@Anthony-Soprano I've had the same battery powered mower for 7 years I've had to pick up one additional battery but the original one can still do my front yard or back yard by itself. They don't just randomly die and completely stop working after 5 years.
I have a small 37cm Ryobi 18v lawn mower and it would bog down and stall just looking at that grass. That EGO is INSANE! Definitely on my purchase list once I move onto the bigger property.
Wrong lower blade!!! The mulch blade that's on there now is specifically designed to spread grass clippings, not blow it into the volute and out the chute. This blade will not work well with the grass catcher bag either. I recommend either of the other two blades, the high lift would work the best, but at the expense of battery power. (less run time) If you had two batteries, the high lift blade, (the biggest one) would work perfectly. Another big help, is if you could mow away from the chute, to give the chute clearance from the adjacent tall grass would reduce restriction, for a much better discharge.
Best review ever. All others are about how the mower loox on perfectly cut grass. This is actually how it's to be used in the real world where grass sometimes grows higher than 2 inches.
Such a good point. Some others will mow 4-6 inches of grass but sometimes you got to mow taller grass. I know you should use a string trimmer first but I wanted to know this too. I have a Toro super recycler from 2004 and it still works but for how much longer? I could mow this but with lots of running over the same area and taking partial rows. And I always mulch, I'd definitely need to side discharge. It's an 850 dollar mower but the performance seems good. Just sucks I would probably need a $500 battery in 5 to 6 years.
That's impressive! I used to clean up vacant properties when I was in my late teens with a Honda Harmony, and it struggled through tall thick stuff like that. The Ego burned up a lot of battery, but got the job done well! I would typically need to "half-track" it with the Honda, by only cutting an half the width of the lawnmower. A few suggestions for improving the side discharge performance. First, Install the high-lift blade. I noticed you were using the mulching blade. That will give the clippings more velocity. Second, blow your clippings onto an area that's already been cut as much as possible. Blowing the clippings into an uncut-area means that the mower is working harder re-cutting the already-cut clippings, and thus the smaller bits can clog the discharge and consume more motor power. What I would do is mow in a counter-clockwise direction with the cute pointing outwards.
Honda has made a few improvements too since you were a teenager. I cut lawns professionally and have to tackle the grass as seen here on a weekly basis. I use gas powered Honda 21" push mower and it's pretty good at it.. And I would need 5 of the EGO batteries to cut larger swats of tall grass. That would be way to costly to buy..
EGO is the absolute GOAT of lithium powered mowers. I have the 2135SP with 1.3 foot pounds of torque less than this one but is still an incredible beast! I love my EGO! 👍🏻✌🏻💙
Great EGO (mower) power demonstration. The mower is very impressive. I purchased mine from Lowes about 3 months ago...and I love it. Thank you for the video.
I wouldn't depend on one video. My EGO experience has not been very good. The biggest culprit are their batteries that cost about $150 just for the battery. I am going to switch to a WORX brand mower. I have several Worx based battery tools and they work very well and I never have battery problems.
@@LT731Canales I think they price their batteries like that because they want you to really go all-in on the E-GO "suite" of tools. I got this lawnmower recently with an extra battery, and then a few weeks later I got the weed eater and will be getting the leaf blower later this year during the fall, and it's nice because I can just plug and play both batteries to get all my yardwork done without having to worry about gas and oil. But yeah, I think the batteries are a little pricey because they expect you to go all-in with the full range of tools that use those specific batteries.
I'm impressed with mower/battery, and the review was good. Some pointers to help. Have the deck raised to highest level for initial mow on high grass. Much easier on mower and operator. Use the high lift blade with chute, not the mulching blade. Less chance of blockage. Have the chute discharge facing away from where next mow-line will be. But back to the main subject, I was really worried that the LM2156 couldn't handle it, but I am a believer now. Once again, Thank you!
Use the included high-lift blade for side discharge and bagging. The mulch blade doesn’t create enough air flow to remove the tall, heavy grass. The high-lift sucks air up into the deck and propels the clippings out much better.
I bought a select cut but waiting to move in to the house to use. You think they could of made the side discharge a little wider as it looks real narrow in all the videos. Because I think some of the issues is due to tall grass it isn’t cut as fine and the long pieces interlockas being pushed out.
nah the chute still clogs with the high lift blade, I have the first edition of the select cut, the 2135SP and even with the high lift which is the default attached blade, the chute sucks.
The high-lift blade helps a little but the discharge design is simply fllawed. It's too small and tries to redirect the grass' momentum far too much. When mowing stuff like this I use a bungee to hold the entire rear flap open (sans discharge nozzle) slightly and let the grass come out as it pleases. Much better.
@@jeremybelcher6681 I was cutting up some dry leaves and the side chute is basically useless and clogged easily. When I get my 3d printer setup I might try to print up a new design. Mostly I’ll prob just use the bagger for the leaves this fall.

