  • The Namisu Nova is a very nice sculpture, which is also a pretty decent pen. Not perfect, and not great for everyday carry, but very pretty, and pretty good.

May I recommend a look at the TWSBI Micarta - it looks just like that Namisu but made from Micarta. Sadly now discontinued but a great writer and looker.

Weird, mine didn't come with the leather sleeve (although there is an option for it on the site for £12 extra).
As for the finish, I think the stonewashed model would hide those scratches quite nicely. Although the nib is still an issue...

“...They say this cap not meant to be posted. Let’s post it. And it scratched the pen. ...”
This pen not meant to be thrown on concrete by the way. Have you tried it?

great review of a cool looking pen Nick

Nick. I think your problem with Bock comes from your attraction to these prople who specialize in machined pens (not nibs). I highly recommend the pilot metal falcon (again). Amazing writing experience in a metal body. I'd offer to send you my falcon, but I only have the resin version (not a super durable edc).

Nick Shabazz bocks can be great too, but they need proper tuning. Might I suggest that you also consider sending one of your underperforming bocks over to someone like Dan Smith (the nibsmith on RUclips) to have it tuned or even reground into something more interesting? This would be a relatively inexpensive way to get your writing performance to match the machined excellence of these pens.

And therein lies the problem... Honestly, I'm just trying to grift you into investing in a .6 stub or a cursive italic for my amusement.

I have never found a smooth metal grip section to be comfortable. But as I have RotRing Core Eternium in my pocket this week, almost anything is a good pen in comparison.

don't buy a clipless titanium pen with a bock nib that isn't meant to be posted and then complain about the lack of clip, the titanium finish, the damage caused by posting, the bock nib...for people like me who like this sort of thing and follow directions, it's annoying to hear someone complain about stuff they were warned about ahead of time.

Stoney Lonsome he initially presented this as a knife, I think Nick has a problem.

Craig Lachman I have no counter point for that. Perhaps I should try to counter with a nib?

With $100 pen you definitely shouldn't have to do that, but you pay mostly for the materials.

Pens get lost SO easily that there's no chance hell I would ever spend $100 on one. Even like $20 is pushing it. Then again I don't work at a high class office or anything like that. Even if I did I still feel like I'd have a REALLY hard time justifying that purchase. This is just me though.

Expensive pens and other writing utensils is definitely a fairly niche area, sorta like expensive watches. There are a lot of very inexpensive pens and watches that do their job 100% perfectly, but there are qualities of the expensive ones that they just don’t meet. For a great writing pen that is also super cheap, I’d highly recommend the Pilot G2.

    • @cameronutt6383
      @cameronutt6383 6 лет назад +1

Jared Kong Very true. Ive heard great things about the pilots, but chances are I can't just buy them in small town Washington so I'd have to order them, and to make it worth my time I'd have to order several. Finding ink refills also might be tricky where I live.
I don't really do watches either, I've joked before that my "Mickey mouse special" tells me the time just fine. I also have a Walmart watch that cost me like $60 ish and it looks nice and has a few nifty bells and whistles besides telling time, so I don't really see the spendy watch hype there, especially when I most often just check my phone cause I'm on it a lot already.
I don't cheap out on my knives though, however, I do believe in the curve of diminishing returns and adhere to what works for me as a user and collector.
Been thinking about getting a nice flashlight and good multi tool though.

you see that's the funny thing, I always used to lose my pens, but then i got a fountain pen and i stopped losing my fountain pens for some reason. They're so nice to write with and you payed more for them, you get to customize them with your own ink. I now have something like 20 fountain pens (most expensive one is 40 dollars) and the worst I've done is break the cap on a Jinhao, which can be had for... two dollars? about the same as going to the campus bookstore to pick up a pen, so nbd. The utility and joy they bring is well worth it.
