Path of Achra is a shitton of fun.
I’ve been following this games development for a loooong time. The dev is great and truly cares about this game and the people playing it. It’s a labor of love.
I grabbed this today, played for like an hour, and watching this while I make dinner... I have things he doesn't have, and he has things I don't have. That's the mark of a really cool game, because I assume they have conditions, and aren't random.
Very "niche" focused indeed. I believe 30+ year old folks are gonna enjoy this more than the newer generations. I myself am 40, and I used to play a lot of DOS games. This "Achra" game reminds me of those older ones, but the graphics already feel even more recent, close to the 1985 titles even. Wanna see a game thats raw 1980? "The Sargosian Abyss". That one reminds me a lot of this Achra title, but the graphics do manage to emulate primordial DOS games very realistically.
Going home and getting this! I feel like this scratches the what if build itch. Now if meta currency let you pick a weapon/armor for a run to make a build as well. Then make it infinitely variable.
Bought it today, it’s amazing. 8th play through I beat the game, my guy was attacking 10 times per turn and proc-inc a bunch of effects and heals. Purely by luck got the subclass for a bunch of speed. Anyway HIGHLY suggest this amazing game
As a former 100% Berliner (I'm reformed nowadays) I thought the game looked graphically absolutely fantastic. Just like you said: at least it's not ASCII! Oh and for everyone reading this and wondering what is ASCII: This is ASCII. All of these signs you see here are ASCII as are all the special signs you can write like @ [ ] ( ) * ? ! etc. So it's basic letters and symbols you can create with your keyboard right now. Heck, with a lot of modern keyboards being just digital things on a phone screen, you can do more graphical stuff with your keyboard than what ASCII allows.
Oh boy. I'm excited for this one. Qud and Rune Wizard are great games to pull influence from in this genre. I hope this ports to the Steam Deck alright b/c I'm super into it.
You mentioned roguelike and Tales of Maj'Eyal and Caves of Qud. I suck so bad at Caves of Qud that I think someone could make a parody video about "how NOT to play", but, the former games I don't suck at. Bought it as soon as you mentioned the comparisons. To sort of signal boost build variety, as I'm playing through the game currently, I just happened upon a poison puke build... basically puke on the enemy until they're dead and get healed from the puke. The idea is that you puke on adjacent tiles, things get poison damage from the puke, and you get healed. This is one of 3 games of current gen that I've played where puking has a purpose other than as a side effect of drinking too much (shadows of doubt).
"every time you dodge an enemy, lightning explodes from your butthole and explodes 25 enemies"............im sold, bought the game and now to watch the rest of this video
Been on a big rougelite/rougelike kick lately and the genre was starting to get a bit stale. This game is like a breath of fresh air. Completely unique with so many interesting & highly customizable builds. Thanks for this video, I would have otherwise missed out on this gem. And for what it's worth I think the graphics look great and totally fit the style. Reminds me of NEO Scavenger - another great game with an old-school pixel look
@@estherbloem2947 Weird this one looks pretty bad too. Bad UI/UX design, that is, which is a marker of quality in most cases. I'd buy it if it were $2.99 like Grim Nights. Somehow I doubt this is the same level of quality as Cruelty Squad though.

I really love games like Caves of Qud and titles like this as it gives the user a chance to use their imagination. But this works better when you have rich text to read. Such as combat logs and descriptor text of places and things. Without any text it really pushes past the limits of what I deem acceptable with such low graphics. Once this game adds some text and flavor to it I will pick up this title. Until then it will sit in my wish list. I am one of these kinds of people who feel that high end graphics can take away from our imaginations and ability to see these things within our minds eyes. Yet there is a limit to these things. Our minds must be primed with just enough to kick start those imaginations. Text and rich story are the primer. This title rn lacks that proper priming. Also not knowing you are on fire or have DOT effect on you is just lazy programing at worse. At best it is just one guy doing all this. One man has limits.
