…brother lol this is *not* the first time we’ve seen slo-mo in Star Wars. They used it when Luke cut off the Wampa’s arm, the entire encounter with “Vader” in the Cave of Evil on Dagobah was slo-mo, the Luke and Kylo flashback in TLJ, Rey and Kylo vs the Praetorian Guards, Grogu stopping the flamethrower in Season 1 of the Mandalorian, Tech’s death in Bad Batch, OBI-WAN’S DEATH IN LITERALLY THE FIRST STAR WARS MOVIE lol the list goes on and on. This isn’t even one of those things where you can say “it’s just my opinion”; you’re just wrong about the facts and using it to be negative.
You are completely right and it shows his agenda in full daylight.
Theory is just plain b*tching nowadays. The slowmo was to communicate how fast Sol is, but this dude is a friggin purist to a fault.
His critiques are getting less thoughtful as time goes on. On top of all this he uses GL saying maul is the first time the Sith *ever* revealed themselves to the Jedi to discredit the acolyte, but makes no mention of the entire fucking eu going against that as well (Revan, malgus, bane, etc etc etc)
And ontop of that says the martial arts doesn’t fit Star wars yet makes no mention of it being incorporated in the prequels.

Obi-Wan’s death was in slow motion lol it’s literally been around since the first movie. People love making excuses as to why all of the old ones are okay, but this ONE in particular? Strictly unacceptable lol buncha morons.
Technically Legends already didnt follow Lucas’ words bc Legends had the first Sith Lord as from the Sith race and first fallen Jedi to become a Sith Lord wasn’t until later
AMEN!. Legends was approved by Lucas but it was rarely limited by him. All kinds of ideas and stories that i´m sure did not have him involved at all, yet some people always love to give the very same couple of examples of when he did as if to say: "SEE?, George was on board, he gave final word on Dark Empire and used Coruscant on the prequels". Yeah my brother in Christ, I would love to see his reaction to the Vong, The Black Fleet Crisis or some of the Legacy comics.
Does every new Star Wars project really need to be exact same as what was made 20 and 50 years ago? Like no innovation, no trying something new or original? Not even slow motion, one of the oldest, most basic film effects, that was even used in episode 4 and 5, doesn’t “feel like Star Wars”?

This is my take on “doesn’t feel like Star Wars” It feels like they are trying very had to fit the current filming format. If you look at Star Wars as a generational spanning work it has things you expect from the way it’s presented, it has a look and a feel to it that you expect from Star Wars. Think of it this way, try and do the Matrix with out bullet time, it’s a staple to that franchise, it would feel off as its something you come to expect and it’s missing its not presented as it has been for nearly 40+ years in the case of Star Wars you’d be a bit skeptical as to how it’ll turn out too. Now think if you take that same element and put it in Star Wars then SW will feel off as it’s not something you expect from the esthetic of everything that came before it feels out of place. I don’t agree with everything he says but he has some valid points in my opinion. Then again this is my opinion. If you disagree let me know why and I’m more than happy to discuss it.

The first slo-mo shot in Star Wars was in the cave on Dagobah in ESB. It's just a visual storytelling tool, there's no reason why it can't be used in Star Wars

I'm sorry, but Theory overreacts. Complaining about slow motion? There was a slow mo in The Empire Strikes Back when Luke saw Vader on Dagobah and there was a slow mo in The Rise of Skywalker when Rey jumped and destroyed Kylo's ship with a lightsaber. Theory says Acolyte doesn't feel like Star Wars when there's a JEDI MASTER fighting a mysterious dark side user. Star Wars isn't just 1-6, not anymore. There are some good things from Disney Star Wars. Andor, the first two seasons of Mandalorian, Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, Clone Wars season 7, bringing back Ewan and Hayden, bringing back Luke Skywalker to Mando and BOBF. I remember when Ahsoka came out and Theory said it felt like Star Wars, now he probably criticizes it too. The original plans for the Kenobi movies sounded great, sadly it didn't happen, but there are some good things about the show. They brought back Hayden and he finally got the love and respect he deserves, I think they didn't plan to bring him back for the trilogy, it was later Deborah Chow's idea to bring him back

In the case of the Dagoba scene it is to create a surreal environment feel, Disney means nothing to me. Im just pointing the BS that gets pushed on this channel. This guy continues to pretend that he's objective, continues to pretend that he is giving this new show a fair look. To be fair, there was slow mo used during the fight in all of the The Old Republic trailers that everyone loves and wishes that they'd make a whole movie like. However, those felt like Star Wars, not a Kung fu movie....I mean even the music sounds like it's from one of those movies.

