been a great “RoadDog” for me.

    Thanks for the video. I had a 2014 Kia Forte starter replaced with a new Denso and I now have a grinding noise. Had the mechanic replace it with a 2nd new Denso and have the same grinding noise at startup. Any ideas? Did you go with the a dealer re manufactured starter?

    Wow! It takes 30 minutes and don't even to lift up the car!!! I could have done this MYSELF and I am on old man 68 years old!!!! My 2017 kia Forte has been sitting at Dyer Kia for EIGHT DAYS waiting for them to fix it. They say the starter costs $868.00 PLUS labor and a battery! Amazon has these starters for $90 bucks! Dyer Kia (here in Florida), is going to ream me for more than $1500 dollars I expect! They told me last FRIDAY (5 days ago), that it would be done tomorrow (Thursday). If they don't have it done, I'm going to have it towed to another shop, or I will do it myself. What a bunch of incompetent boobs they are. I wish I had seen your video BEFORE I had my car towed to the dealership. Thanks for a great video.

      Unless it's under warranty, I never take mine to a dealership anymore. They rob you blind!! I've had much better luck taking it to a private family owned small auto repair business. They're more honest & fair priced than any dealership.

    Great effort and for myself really I stepped back to do it.
    You choose the most difficult way to do it. The starter motor cannot be removed from below. The relatevily easiest way to get to it is to remove the air intake manifold completely out of your way.
    Some work can be done during this period to clean up the air intake ports and may remove some gunk out of the lifters.
    So, the change of the starter motor To be aside of job of cleaning.
    It will take very short time to change it.

    • @ibrahimeltony4865
      @ibrahimeltony4865 4 года назад +1

      @ThePariss333
      Oh you must have a hands and tools like a snake to do that 🐍
      Or you don't know this car model very well.
      Because if you do. You would have understand that this way is very difficult way to do it. That's why I really appreciated the effort so much.
      The other way around is to remove the intake manifold and deal with the starter motor directly. It will take minutes.

    • @ibrahimeltony4865
      @ibrahimeltony4865 4 года назад +1

      @ThePariss333
      Yes they are the same engine but the engine bay is different in kia forte. The Kia soul is wide enough to do it but in kia forte the radiator fan is very close to the engine.

    • @ibrahimeltony4865
      @ibrahimeltony4865 4 года назад

      @ThePariss333
      Sure..no problem. It's really challenging.
      engine mounts are much more difficult than the starter motor.
      But to give you a tip for the future. Regarding the engine mounts.
      On my experience in kia cerato/forte 2010.
      You can change the left and right and especially the front fairly easy.
      But the rear is really takes more effort. You have to loose both of the steering rack with it's links and the subframe to be able to get that rear engine mount out.
      Wish when you come to change it in Kia soul that you don't have to do it. to have a wide bay enough to pull it out without loosing the subframe.

    Any tips for lining up and starting the starter mounting bolts? I'm doing one on a 2013 Kia soul. Got the old starter out no problem. Put the new one in got the bott ok m bolt to start. Can't get the top one to start. I pulled the starter back out and checked the threads they are good. I'm going nuts trying to get this thing out of my driveway.
    By the way I did everything so far from underneath the car. Would taking the inlet stuff off make this any easier?

    Great video, I've been leasing a 2014 KIA FORTE EX, & wanted to ask a question please. Ive recently had work done to my car, alot actually, for the last 7-8 months straight. But most recently, I've had a new Alternator put in, & a new AC Line, or Compressor, something like that, I think the line actually. And also my window butttons werent working correctly, & was causing them to jam, or not stop moving, either up or down. And were just uncontrollable pretty much. So they fixed that problem to, as well. But not even a week after bringing it to the auto shop again due to it not starting, its still not starting, and keeps draining all the way to zero power, and usually my NOCO GENIUS BOOST GB40 12V 1000A charger/jumper does the trick, but tonite, I noticed that my car was unlocked, & there was no power to the point that I couldn't even unlock the doors with my key / alarm key. So I manually unlocked the car.
    Then, I proceeded to connect my NOCO GENIUS BOOST, to jump start it, & it didnt turn over this time. So I let it charge for like 10 minutes, thinking that it would help to charge it a little longer, & then when I tried again, it didnt work at all, & my NOCO GENIUS BOOST GB40 was completely drained dead?
    The last 4-5 days now, ive been starting it with my NOCO GENIUS BOOST, but tonite it wouldnt start, & my neighbor ironically was outside asking me if I wanted a jump, but thats a whole other story.
    Ive had suspicions that someone in my community has been messing with my car, on some real stuff, cause of what I've seen happen with this car for the past year now. I've literally spent about $4500 dollars on my car in the last year or less, give or take. And, some of the stuff I've noticed is extremely sketch, & doesnt add up, considering we dont really drive that often, & when we do, im very good to the car, always keep up with the oil changes & fluids, & I've been goin to the mechanic for months now, but yet it still isnt starting for me? I have a brand new battery, a brand new alternator, & it wont hold its battery power for some reason.
    The reason that im saying it wont hold power, is because I've been checking on it over nite, frequently lately, & theirs usually always a red blinking light, wich I believe is to the alarm, wich is useless... Lol. But, now even the red light isnt on, so its like the battery is completely dead? And, I can't seem to figure out what would be causing this to happen? Ive recharged the NOCO GENIUS BOOST GB40 again, & im about to try to start my car again, but have a feeling that it mite not start again. If you have any suggestions, it would be highly appreciated, thanks my friend.👍🙏😎

    I would like to understand why every single video on this topic makes you take half the car apart to reach the part. I changed mine from underneath and did not have to remove anything but the starter itself. The instructions helped me find where it is located etc, but someone please explain to me the benefit of removing air intake and a bunch of other stuff just so you can reach 2 feet into the car to remove a part near the bottom.

    • @chriscarpenter9127
      @chriscarpenter9127 2 года назад

      Same here , (2010 Forte Koup) Air tube & throttle body removal only to access starter bolts easier then starter down through the bottom. Definitely tight but manageable. I didn't mess with the 12vt cable or solenoid wire on the starter till it was out & hanging down as it was buried up under the intake manifold bolted in place. 40 minutes start to end. Each model has it's differences and what is or is not in the way.

    Please note! 2012 Kia Forte replacement of starter. I used three different aftermarket starters and all they did was free spin inside housing with no contact. Dealership had the correct part. If your having the same issue, consider calling dearship for parts as they are quite similar in prices.
