I have had my Dolphin for 6 months - same model. No problems whatsoever, and beautifully built. In practice I get around 400km around town, but that's because I enjoy the performance rather worry about efficiency. My AGL night EV tariff charges the car for around $5. Latest software version (1.3) fixes a lot of the ADACs issues. I turn off the traffic sign recognition (and it stays off), and turn off the more aggressive lane keeping etc, so in normal driving there are no bing bongs at all. Nice Review Elly, I also own a Dolphin🐬 Premium (mine's Blue), I've had it for 3 months now & LOVING IT♥♥♥ WLTP Rating is 427Km, I find the 490Km range number (NEDC Standard) misleading & unachievable. This leads me to a little (not so little!) bug bear of mine, the available range is nowhere near accurate & cannot be relied upon. I use a spreadsheet to calculate my range based on usage, I'd get @330Km from a full charge. I live in a Aussie Regional Town surrounded by not so gentle rolling hills, so this range is basically what I expected. The width of the driver side(Right Hand Drive in Oz) "A" pillar is an issue on those sharpish right hand bends, especially if there is oncoming traffic, it can completely block the view of oncoming cars, so don't cut the corners/bends. The reflection of the dash (particularly the shadow line of that large cutout) on the windscreen is really bad, if you're not wearing polarized sunnies🕶. I always drive in "Normal Mode" using the Adaptive Cruise Control a lot and I just love the feel, responsiveness (when needed), CarPlay (Apple Maps for me) & OMG the comfort is amazing. The Dolphin🐬 is a cool little car, with a great sense of style & fun, there should be a lot more of us on the roads. 🚙😍🚙🤩🚙😄
I'm 100000km and 3 years deep into my 2021 BYD Song EV. All good, nothing had to be changed, software is flawless, but the paint job isn't great. Recently I've found that the paint bubbled up in the corner of driver's door window frame. No big deal as for me, but I hope they've imposed it other over time (All the other body parts have no such thing, even fenders within the panel gaps have no pain job deterioration)
New batteries technology can now charge 600km in 10 minutes. Full charge gives 1000km. Connect your phone with car then ask AI to send sms or send message in social media. I dont know it will work on foreign but in china it works. Now a days in china almost every ev has auto driving feature.
The rotation screen is for mobile app compatible. Its infotainment system is basically a big Android phone so you can manually install any mobile apps on it if you want. A lot of Chinese owners like to do that (like me), I even installed mobile games on it, and attached a gamepad thru USB to play my favorite games on my car (of course not when driving:). Some apps are only designed to run on cell phone's portrait screen, the screen will automatically rotate to fit.
I'm glad you're enjoying your experience with your car. I feel the same about my Nissan Leaf, which is not an option for most people, but it has been a staple in our lives for the last 4 years and it is always reliable and is very easy and to use. :)

The cheapest BYD Dolphin in Malaysia is sold at MYR100,000 or USD22,840 or AUD34,750. How much is the cheapest BYD Dolphin sold in Australia? Thanks for the video.

We've got a Seal Premium and have the Heated/Cooled front seats - its great. We have never used a Public charger either and have also got by with just the granny charger, although we have bought an aftermarket charger that allows us to charge at slightly higher amps - 10 amps instead of the BYD charger's 8 amps - increases amount of charge gained over same period...
Great review. When I test drove one I experienced the wheel spinning also a bit. The amount of space inside is pretty good and V2L is great. Have you taken it camping with an induction cook top? That would be a fun video.
Hi Elly, Thank you for the detailed (long term) review of the BYD Dolphin Premium. We need more real world reviews such as your review. It;s nice to see how people actually live with an electric car day-to-day. Thanks again. 😀
Fantastic presentation, really enjoyed it. As an Atto 3 owner of a few weeks, we took a close look at the Dolphin (and about ten other EV's!) when deciding what to pick up. I'm kind of hoping they give me a Dolphin as a loan car at my first service :) Also, I think the button on the right of the gear selector is the "Park" gear, not the Electric Park Brake. For some reason the BYD's have a "P" for Park and a "(P)" for Electric Park Brake / Hand Brake. Even more confusing, selecting the Park gear activates the Electric Park Brake!
