10:04 In the BYD Dolphin is possible to adjust temperature and fan speed using a 3-finger multi-touch even when the AndroidAuto/Carplay layer is on top, moving up and down for temperature and left and right for fan speed. I assume this model has that feature too.
Why don't reviewers become familiar with how screens are used for functions before being criticcal. The 3-finger swipe up/down or across instantly adjusts temperature and fan speed. The BYD owners I know just *talk* to their car to carry out ALL basic functions, like navigation. music, winding up/down windows or open/closing the sun roof or shade.
Which is clear why the tax needs to be imposed, else the Americans and Germans will have a hard time keeping up I guess. My GLA feels cheaper in comparison but sold at a more premium price 😅
just because China have funded research & are miles ahead of the Americans & Germans, why should they be penalised? Germany have been ignorant thinking they'll always be #1.. not anymore.
Odd that you consider the price competitive compared to the model Y. Small difference in cost but the Tesla has better range and significantly better software and charging infrastructure. Byd might be more competitive if it was on offer at the same price as local markets.
Why are they so expensive in the UK? The base Tesla and expected price for base Sealion in Australia is AUD55,000. That’s equivalent to GBP30,000. I know the VAT is 10% higher in the UK and Australia is closer to China for shipping, but that gap for similar RHD vehicles is ridiculous.
Tariff to protect EU market from being overrun, 10% since earlier and about +30% since this month. I know that Uk is not EU but the prices for Europe is set more central.
A glaring error from the many car reviewers on BYD cars. There is no need to dig into multiple menus levels to adjust aircond settings. 3 finger swipe from left to right (or vice-versa) adjusts the fan speed. 3 finger swipe from top to bottom adjusts the temperature. You can also use voice commands.
the NMC or NCA might offer more range but they can only be charged up to 80% most of the time unlike LFP's which can take 100% without damaging the battery or cause thermal runaway..LFP batteries are known to last at least twice longer than NMC batteries.. LFP all the way..
This is misleading. Any type of battery chemistry (absolutely any) will degrade faster at full charge or full discharge. This is simply how they work physically and chemically. What is true is that LFP batteries degrade at a slower rate than NMC or NCA at full charge (due to lower chemical stress). But they will still benefit in longevity from being charged only up to 80%, in fact, the perfect state of any battery, is 50% charge and 50% discharge but of course this isn't practical in real life and unnecessary with LFPs because their stability also extends to cycle life and with average use they will lose 20% of their range by the time the car is falling apart (especially with proper cooling), 15-25 years after purchase.
I'm sorry but this is absolutely 100% false. ANY EV you buy you can charge to 100%. I'm on my 5th EV and they're all constantly charged at 100%. No noticeable degradation in the battery and even if there was, I couldn't care less. You bought 100% of the car so you use 100% of the car
The S7 has an interior as good as Audi if not better, the design looks to be up against the Cupra Tavascan, Skoda Enyaq and Xpeng G6.. the choices is down to price for most buyers, I guess. This is going to start at under 30,000 pounds (A$60,000) in Australia. I'll be buying an electric SUV next year. I'm between this, an Xpeng G6 or a Deepal S07. I haven't been in a Sea Lion 7 yet, but it looks great, and I've driven the Seal and love it. The Deepal and the Xpeng are both lovely inside too. It's a fun choice to have to make.
After testing a billion options in China, my wife and I have this model. Picked up the comfort model for 175,000RMB, so roughly £19k. Not that impressed, needed an SUV otherwise would of gone for their QIN-L DM-I saloon.
I think one very important thing for companies to understand is that deceptive marketing can only work for market leaders and only if it is very subtle. For newcomers you have to always follow a clear naming scheme and always make it easily comparable with its rival and what you want to put it against. Prime example of doing it right, is AMD Ryzen 1st gen that made it crystal clear what to compare each CPU with.
The digit 7 is being used by Chinese EVs to denote a mid Size segment mostly SUVs or sedans with plugin or EV power train, examples include Zeekr 7X, Li auto L7, this Sealion 7, forthcoming Xpeng G7, Nio ES7, Auto M7, Avatr 07, Deepal S07, Geely L7,
S7 just launched in my country MY. After viewing it today and tested. Overall still lacking from XPeng G6 (expected). In terms of charging speed, comfort, space (G6 is slightly higher) and the best would be their UI on the touch screen. Way smoother and has ease of use. All the setting can be find within the main page or the next. BYD S7 did improved as compared to Seal but still lacking behind if you compared to G6. Plus the price for S7 is higher than G6 over here. Only plus point would be the exterior design, blade type battery and rotating screen (which i felt overated haha).
They really need to sort the naming out for the western markets. They've listened by removing the BUILD YOUR DREAMS lettering off the Dolphin, but the actual model names need adjusting to western tastes.
BYD main market is in Asia, why waste time on western market when they will get tariffed anyway? Like 100 million percent tariffs that are expected for anything superior that can enter western market? It's useless, they better focus on Asian and south American markets which are more reliable.