The guy asks her why she doesnt use the weapon and I'm wondering if her "master" is pulling a palpatine telling Vader he needs to kill a jedi in order to build his new saber and the trailer has her using the force to pull a saber to her which im thinking is from the jedi she kills with the knives (vader used a training sword). I agree but I’ll be honest, it’s getting to the point where theory’s opinions and videos are always negative. He always has something negative to say. The constant negativity is becoming tiresome - I miss the old days when nerd theory was at its peak and the boys would actually discuss Star Wars
Slo-mo's nothing new to Star Wars but, I hope they don't over use it. In this clip the one instance it's used is fine. It has a clear focus to show what is happening rather than for "cool effects", to show her nearly stealing his lightsaber. The martial arts is fine. We had two "well known" forms of fictional martial arts that exist in both Legends and the current Canon, Teras Kasi and the Echani martial art. There are maybe 20 more martial arts spread across both Legends and Canon material. I think its super cool that we are finally getting to see this kind of fighting within a Star Wars live action series. (beyond a brief toss and grapple from Solo and a couple quarter staff jabs in Rogue One)

The thing I'd like to say is that KK was supposedly all in on the kenobi show. I'd also like to point out that now that it failed, it was magically Dave and jons fault things went the way they did? Nah, not buying that. They took that man's treatment, bastardized it, gave it to one of the most overrated directors in the business and half the money. KK robbed us 100%.
The slow-mo in this clip isn't the same at the "slow-mo" seen in Empire. Yes that movie was made in the late 70s so the actual effect wasn't as sound, but it's not for the same effect we see here which is the point of Theory's opinion. Seeing it here doesn't bother me, but I also understand why Theory feels it doesn't belong

Martial Arts even though they exist in Star Wars haven't been a highlight, so that makes this feel weird and out of place. Probably a more subtle touch on the martial arts would've been good to show jedi actually been able to handle one on one fighting but not making them entirely kung fu practitioners THEY ARE JEDI not martial artists.

I mean, the biggest issues I immediately see with this are just issues present in MOST new Star Wars media. The strikes are too wide & impractical which might look more “flashy” to the untrained eye, but the actress is not generating any force (for lack of a better word) with those wild flailing punches.
I think this issue has just been more noticeable with modern Star Wars, when it appears that characters are just aiming at each others blades while remaining out of their weapon’s range instead of attempting to utilize any effective offensive maneuvers.
The fight felt very Chinese fantasy Wushu, and even watching the leaked 3-4 min fight scene in the bar was weird af for a Star Wars fight scene.
Guys, watch the night fight and the restaurant fight scene in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and then compare it to this scene and the 3-4 min leaked bar fight, also listen to the score when Michelle Yeoh fights Jen. It's absolutely crazy and ridiculous how Disney Star Wars is trying to copy CTHD.... Why Disney, why?
Star Wars fights are not Chinese fantasy wushu stuff, more so Sabre duels which are akin to Samurai fights.
I think it really might come down to who is working with Disney and Marvel Studios right now. I bought Mulan in 4K and it's got the same type of combat stunts. Not the best, not the worst, but CT,HD and House of Flying Daggers, Hero, etc were just much better movies. Shang Chi was another that reminds me of this.

I agree with what you're saying, and that script was absolute fire! I also agree that being respectful should always be the way to communicate. However, you calling someone a nitwit is not being respectful in my opinion, even though they did a bad job.
He’s using “Teras Kasi”. The martial art form that jedi used during hand to hand combat. I know you dopamine goblins wanna see lightsaber fights every couple of minutes but this specific scene is good. It shows that jedi can kick ass with their hands too. The jedi itself is based on asian culture as well, being mainly based around buddhism. So that’s why there’s also a martial art aspect to them as well. Not many people know about their unarmed combat form. Really only the people into the deep DEEP lore of Star Wars know this.
I hate the sequels and bobf and obi wan and mando s3 but I’m starting to think your critiques are somewhat inconsistent. You bring up Lucas saying maul is the first time the Jedi have ever encountered a Sith but you don’t discredit any of the eu lore (Revan/bane/etc) all instances where Sith revealed themselves to the Jedi yet you’re not posting anything about those stories breaking canon.
And another thing to note “martial arts don’t belong in Star Wars” tarkovsky did it and you didn’t say that, clone wars series did it and you didn’t say that, phantom menace did it and you didn’t say that and ep 2 did it and you didn’t say that

Acolyte is not Sith but someone who felt wronged by the jedi who became a dark Jedi. Acolyte means 1 : one who assists a member of the clergy in a liturgical service by performing minor duties. 2 : one who attends or assists a leader : follower. So it's just someone who's learning the dark side taking revenge. If a sith is around then in this series the Jedi never discover one.
I can totally understand and respect your opinion, we have differing tastes, while I like Star Wars to look and feel the way I’m used to it, I can respect you’re opinion and openness to embracing the evolution of Star Wars into new cinematic elements and territory. I guess I’m a bit more of a if it’s not broke don’t fix it kinda fan.

