    I ordered mine with the titanium nib when you posted about the sale. Although every steel Bock nib I’ve ever used has been dry out of the box and sometimes really futzy to tweak, the titanium haven’t been: they have been great, springy writers. Looks awesome in this pen, too.

  • @osirisgolad
    @osirisgolad 2 года назад +3

    Yeah, cheers for the heads up on the discount. I would never have taken the plunge without that crazy price reduction because I've loathed every pocket pen I've tried, even though I've been actively looking for one for the past ten years. There are so many little things they could've done to ruin the pen, but to me, it's simply perfect.
    I also widened the tine gap before I even inked the pen, but I have just come to expect that over the years with mass manufactured nibs; especially fines and mediums. It's obviously a fair demand to want it to write well out of the box, but I've just given up on it over the years to save myself the frustration.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад +3

      Yup like I always say, we can get mad about it or learn how to spend 2 minutes tweaking it. Also, some might like a dryer pen and some like 'em wet. So its good to know how to do little adjustments to get it just right for the way you like it.

    • @osirisgolad
      @osirisgolad 2 года назад

      @@Doodlebud Exactly, the wetness is not going to be perfect for everyone even if it's perfectly consistent. The thing that does often annoy me is overpolishing, even though I can correct it myself. It's simply a defect, and it shouldn't make it out of the factory in that state. If it's extreme, it's also going to change the shape of the tipping a bit, so you're losing a bit of the "house style" of the grind as it was intended by the manufacturer. Might as well get a custom grind at that point.

    Thanks so much for alerting us to this astonishing deal! I happened to be writing with mine when I noticed your video came up. I still can't believe how cheap it was 😀 I find it writes well with no fuss. My only issues with it are very minor niggles, like the flare on the section being a bit abrupt. That's more to do with how I hold a pen than the design or build.
    Incidentally, the Gravitas pocket pen is the next in my sights when I get some money...

    Great review! I didn't notice the micro-threads on the section until you mentioned them.Thanks for the heads-up re: this titanium version. I placed my order, waited patiently and was not disappointed in any way with this pen. Thank you, Ensso, for putting a *full-sized* nib on this pocket pen; I wish every pen company did that! I don't mind the barrel end threads but I found them a wee bit sharp...not dangerously so, but it's my only knock (and it's a minor one). I hope you find the aluminum version of this pen -- maybe your kids are using it lol.Side note: I've noticed that you always cap and uncap your pens by holding the barrel and twisting the cap--I do the opposite. 😉

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад +2

      Full sized nib is neat to have on a small pen like this. There are a few other brands that do the same, my Gravitas pocket does and Schondsgn as well off the top of my head; Im sure there are other brands too. The micro grooves do make a welcomed improvement on the section as grip can be an issue on metal pens. I uncap both ways but on camera its tricky to do as I'm essentially working around my phone which is sitting on a tripod in front of me. I sort of have to "bear hug" as I record. I have a less an ideal setup to record videos and something as simple as spinning the cap can be tricky when I'm having to do everything at such awkward angles, including trying to do nice writing 😂

    • @majajamie
      @majajamie 2 года назад +2

      @@Doodlebud I have the Gravitas pocket pen on my pen-buying radar. I thought the cap-spinning might have had something to do with the camera placement. You, out of any YT pen reviewers, do *the* best job of showing us close-ups, so thanks for that! 👍

    Always appreciate your take on pens, DB, but in this case I didn't wait for your review because I joined the Kickstarter pre-order & was very pleased to receive the Ti Piuma (with TI fine nib) in early April. Am very impressed with hand feel & can use posted Piuma for long writing sessions. I have Ensso Italias in Cu and Ti, both with steel nibs, but really like the Ti nib. Like you, Ti is has become my metal of choice. My only problem was Piuma feed leaked badly upon arrival, so I pulled nib & feed & reinstalled firmly, and that stopped hemorrhaging, even when carried all day in pants pocket. Maybe I unseated the section with install of cartridges, which I don't usually use.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад +2

      Yeah sometimes it doesnt take much for the nib & feed to be out to cause a leak. Good to hear you're enjoying the pen. There's just something about Ti that I really like with a pen

    • @carlharrison9503
      @carlharrison9503 2 года назад +1

      Exactly the same with mine. I should have re-tightened the feed and nib. I placed a cartridge in
      and notice the maybe around the feed was the area of the leak. DB can fix those small problems but I can not.
      He suggested contacting ensso if the problem continued and it seams to have subsided. yay! fingers crossed Thanks DB write now Oh yeah, there are 5 left in TI

    So i'm an aerospace engineer and i work a lot with titanium, it is always the most expensive material as the machining tolerances are tight, as well as just having a higher raw cost than steel/alu. I wonder if I can ask for some scrap titanium to mess with.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад +2

      Fortunately this one is a pretty basic part. In aerospace the part design & required precision are so tight. Strength vs weight must be a big design consideration. Ti definitely wears out tooling quicker.

    1. A perfect little pen. I particularly love elegantly simple metal pens that both cap and post flush to the barrel. Makes me wonder why aren't all pens designed that way.
    2. If you had two, you could post the cap of one on the other for a complete cigar.
    3. I used to want a titanium bicycle but I'm not as stupid as I look.

    Do you find Gravitas pocket back weighted when posted because the cap is heavy

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад

      I like them both a bunch, don't know if one is a favorite over another. The gravitas model I have is back-weighted but doesn't bother my as it rests nicely in my hand. If that is a concern for you, you can get it in aluminum so it won't be an issue. Ensso is a very nice pen. Its a bit wider so I like that as well. Only challenge with ensso is the availability of pens. Have to jump on an order quickly when they become available as they get scooped up fast. If you miss it, you might have to wait a while.

    Greetings from Australia.
    I enjoyed your video thanks very much for posting it.
    I'm not sure where the terminology for this type of pen comes because all my full size pens are pocket pens. I carry two of my favourite woods in a leather pouch in my jeans pocket.
    But I do have two short lipstick type pens. The PenBBs 471 eyedroppers are great pens with size 6 nib. Great writers. Have you reviewed those yet?
    Just off subject what do you think about wood pens?
    This is a very slippery road!!!
    I have a collection of about 20 in woods of the world and I'm still collecting.
    These are all made made here in Australia in Churchill kit pen form but doesn't bother me at all. There is something very distinguished about wooden pens. Just a few names: Mexican Royal Ebony, Honduras Rosewood Burl, African Bloodwood Burl, Red Amboyna Burl etc. These are really classy pens. A very slippery expensive road indeed. Sorry to digress.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  2 года назад +1

      Yes, any pen can be a pocket pen. Typically a pocket pen is one that is shorter, compact, and isnt carried in a case. Also its usually one that can resist getting all scratched from items in your pocket or one you don't mind if it does.
      Haven't tried the PenBBS 471 yet or any wood pens. I do have a Faber Castell Ondoro with the wooden barrel but thats about it so far. Haven't been overly interested in wood pens yet but I imagine at some point there will be one that catches my eye.