Their names are absolutely fine. Better than giving them random letters and numbers, which other brands insist on doing. I for one am glad to see proper names making a return. No 1 pedal drive? What EV maker does this? I’ve been driving electric for a year now and can’t go without it anymore. Seems stupid but this is a dealbreaker
I own an MG and have nothing against Chinese cars. Except for when I drove a BYD and they put the the indicator stalk on the right hand side which I find INCREDIBLY annoying. I'm not aware of any other modern car maker doing it and they need to clue themselves in. Also, BYD need to stop copying Tesla and put some proper physical buttons in for commonly used functions.
Models with number as postfix is a PHEV. Eg. Shark is BEV, Shark 6 is PHEV Similarly Sealion is BEV and Sealion 6 and 7 are PHEV. Difference in numbering probably differentiates trim level, or LHD 7 from RHD 6
6:25 It's amazing how the driver seat had become one size fit all, and no neck adjustment, I don't have a C shaped neck and back, mine is very straight and I need neck forward/backward adjustment... So far no BYD or Zeekr or Volvos, only few German cars had what my neck needs.... 😢
Its not confusing once you understand the China buckets these cars as NEVs or New Energy Vehicles. The distinction is environmentally driven and segregates full petrol/diesel traditional ICE from cars that are better for the environment including hybrids. Kinda like you wouldn't say a turbo charged car is a different category from regular aspirated cars.
Let’s see if they can get through one minute before they mention Tes… seems not. Ok - how about not mentioning it in the next ten minut… seems not. Alexa - how many times was Tesla Model Y mentioned in this video? “I’m sorry - I don’t know, I lost count at ten but I think it was mentioned more than BYD”
It is to see a BYD without the over the top design. Someone at BYD must have found the memo that said:”All emphasis is no emphasis” which is apparently a key design principle if you want to sell cars in the EU 🙂↔️😳. I still don’t like the marine animals link. In the back of my mind a little voice keeps saying: ‘handles like a beached whale’, which is a common description of the essential handling characteristics of people movers or seven seater vans. Why BYD? What is the brand image your naming of cars is trying to establish? This car looks really nice, inside and out. That is a big improvement but if I am hearing correctly, it prioritises ‘comfort’ over dynamics and that is usually code for the “B” word. [Boring!] and that is a pity.
"The best BYD" or the best "any product" depends on each person's individual priorities, needs, values and desirability criteria. The now totally taboo BYD Seagull that sells for just $10,000 in China would be by far the most popular BYD EV worldwide if it were to be sold globally at non-hyperinflated, tariffed-to-death prices. The fact that countless media outlets described the Seagull 6-7 months ago as the EV that US/Western carmakers "most feared" simply comfirms what I've stated in this comment... Paul G
Tesla state the trunk space of the model Y is 854 litres which is a ridiculously high figure that unfortunately misleads consumers who are accustomed to measurements traditionally conducted using a different methodology. Using the traditional methodology the model y trunk is 540 litres according to German motoring group ADAC. A second form of qualification is Bjorn Nyland who conducts a practical test, he demonstrates a Xpeng G6 and Ionic 5 beats the model Y. Thank you for not blindly accepting Teslas trunk spec. Here in Australia byds are a lot cheaper than Teslas although the gap is narrowing. Byd reliability is very good and voice control is excellent. Byd Adas and infotainment tech is falling behind Tesla. Byd warranty is longer. BYD have a different pricing strategy in Europe. Sales tax is lower and tariffs are non existent in Australia. Energy is free between 11-2pm and 4pence midnight to 6 am and Australian govt last week ratified V2H and V2G so discharging during peak and recharging off peak becomes a very strong motivator to own an EV for those who can charge at home. Bidirectional charging is a specification about to be on the lips of reviewers. Software defined and AI integration should also be mentioned.
I find it funny how these Tesla fanboy reviewers from the UK keep trying to talk down on Chinese cars whilst can no longer hide the elephant in the room. Times have changed and it is evident that Chinese cars are better built than many Western counterparts hence offering a much better value for money. 😊
Too expensive, seeing it will be well in the luxury tax band next year. Needs to be under £40k - at this price I doubt many will take it over a Model Y. Also, do we need yet another biggish SUV? EV adoption needs to accelerate and needs smaller/cheaper cars - these £40k plus heavy things don’t cut it with most people.
BYD as I undestand it has the same dept level as Evergrande, that real estate company that went bankrupt. Idk if it will be around much longer, especially in the face of the new president in the US, Trumpy.
Nice video! Sadly, BYD vehicles don't excel in anything. Heavy vehicles, poor efficiency, slow charging, old battery, glitchy software, slow software updates etc to name a few. At least they could have put version 2 of the blade battery in this car. High pricing is another bad marketing strategy. Seems Chinese manafucatures include GWM (barring MG) have not learnt from Kia/Hyundai how to penetrate the market. Plus when you have Tesla where the annual service is not required, and have access to super charger network, all legacy EV manufacturers are against tough competition at least for retail buyers. Had checked Seal, and came to know year 4 service cost nearly £500 - who says EV are simple and you save on service cost!
They can keep it - I'll stick to my 2025 petrol X3 MSport which is due to be delivered in the next couple of months.......................thankyou very much.

