    I just had my MX4 with Bak Box2 toolbox installed on GMC today. The store wanted to sell me the G2 saying it was just as good because the MX4 was on backorder but I didn't like g2 being made of lighter material and having to open it to close tailgate since the seal overlaps. I love look and function of MX4 but anything is better than the raggedy bowed torn vinyl Lund cover I had previously. Thanks for honest review.

    You may want to try some black paste shoe polish in one of those flat cans. Rub a little on, let it soak in and then rub off the excess with a soft cloth. It probably won't get it all out but probably look anywhere from 40 to 80 percent better.

    I have what I’m sure is a Bak on my 2014 F-150 that I purchased from Ford when I bought it in 2014. The roof does have a couple dings where I’d parked it under an Oak one night in a campground and acorns struck it. It’s not that bad at all. Anyway, I loved and still love the cover. I’d spray it with 303 in the warmer months to prevent any fading. Whether it would have faded or not without it? I cannot say but it hasn’t faded any over the last 8+ years. It does have a few scratches though. Be nice if they made a touch up stick
    Now, last week I bought a Tundra 1794 model that came with the same cover. It looks sharp and they’re so easy to raise and lower. I do plan on removing it during summer months to put topper on for camping trips. How nice it can be removed and replaced so easily

    I put a Bakflip HD on my 2010 f150. After 2 years the top layer separated from the core material. Eventually holding rain water and causing the entire surface to lift away. Though I didn’t have much leaking, if any, I can’t stand the edge seals.
    Two weeks ago I sold my truck. By then, most of the cross members had separated and corroded away from the shell.
    Two things NOT to do with it; don’t let the top slam shut, and if you live in a hot climate like I do, don’t power wash it.

    For the rubber that goes around outside of the backflip, I had to silicone the ends that fit over the aluminum channel. Another problem is my tailgate would not open and there’s no way of opening the backflip without destroying the rubber seal that goes along the tailgate. Would I buy it again absolutely not.🤷‍♂️

    I've had my BakFlip MX4 about the same length of time and I've had the same issue with the paint finish wearing off that you report. One of the plastic clips broke (male portion) after having the cover about two months and BakFlip wouldn't honor the warranty. I've yet to find a clip anywhere that fits the female part correctly. I used blue loctite on those rods. They don't come loose anymore but those flimsy plastic cradles they rest in when not being used are junk. I fabricated two out of copper pipe clamps and dipped them in Plasti-Dip. No more issue. For the money they charge for these covers, they should offer better hardware, paint job and stand behind their product. All minor issues and the cover still performs fine but it could fantastic if just a little more care went into the manufacturing of these things.

    Your rear water leakage into the bed may be through your tailgate step; which was an issue that I had. Rain etc was entering through the top of the tailgate/tailgate step into my bed. And then freezing where I couldn't open the tailgate. I also had a Bedrug installed.

    • @NSQGarage

    I know this video is 5 years old now, but I'm still going to throw my two cents in about the F1 cover he talks about towards the end of the video. Yes it has an amazing gloss finish and is fiberglass reinforced...but it's junk. It looks good at first but a year later it's dull and the surface actually cracks and splits. I've replaced 3 lids under warranty for this reason in a matter of 2 1/2 years. I went to warranty this last F1 Lid and they recommended the MX4 lid this time around instead. I just installed it this morning and to be honest...I don't have any faith that it will be any better. I guess time will tell. They say their F1 is their top of the line cover...it's garbage.

    Does it rattle or make any noise when completely folded up? How about when down? How many inches of space does having this install block off even when Ford is completely up

    • @NSQGarage
      @NSQGarage  Год назад

      Great questions. I haven't noticed any rattling. The only thing would be those little support rods pop out of their cradles on really rough roads. I would say there is about 6 inches of lost bed space when it's folded up.

    Hi...Nice review. Really appreciate it. Is the cover made of aluminium? is that why it scratches easily? thanks.

    • @NSQGarage
      @NSQGarage  5 лет назад +1

      You are correct. It is made of 2 layers of aluminum with foam or something in between. Thats why I recommended the fiber max because it is a different finish. A little more glossy but not as thin

      Probably the fibermax or equivalent. If there was a way to open it without lowering the tailgate (and still being theft resistant) that would be nice. When I have my trailer hooked up, I often find myself having to slightly open the tailgate to get into the bed

      The biggest drawback is that you lose visability. The stabilizing rods keep it pretty secure. I think it may take up slightly less space horizontally than a roll up.

    If you're that worried about scratching *a bed cover* then don't get a bed cover. You've got a spray in liner that could survive a thermonuclear blast, so why set items on your bed cover? It's a cover, not a shelf. Just my 2 cents. Truck and cover look great.
