one word describes Michael kiwanuka for me, GENUINE!! I could listen to him talk endlessly as well as listen to his music.
The legend finally won a Mercury Prize. *CONGRATULATIONS* to Michael.
I love the album! It has strings, epic short guitar spacey solos, it's dramatic yet gentle and easy, it's open to love, hope and vulnerability! Groovy and totally dance floor hits on some songs like "You ain't the problem" and "Rolling" and then like a fuse of all that on a third song "I've been Dazed". Things start to slow down and we have a interlude that flows perfectly into "Piano Joint" . It's really sweet, my friend told me "It's quiet sad actually" on the first listen. I thought about it too, as "Hero" has its interlude song too, followed by a 7 minute epic "Hard to say Goodbye" - I feel like Kiwanuka opens up so much! His fears, the angst and the sense of alienation in people, lack of understanding. But with the music being this big, rich and warm, I can't say that it's sad! It's brave! My favorite thing in music is a mix of vulnerability and braveness, both lyrically and musically! Look at me being a critic, but my point is maybe that - it's full of hope! Perfect for november!