Hi. Does it have a rain sensor/auto wipers? Thanks
Other confusing name is BYD Shark, in Mexico it's called Shark but in Australia it's Shark 6
So adding a 6 confuses you?
Models with number as postfix is a PHEV. Eg. Shark is BEV, Shark 6 is PHEV
Similarly Sealion is BEV and Sealion 6 and 7 are PHEV. Difference in numbering probably differentiates trim level, or LHD 7 from RHD 6
think 6 means hybrid... 7 is electric
my 2 AMGs don't have neck adjustment
How far does the tesla with the LFP battery go?
Total weight ?
Throwing your keys on the bar; I've got a sealion🤦🏻♂️
What is the AC charge rate 11kW or 22kW?
Max. 11kW on three-phrase for all versions. Hope this helps.
50,000 pounds...!? That's ~ $100,000 AUD. You guys are getting scalped at that price....
In srilanka it's 100000 pounds
"Very competitively priced" is a far cry from affordable
There will be PHEV version too ?
Sealion 6
I would like to see a Citroen C5X, a VW ID.7 and a BYD Sealion 7 side by side.
I'm holding out for the Walrus
who is buying this, when the Tesla is less than 2k more, has MILES more range and is not Chinese?
lol UK teslas made in China... get a grip
Chinese EV's will have up to 40% tariffs in the EU
order a LHD from UK BYD and drive across after....
@@fatdoi003 Haha yeah cus they won't find out about that via my registration? :)
They absolutely have to. It's a direct competitor on similar cars. It's by far the safest comparison
I don't understang why they changed the rims. These aren't rims of an electric car..
老实说,这辆车很棒
Well done, BYD , WOW 👌
considering the suv level its sad to see you can't have 3 adults comfortable
Beautiful headlights
There are no more cars for single people or couples. Everything is a "Family SUV" yet I mostly see a single person in each car on the road...
This is a very good looking vehicle!
Çok başarılı ve güçlü bir anlatım. teşekkürler.
Nice !

Japanese cars in Japan also 1/2 price to export versions
Price in China 19k GBP.
13:20 …. The price thank you but I would rather pay around £1500 more for Tesla.
Who has the money to buy one? Not most people
then why not ask tesla to lower their price too? here in AU EVs are having a price war
Safety rating, slavery and espionage should still be major concerns though.
Better looking than a model Y for sure, but I couldn't drive a car with such a ridiculous name.
BYD an Dacia going head to head for most ridiculous car model names
Lovely looking car, but slightly underwhelming range.
They need to figure out their naming conventions, that’s for sure
I find it funny how these Tesla fanboy reviewers from the UK keep trying to talk down on Chinese cars whilst can no longer hide the elephant in the room. Times have changed and it is evident that Chinese cars are better built than many Western counterparts hence offering a much better value for money. 😊
Dolphin is terrible looking
byd is so cool
Too expensive, seeing it will be well in the luxury tax band next year. Needs to be under £40k - at this price I doubt many will take it over a Model Y.
Also, do we need yet another biggish SUV? EV adoption needs to accelerate and needs smaller/cheaper cars - these £40k plus heavy things don’t cut it with most people.
BYD as I undestand it has the same dept level as Evergrande, that real estate company that went bankrupt. Idk if it will be around much longer, especially in the face of the new president in the US, Trumpy.
Is it acceptable to find anything as being BETTER THAN A TESLA ?.
Thank you for your creativity and effort. Your videos are always a joy.😍🧸🐕

Just as they get rid of the tacky build your dreams across the back, they put 7 and 4.5 s. Urgh
The amount of times we have seen that bloody stupid tablet rotating in all the models!
BYD is going run out of sea mammals before they run out of models.
Love your video(s), but please take your hand out of your pocket. It shows sophistication, but it's also very boring. Thanks. Joe.
Has anyone smelt a Sea lion? Stick of fish.
Disappointing. There is no reason to buy this when the EV6, Ioniq 5, and EV3 exist. The EV6 is better in every way.
Wait for 2025 Tesla Model Y. Made in Germany.
looks like jaguar i pace
Glad it’s just the looks and not the reliability😅
They can keep it - I'll stick to my 2025 petrol X3 MSport which is due to be delivered in the next couple of months.......................thankyou very much.
don't see many byd on uk road despite they are no.1 brand
Still in its infancy really in the UK. Another few years and they'll be bigger here.
Byd are very overpriced in the UK
They are uncommon in Indonesia, but the M6 can be seen frequently because the ride-hailing company Grab use it for their GrabCar Plus Electric
@@PsychedMediayou can thank our government and its additional tax for Chinese EV’s
They are no 1 brand here in Malaysia and you see them everywhere.
Not full regen ? Then it isn’t a proper EV
It would be nice with a good engine in it no more stops trying to fing a working charger or one without a queue 😂
An 'engine'....🤣🤣🤣...6 year and 68,000 miles into EV ownership and I've never had to queue for a charger.
It would be nice with a good wall charger at home so no more stops trying to "fing" a expensive petrol/diesel pump without a queue 😂
Lovely