It is against the interest of gas and other parties, despite there is enough funding but the local US authority will not install charging stations, they will delay it.
what a delightful aussie review. interested to hear you try out something a bit bigger like the new Xpeng G6 or even comparable like the MG4. but BYD killin' it. maybe even the Seal?

Form Pakistan 🇵🇰. Yes recommend. I keep watching auto channels.
Love Elly’s review and cheerful voice!
Never mind the car good to see more videos of E. AWESOME 💙
New batteries technology can now charge 600km in 10 minutes. Full charge gives 1000km. Connect your phone with car then ask AI to send sms or send message in social media. I dont know it will work on foreign but in china it works. Now a days in china almost every ev has auto driving feature.
Thanks for this review very helpful, we've been looking into EVs aa a new car, a big investment for us and your review is great 👍
Wow, this is proper review of the car. Hope byd notice you so you can review their other cars.
I installed Retro Arch to play old arcade games. Perfect.
its very useful, navigation can see more info ahead, very useful.
We need more lady doing Car Reviewing!
I'm glad you're enjoying your experience with your car. I feel the same about my Nissan Leaf, which is not an option for most people, but it has been a staple in our lives for the last 4 years and it is always reliable and is very easy and to use. :)
This is refreshingly genuine. I like how the car is absolutely filthy and no attempt to clean it.
Nice ;) I'm in China and too spoilt for choice hahah...but I've been eyeing this one. Thank you for this ;)
Great update Elly, it's the perfect EV in so many ways. Compact, affordable and cheap to run.
@AmazingEV 👍🏻
Lovely, just lovely.
I do own a BYD Atto 3 & it is really great.
And I am sure the BYD Dolphin is just as great.
But i hope to have a BYD Seagull as a second car,
but unfortunately it will NOT be available
in our country due to government' policy !!
Sad though !!
Great video, first time I have watched your channel, love your presentation style
I got the Dolphin, your earlier review helped a lot too. Its a great car.
So glad your video turned up on my suggestions! Good to see you again--haven't watched a video from you (sorry) since I watched a Sony Xperia review probably six or seven years ago! Glad that you're still reviewing great products, especially EVs which are such an important sector now.
Thank you!! :) nice to know I'm remembered haha
@@EllyAwesomeTech Oh I hope you didn't think I forgot about you! I don't know why YT stopped recommending your videos but I just subscribed so I will get notifications now. So I don't miss your AUS-some videos!
A cheap, reliable EV is a good car for the average consumer, no matter where it comes from.
It’s so nice to see a review from a direct user . Thank you
BYD being a Chinese company actually is the acronym for BI YA DA, that’s the real Chinese name. However they use the acronym to create a tagline Build Your Dreams, like LG uses the tagline of Life’s Good. However LG real name is Lucky Goldstar!
BI YA DI
Ive had mine for just over a year( first in the uk) absolutely love mine and covered 17k. Only niggle would be the air vent glare. I changed the tires straight away and binned those awful ling longs!!!!Apart from that no issues, im holding on for the seal 6gt if it comes to the uk.
At this point of time and age, a vehicle should not cost more than $30k. BYD is for average people
"In this new era of robotics and recycling in the production process and material costs, the Chinese have really proven that a car can cost only 10,000 euros (which is also the price of a Mercedes or BMW, but in essence, we’re paying for a name from the past)."
这台车在中国仅仅只要1万美元,属于入门级的电动汽车。
@@aciderektionsome of those cars are handmade. Not everybody wants a mass-produced junk.
