Hi Emy. Thanks again for this great video. I love Gravitas Pens. I do own the Sentry in Raw Copper, the Pocket "Skull" in Brass and the Quark UP in Zirconium which is an amazing pocket pen -extremely small but full size when posted. A few months ago I bought a Gravitas, the Ultemate Vac. Ben used his unique combination of engineering and design is nothing short of amazing.
I do love pocket pens for all the reasons you mention, Emy. I do not yet own a Gravitas pocket pen but am very happy with my ensso titanium. In my EDC fountain pens there are always 2 Pocket pens ( 2 Montblanc Boheme ( Black Roby and the Doué Ligne) ). And I love them and use them at meetings at work. But also when I am writing at home. I also have the Kaweco Al Sport, Liliput and the Supra. I use them not often but the Montblanc Boheme are always with me. Greetings from the Netherlands.

As long as it is able to be posted so that when it is in use it is normal size I love them. The pen can be with me at all times. It is the "grab and go" pen. Pens like the Kaweco Liliput or the Pilot e95 just speak to me "carry me everywhere, I am ready when you need me". The Schon Design Pocket Ultem is light and indestructible is another favorite. The Gravitas looks nice as well. Great post!

Despite the fact that I crave big and oversized pens (At least in the future, I have none right now) pocket fountain pens are amazing.
    - Biochemistry Student
    - So a lot of time is spent at the clinical lab
    - My pocket pen is made out of Ultem plastic (Thanks Schon DSGN)
    - No worries if I spill blood or chemicals on it, and it is easy to clean
    - Also fits my small pocket perfectly and allows me to take notes or sign stuff faster
I can't remark enough the fact that the plastic is amazing because if I drop blood or any other potentially pathological fluid on it, I can pretty much dip it in bleach to prevent any further contamination / clean it up

12:45 I heard that pens with metal parts should not be eyedroppered because the inks could cause corrosion. However, Gravitas pocket Ultem and Quart appear to have metal nib sections.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  5 месяцев назад +1

think logic... if a metal pen is not allowed to be eyedropper converted - how come a pen with a metal (not gold) suppose to work being submerged and always in contact with ink ?
Let me give what I know from experience - this rule with inks being corrosive it has to do with vintage times where iron gall inks where very corrosive and very permanent while being in use with cheap steel nibs, in our days we are having less use if not none iron gall inks and modern coatings like rhodium plating, ruthenium and may others that simply protect the nib from the corrosive nature of inks that are not iron gall. While Im not a huge fan of eyedropper conversion other than when it comes from ebonite pens that are meant to be eyedropper like the Emperor / Danitrio and many others... im not a huge fan because of how temperamental they get in use, but as far as pens of ben made from stainless steel and aluminium with good quality coatings... you can go to town and eyedropper convert all of them, it may work a bit inconsistent (sometime wet, sometime dry ... sometime just perfect and sometime not at all) but ill be safe to eyedropper convert them

Kaweco are very comfortable but ink capacity is effectively an issue, I tried using it at uni, first with a converter (which lasted exactly 2 hours before needing a refill) and then with cartridges (one cartridge got me through a day, two on a slow one with little notetaking), this pen will leave you hanging when you need it most.
The piston version was a very decent alternative but the price was excessive, especially when there is so much competition for half of it, heard Kaweco is planning more piston models, if they manage to keep it in the 40-60 euros price range, it might be an hit.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  2 месяца назад +1

Yes pocket pens have this small ink volume that they come with them - there are ways to make up more ink volume but most of the times it involves eyedropper conversions

@@pen.venture There are pocket piston pens like the Twsbi mini and the Pelikan m200 that hold 1.3ml of ink, that is a pretty respectable amount even for a full size pen, I guess that there isn't much of a market for them, a shame because pocket pens are my favorites.

