  • This video is focused on the Minn Kota Raptor vs the Minn Kota Talon. Both of these are used for more than just bass fishing, so that is why I wanted to talk about their similarities and their differences. The Minn Kota Raptor look much like a Power Pole, but that's for another video. I hope you catch tons of bass, crappie, and walleye in your future. Thank you for watching my Minn Kota Raptor vs Minn Kota Talon | Shallow Water Anchors for Fishing video! Please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already.
    A little about me:
I am James McBurnett. I live in the great state of Texas. Probably not where you would think, but I am located in the panhandle region. I moved here from Alabama and work as a Chemical Engineer in the area. After being here for a few years, I decided to get back to my roots as a fisherman. It is quite challenging in my area to find a body of water to fish. The closest lake to me is about 40 miles away.
After a couple more years, I realized how much I love fishing and wanted to share it with the world. Clearwater fishing was born. I wanted to teach people all about fishing. This includes rods, reels, fishing line, bait, lures, largemouth bass, crappie, walleye, catfish, bluegill, boats, boat trailers, outboards, and anything else related to fishing.
I also wanted to share my fishing experiences as well. To be entertaining, knowledgeable, comical, and FUN. This channel was created out of the love of the sport of fishing, and I plan to keep making content that represents that. Thank you for watching this video and reading a bit about me. Give me a shout out in the comments below and let me know you read this. Now get out there and go catch you some fish.

Will one work hold you in a direction you want or do you end up spinning around. Or do you need 2 to really stay completely still? Thank you I don't know if I need to buy one or two

I had an 8’ talon on my old boat. Now I have 2 12’ on my 23’ bay boat. I prefer the vertical deploy. However, I believe that raptor and power poles hold a little better due to the angle they deploy. I would still go Talon. Also only a matter of time before you get a hydraulic leak🤔

Thank you for your comment. I think you are correct on both accounts. How long have you had talons?

@@clearwaterfishing 3 1/2 years in this boat. 3-4 on old 18’ bass boat. About 8 years

That is a pretty good amount of time to really know how well these guys are going to stand up to being used.

@@clearwaterfishing Absolutely, I have a friend that’s had them even longer. We know all the ins and outs. We know all the tricks to keep them working quite and smooth. Any thing that you might have heard about noise or not wanting to retract is all lack of operator knowledge.

@@mkclean13 Interesting. Our brand new 2019 10ft talon that was only lightly used for one Michigan boating season.... broke on us. Out on the water anchored in calm water, and it got stuck down. Would not come up no matter what we did. Tried sending it down further and then back up, didn't work. Tried manually cranking it up with a ratchet and the nut on the side..... didn't work. Had to unbolt that damn thing from the back of the boat while sitting right there on the water. Laid it across our back casting deck and drove to the launch. Then had to unhook all of the wires to put the talon in the truck and drive home.
Had it repaired under warranty. The wires somehow snapped / came off pully's etc. I dont believe that this was operator error, as it was brand new and hardly used. Maybe we just had bad luck. I still like the thing, but man that was a nightmare scenario. Now I'm trying to decide on either a 2nd talon, or 2 raptors and selling this talon? What to do, what to do?

The ability to get talon in 15 foot is appealing. Where I fish there’s not a lot of waves or water movement

An important feature is the 12 foot talons fold down on my deck so I can get my boat in the garage! Can't do that with hydraulic units.

    • @clearwaterfishing
      @clearwaterfishing  3 года назад

I see people have them down a lot. I also see people with hydraulics half way down to get in and out of the garage. Do you love your talons? Do you recommend them?

      @@clearwaterfishing Absolutely 💯love them. I have the 12 foot model's.
Worked perfectly on day one and never had a problem. Easy to install and wire up. Piece of 🎂. Have 2 since 2014 on my Ranger.
Hydraulic units wouldn't work for me in my garage.

Electric has no down pressure. Hydraulic has tons. And why you anchor in 12. Buy an ultrex

I agree. Not sure how the tech works 100%, but I gave my best guess. I don't see why they couldn't adapt it for the Talons.