@@ryanwalters6184 handmade?? Hahahahah what's hand made? Mercedes? BMW? The "handmade" cars you talking about might be something like Lamborghini Gallardo which costs like up to a million so good luck with that, handmade hahahahahajahhahajjaha
Great review! I hope BYD comes to the U.S., though I’m not holding my breath. Why can’t our auto makers build a car like this?
You can buy an electric byd bus made in California 😂😂😂. I hope trump makes a deal with them.
Already in the first minute there is one detail that sounds so right. You can use a traditional key OR an App OR NFC. We are all different so many alternatives is good thing!
I live in Malaysia. I am getting a BYD Dolphin. This video gives me the first impression of how owning and driving a BYD Dolphin is like. Yes, there are a lot of autonomous or AI features. But I don't fancy these AI stuffs. I only want an EV with an efficient electric motor and an easy-to-manage battery. The cheapest BYD Dolphin in Malaysia is sold at MYR100,000 or USD22,840 or AUD34,750. How much is the cheapest BYD Dolphin sold in Australia? Thanks for the video.
from US$14,000 in China
China doesn't produce in mass for different steering side
you'll love the AI stuff after knowing how to use it. like walking upto car doors unlock. lights auto on/off, turn ac/heat on/off from phone... and lot more. will not but a car without these features now
We've got a Seal Premium and have the Heated/Cooled front seats - its great. We have never used a Public charger either and have also got by with just the granny charger, although we have bought an aftermarket charger that allows us to charge at slightly higher amps - 10 amps instead of the BYD charger's 8 amps - increases amount of charge gained over same period...
Install a 7kW charging box. That's a big difference.
@@hczhang52 We would except we rent...so not really an option.
Really nice idea to have solar to power the car!
Awesome review. Loved it. Just subscribed 🎉
Wish it could come to the US.
Very frankly..once u started driving those Chinese EVs, all other makes are like past tense😂😂
Great review. When I test drove one I experienced the wheel spinning also a bit. The amount of space inside is pretty good and V2L is great. Have you taken it camping with an induction cook top? That would be a fun video.
I didn't know the Dolphin had such a lot of tech. Great for such a small cheap car.
If the CEO of Ford can drive his Xiaomi for 6 months and still going, Chinese EVs can’t be that bad.
Hi Elly,
Thank you for the detailed (long term) review of the BYD Dolphin Premium. We need more real world reviews such as your review. It;s nice to see how people actually live with an electric car day-to-day. Thanks again.
😀
Very good in depth review sister! 👍🙂
Great to see your review.
love love love your review! no tech figutes but true feelings as a normal user. Thank you!
it‘s only about 21,317~27,725 AUD(≈14,062~18,289 USD )in China, really cheap and popular as well.
Even more confusing, selecting the Park gear activates the Electric Park Brake!
great review, all the things that people want to know are touched on
Yes! Finally found an Australian woman , my height, reviewing this byd
Nice review (after a yr later)! It helps that the infrastructure is there, otherwise it would kill the market for evs.
You need two things
1. Home wall box charger
2. Upgrade your tires go to a tire specialist that knows about EVs.
The original Linglong tires are so that bad. But I will probably change when they are worn out.
Yeah, petrol cars suck and EVs rule! Nice review.
It is against the interest of gas and other parties, despite there is enough funding but the local US authority will not install charging stations, they will delay it.
There is already a huge network of EV charging stations in the U.S., constantly expanding
Same way airlines teamed up to lobby against building better rail system for public transport.
@@hankkingsley9183only in California
Great down-to-earth review, thanks!
Unfortunately it’s not possible to get these cars in the US. I had to pay a lot of money for a hybrid recently.
Today I learned about the “Three Finger Salute” for the AC :) Have an Atto but the Dolphin seems like a pretty cool car….
Great review, love to have one👍
what a delightful aussie review. interested to hear you try out something a bit bigger like the new Xpeng G6 or even comparable like the MG4. but BYD killin' it. maybe even the Seal?
Nice real pretty owner review on the Dolphin.
great video
