Thanks for the review, nice to see someone's experience of a BYD. 250Wh per mile is 0.25kWh per mile which is 1/0.25 = 4 miles per kWh. The other consumption graph was in kilometers rather than miles so would have to multiple by 1.6 to get it in miles. Watch out for overstay fees at Tesla Superchargers! You're taking the right approach, just learn how to use the car and just do the stops you would do anyway for food etc but charge during those stops. Don't worry too much about charging costs just yet. Once you've figured out range, how fast your car charges etc etc you can start to think about optimising for charging costs and whether you want to prioritise cost/convenience at any given time.

For a car of that size you should get around 4 miles per kWh. Your consumption improves significantly if you keep to around 60 mph. Aircon usually only drops efficiency by about 3-4%. We always charge at Tesla chargers if at all possible, they are always the cheapest and work first time every time. We have a Kia Niro and done 14k miles in 20 months When you get your home charger at cheap night rate you will enjoy it even more 🙂

I've had my BYD Dolphin for a week now - so far only driven very short distances, but impressed with it so far. Previous vehicle was an electric Corsa which did, on average a shade under 4 miles p/kwh (though I mostly drove in eco - except in the summer when the eco setting's air con wasn't powerful enough).
The BYD has a bigger battery, so has more range. I'm looking forward to being able to take it out on some longer journeys.
If you've got a decent at home charger and a decent electricity tariff (e.g. with Octopus), you can easily get really cheap rates. At less than 10p/kwh overnight you can easily get a full charge ( say 200 miles) for ~£6.
Yes, charging on public chargers is expensive, but if you're mostly able to charge at home it's a far cheaper vehicle to run and maintain.
The thing I find most mad about this vehicle is why it's so much more expensive in the UK -- ~$15,000 in China .... ~£30,000 in the UK!

I have an i pace and am getting 2.8 miles per kwh in the summer , in the winter i am getting 2.4 miles per kwh
The car shows i am getting 30.0 kwh/100 mile which should be 3.33 miles per kwh. This shows approx 20 % more than i am actually getting.
To get an exact range i do around 200 miles then see what charge it takes to get it to 100 %. This shows the car computer is not to accurate.
I have a pod point which shows what kwh you have used .If i do 200 miles i will top up approx 71.5 kw to 100 % = 2.8 kwh per mile at 8.5 p kw = approx 3 p per mile.

Next month, I hope to be in a position to be able to choose an EV (through salary sacrifice), until I see all my options, I am likely to be choosing between BYD Dolphin or the MG4 (as high a spec as I can), I have seen so many pro's & cons between these two cars already. My daily drive is about 70 miles so shouldnt have any range concerns. I have been tracking this for some time and it is 33, I checked it in the local BYD dealership yesterday.
The insurance groups are determined by the Motor Insurers' Automotive Research Centre that is located in Thatcham and this institution is commonly called "Thatcham". The rating doesn't only consider the car, but also considers the cost of repairing cars so it takes in account the availability and the cost of parts, availability of repair manuals, number if repair centres, track record, etc. BYD insurance groups are high because BYD is a new brand to the UK. Both BYD and Ora are working with Thatcham to improve their processes in order to lower the insurance groups for their vehicles.
The insurance for my Nissan Note was up for renewal in May, out of curiosity I phoned the insurer about insuring a Dolphin and the company did not insure that car, it was a well known company.
For me, insurance is the biggest unknown in getting a Dolphin and I will probably get one next year, hopefully the insurance situation would have improved by then.