Despite my disappointment with my Ultemate Vac, I have been looking at the Gravitas pocket pen in titanium (my favourite metal, and currently out of stock). However, one thing concerns me is that reviews say posting this pocket pen will mark the body as the cap will be metal on metal.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  4 месяца назад

Well - in this case you can go with titanium because I'll be the one more resistant to this marks that develop. Anyway I can tell you from experience with my stainless steel one, its not as evident as it may sound, while being carried the pen itself gets scratched and scuffed all over, at least mine did and how I use it, so it would not look any different if it would be not touched by the cap... when you hear it or see it being mentioned "metal on metal" it sounds actually serious but in person its not that relevant, the inner part of the cap is machined to a even finish and the threads are further in the cap so its not that relevant

    Hello Emy,
Thank you for another great video. Like you, my pocket pens are in a category of their own. They can’t compare to my very high end fountain pens, but what they might lack in some department they make up in practicality and functionality so definitly a YAY!
I only use my pocket pens when I am on the go. It means that my pocket pens need to be able to address multiple scenarios and be a all in one kind of pen. I use them from journaling to signatures whenever required and they serve as a backup pen when I am at the office if I run out of ink.
I mostly revolve around the Kaweco realm, owning an AL Sport raw in medium, a fireblue Supra in Fine (with the middle section removed) and a 1970 vintage Sport with a 14k Fine, but I also have a Pilot E95s in Fine.
As a general rule, I don’t like to post my pens and since it is a must when it comes to pocket pens, I definitely prefer friction cap to screw cap. Screw caps take longer to post/unpost, you can mess up the threads and the metal ones often squeal.
Considering all that, I need my pocket pens to be very reliable, robust, inktight and relatively affordable if the worst should happens and I lose it somewhere. Once, I forgot my AL Sport in my jeans pocket when doing the laundry. The seal is so well made that apart from the nib hosing ink inside the cap during the cycle, nothing got stained and I ended up with a super clean pen ;-).
As you said, the roll stop is very important on those pens. I did purchase the optional clips for my modern days Kawecos, but in the end they don’t really add much to the pen except unnecessary volume and weight. The Supra being a round pen I dare not remove the clip for fear of an accident.
I am looking forward to see what that new collaboration with Gravitas will bring!!!!

Just came across your channel for the first time. Thanks for this video and nice display of Gravitas pocket pens. I like the flex nib. You don’t see that very often on a pocket pen.
For me a fountain pen needs to be a good sturdy and practical work horse that comforts in writing. They may look used.
For over 10 years I used an Ohto Tasche but that has become too slim for me.
I have a Kaweco sport AL Raw, a couple of Opus 88 Fantasia with great ink capacity and a TWSBI mini.
A size 6 nib is not a must have on a pocket pen for me.
Being work horses in an industrial environment I don’t tend to spend too much on the pens either. €100 would be to steep for me.

I do have my eye on a some additional models someday, including a pocket something or other. I have an AL Sport that I use a lot when traveling or just going out to some place where I may need to sign something (like you do). I have two Pilot pockets, an Elite 95 and a Prera. The Elite 95 is very nice; the Prera is just a nice, cheap small, pen, but both of them, like the Kaweco, never dry out and are always ready when I need them (unless they're out of ink!). :) I could let the Prera go, but I'm keeping the E95 and the AL Sport.

Warning: My comment has become outrageously long; SORRY
    There are coincidences...
I came across your YT channel because I was very hesitant about converting my POCKET PEN. When I bought my first pocket pen through a Kickstarter campaign, I felt about the same as you did here (at least that's how I interpret it): I was thrilled! I especially like the fact that all sorts of pockets are different from many other fountain pens. From my perspective, it makes them unique. I consider them exclusive, even though I can't afford the luxurious, exclusive writing instruments. I really like the Namisu company.
The story of Namisu seems to me to be the exact opposite of the story of Gravitas. Instead of Ireland they produce in Scotland. I've been to both countries and Ireland can be compared to Scotland in terms of landscape. They also speak a Celtic language in both countries, which I like...
As far as I know, Namisu writing instruments were created by machine operators who initially (my personal opinion) didn't have that much design or rather a rough design in the form of a metal tube.
Why not, metal fountain pens are always somehow metal tubes. Or?
The design of the N1 really appealed to me. At first I was a little skeptical as to whether posting with the O-rings wouldn't lead to a wear problem over time. So far this has never been a problem and it always closes very reliably like it did in the beginning. They no longer produce the N1, but the N2 was brought onto the market. The only difference between the N1 and the N2 is that the N2 writes with a size 6 Bock nib. In contrast to the N1, which requires a size 5 nib. At best you can also use a size 6 there.
They also work with a small converter; The one for the Kaweco Sport.
Since I am so impressed with the pocket size pens, I couldn't hold back and absolutely had to buy the Namisu Nova Pocket. In terms of design, it is very similar to the Gravitas. Almost too much.... It has a screw mechanism for posting. I almost fell in love with this one, it's so beautiful... I have it in Titanium with the Petrol finish. As an option I have a size 6 Bock spring, also made of titanium.
What I really like about both Namisu Pockets: It doesn't always make sense to use a fountain pen. I've also heard that fountain pens are not very popular at work, for example for taking notes for a protocol. The N1, N2 and the Nova Pocket can be converted into a ballpoint. To do this, simply unscrew the front tip and purchase the associated accessories. This means I can also use my fountain pens as a ballpoint and there is no need to change cartridges.
I am completely convinced of the Nova Pocket and that's why a Gravitas also has a hard time with me. Although after visiting the homepage I almost fell into the state of being unable to resist anyway...
The only criticism I have with the Nova Pocket is the fact that the small Kaweco converter doesn't fit either because it is too long. Only a small cartridge remains. Or a conversion as an eyedropper. As mentioned, I'm still a little hesitant because the space available for the ink isn't really that big, even as an eyedropper. I imagine refilling would be inconvenient. This despite the fact that I am absolutely not afraid of inky fingers.