@Star Wars Theory I just saw the segment where you showed the clip of George talking about Ep. 1 and how there wasn't an Acolyte. Here's my thought, given the "when" the show will take place we can pretty safely say that Tenebrous is the current ranking Dark Lord of the Sith of the Bane line and Hego Demask would still be too young to have started his apprenticeship but we know that he trained Venamis on the side too. Couldn't this be one of his earlier trainees that got a little antsy and in the end either killed all (or most) of main Jedi characters but ultimately fails leading to "record or memory" of the events?

Clone Wars S6 E10, they find out that the Dooku manipulated Sifo Dyas into ordering the creation of the clones. Yoda says the army that our enemy created for us. Cover this up we must.
Obi-Wan goes undercover to track a terrorist but has to fake his death so that Anakin's reaction is genuine to sell the cover.
I can go on and on my friend. Their plenty of examples of the Jedi burying information and covering things up so that the status quo (ie A thousand generations of peace and security) stays the same. I can totally see them keeping the reappearance of a Sith hidden and for what reason because it shows that they were blinded by their own hubris and which is what was their ultimate fatal sin. They believed that they were the only ones that could interpret the Will of The Force and if it was ever shown that they were wrong it would start to erode the faith in what they said. If you can make God bleed, people will cease the believe in him.

I think they believe the twins thing is a big plot twist. But it was obvious to me since the very first trailer. You'd see the girl either full faces, or with the shady face covering. Even in the poster, you'd see her twice, once full faced and once masked. For 5 sec I was wondering why they put her twice, then I realized.
It was never a "plot twist" the fanbabies have been all over the place for weeks trying to "spoil" the show and it turns out they gave away....nothing. The show reveals the twins in the first episode. LOL
One would hope this means next time they'll wait to watch the show first so they don't end up sounding like idiots but I'm not counting on it. They'll flip out again next time there's gays mentioned or they see a black woman

K, George Lucas was also super interested with Samurai stuff, and that is one of the reasons that inspired him when making Star Wars, so I don’t understand what the fucking issue is with this fight being Samurai kinda. The fights in this show just looks like it came straight out of anime. And the slo-mo is not that big a deal. Good God. Listen, I'm not excited for this show because I have a feeling that the writing is going to be a god awful shitty mess and the director included a bunch of her woke bullshit. But i am kinda interested on how this is gonna go. We can’t judge yet.

Straight up, it’s one thing to talk about scripting/story telling with TLJ or ROS. Kenobi and BOBF-story telling just didn’t match the characters. But started to critique a robe or use of slow mo (overdone CGI critiques on prequels, anyone), now you’re just drinking the Haterade.
You’ve already judged. I loathed TLJ and ROS, but these clips look like they learned a bit. Kinda digging the potential finally.

It does fit with Star Wars. Master Sol is using “Teras Kasi”, the unarmed martial art form that jedi use when NOT wielding a lightsaber, sometimes by choice. The SAME form Ahsoka used in tales of the jedi when fighting one of the inquisitors.

Honestly. As much as I am cautiously optimistic about Acolyte, I actually liked the clip ngl. I'm intrigued to see if Disney can pull it off with this show. I doubt it, but I hope it's good. I don't WANT bad Star Wars content, but it's just mid all around these days

I think the hand to hand choreography looks good, slo mo is a little weird but ignorable… just hope the lightsaber choreography is on par with it

There's two reasons we didn't get the proper Obi-Wan One they Disney fight it and two they're allergic to making money they make piss poor decisions because the people handling the product are not Star wars people they're not true fans they don't even understand the basic premises of the franchise

There is consistency in George Lucas Star Wars and none of it consists with what is represented in this clip. Especially the generic kung fu fight music. That is a Galaxy Near, Near, Here instead of Far, Far, Away. Disney has strayed so far away from George's intent that it's all becoming fan fiction no matter how much they call it canon. Real canon is EP 1-6. Everything else is imagination land. Enjoy it or trash it however you see fit, but it's not George Lucas Star Wars.