Pocket pens are great tools regardless how one is judging them - btw :D no problem at all with a long comment :)) after all - we are here to talk pens
We love pocket pens, they come with some advantages and disadvantages but in the end - the sheer joy of having something small everywhere with you, inked and ready to go - is weighing more than having it writing for 10 pages + / so like with all things in life - its about trades, you trade the ink volume for the portability aspect.

@@pen.venture I just realised a important fact in regards of pen owners. A luxury fountain pen is meant for a duration of „rest-of-life-long“. No need of another fountain pen, no need to change after a certain while.
I’m more the owner who collects pens throughout different brands. No problem to change them, no problem to carry them. My personal aim is it to own pens who are different from each other. In this area a capless or a pocket or a eyedropper-piston (idk if „piston“ is the correct English word, but you probably know what I mean), are different from „only“ different in materials and design. It gives them a certain „one more“ feature in need to jump into all pen collections.
BUT it’s all about money. The price tag is in need to be let’s say under EUR 200. That’s another market and I would pretend it’s an exiting market with a lot of room for new creations.

Hi, nice video, thanks ! KAWECO Sport is a nice and handy pocket pen especially the AL line. I'd never use a plastic one as an EDC. However in my view the Sport is a sub-optimal design. If the body was cc 15 mm longer than it could accommodate the long, double capacity cartridges from Pelikan/Herbin/Online, and it would be also way more comfortable to use unposted. The size increase from 105mm to 120mm doesn't matter in my pocket/bag. I think if size really matters than the KAWECO Lilliput line is a better choice.
I never used Gravitas, but from the video I think it is very similar to KAWECO, so the same notes apply.
Maybe I'm too utilitarian on the go, but I don't need size 6 flex nib in an EDC. I rarely sign documents, but when I do I use ballpoint pen due to the durability of the ink. The same for postcards. On the go I mostly write into my own spiral notebook and I prefer if the pen or mech. pencil can be inserted into the spiral.
Of course in the office I can afford and demand more comfort/luxury but that area is above the compromised EDC world :)

18:24 wow this Flex nib is gushing ink when writing too fast.

Yup it does - comes with some downsides in that if you shake the pen it has ink droplets making their way in the cap but with such a nib/feeder you cannot have them all in one

Ben is a genius BUT he is a mess at the same time when it comes to delivery and replacements. I love his products but hate to wait for them. As quick as he answers customer requests by social media as slow he sends stuff around within Europa. I am very much looking forward that your will be taking care of his logistics. I bill be able to be buy more stuff from his workshops than.

:D being a genius comes with its pros and cons :D nevertheless I think if we team up, pen venture can offer a very stable and quick to act platform when it comes to gravitas being sold to everyone, this way Ben can focus on making the very best pens and the most crazy designed ever :D

I agree by 200%. I guess he passed the phase of starting a one man business and needs logistics. I am quite sure that he will come up with even more innovative stuff as soon he doesn‘t have to spend his time by printing labels and preparing packaging