I recently purchased the LM2110. It is not self propelled as I have an ordinary level minimal front and backyard lawns. Previously had a Worx lawn mower but it had no cutting power. My grass is not at normal growth (still early in the Reno area season). Love the power. I wanted power but I do not have the strength for a pull start gas mower. I also like warranty. Later in the season and after applying fertilizer and have growth to lawns, will know more, but this video definitely verifies my decision.
My +20 old Victa would never hesitate cuting taller grass, wish didn't give it away when I switched to Ego. Electric mowers have a long way to catch up.
We always had a gas mower and we like gas mowers the best especially our Honda mower we have now with the blade control where we can push it with the motor on without the blades spinning
Thanks for the video. I have a 200' ditch that's not that wide but one side is steeper on one side. After seeing this, my ditch would be a piece of cake for this mower. Thanks again.
You should have received a second blade for the bagging to work. That same blade needs to be used for the discharge. It creates more fan to throw the grass vs mulch.
You actually get three blades with the 10aH battery version; a mulching blade, high-lift blade, and a efficiency blade. The High-lift blade is designed to work with the discharge but still leave a lot to be desired. This rear side discharge system has never worked well on the Egos.
Debating this mower in the aluminum or polycarbonate deck. I have a very thick lawn, 12k sq ft of KBG grass, huge oak and maple leaves that drop basketball sized leaves in the fall. I use my current Honda HRX 217HYA 200cc with hydrostatic transmission and have zero issues it cuts like a dream. I also use it to vacuum/bag trimmed yews, hydrangeas, etc, after pruning. However, I'm getting older and like the appeal of electric. My concerns are as follows: 1) Will this mower leave clumps, lines, and trails of grass while mowing 2) I've read reviews that this will not pick up/vacuum leaves very well even with the high lift blades installed (doesn't come with the mower, apparently) 3) Debating on getting two 12ah batteries buying mower by itself or the 10ah battery and charger combo and one additional 12ah battery as I want to be sure I can finish my tasks, I'd prefer a super fast dual battery charger if they make one 4) Most importantly, I've read where Ego customer service is a joke, and if your mower stops working, you're helpless and essentially have a very expensive paper weight due to no local dealer support I'd appreciate any and all feedback or suggestions 😊
i just got the same mower..... it rained last night, i have thick st augistine grass that was 6' long and it had no trouble cutting it to 3 1/2' inches.... i live in south mississippi and grass grows like weeds
That lawnmower is a beast! Yes, I would say that cutting wet waist high grass with a push mower vs a riding mower is definately a torture test. Either way, keeping your grass shorter along the front ditch should help dry things out and also keep you mosquito population down. However, I would recommend resharpening the blades more frequently, or if you are like me, just replacing them and have a spare set ready to go. PS: Your 1 Bar could be borderline red, as lithium batteries hold full charge right up to the end and drop off dramatically. QUESTION: Any problem with the front staying down over level ground/bumps? When I looked at the mowers (now carried by Lowe's) they seemed back end heavy w/o a battery in.
Me personally I'd rather live in a jungle sipping cold drinks than put up with torture, My people own very large jungles and my lawn becoming a jungle is better than grasscutter torture. Ya.
Cutting out is a way to save the blade. Mine will stop if hits something & blink orange, then will take a few seconds & can restart. I have a different model from 5 years ago (EGO). I also mow through thick grass. Still going after 5 years.
Yes.I'm very interested in purchasing SP EGO Rechargeable mower only after you've shown a video after using yours for 15 times. But here in RSA where I've bought several mowers, each broken immediately when 2 years guarantee expires ,never heard of self propelled (with my hips and back problems & being 72years of age.Your price in USA ($600)e'quates to + -R 11,000 which money well spent for the pleasure of SP model.
I use my 21" mower pretty much exclusively to mow down cover crop in the garden including some semi-woody stemmed plants and to shred large amounts of leaves in the fall. Do you think an EGO are rugged enough to hold up with consistent use like this? I definitely put my mower under a lot of load when I do these things, the engine RPMs will drop down and not uncommonly the motor will just be killed (temporarily). I have a Honda HRC216 commercial mower that has held up fine but at 30 years old it is probably nearing its end.
For that sort of use, torque is the biggest factor and when it comes to torque, elec is king. These elec mowers act opposite of what you think. Instead of bogging down, it asks for more RPM's until it gets to a point where it says "that's enough" and it will cut out. I can't guarantee it will work, but I have to say I was impressed for sure.
I just bought the Ego 2 stage snow blower. I’m very interested in this mower but I think I’ll wait until next Spring since the season is almost over here. Maybe it’ll go on sale.
I ordered the 2 stage snow blower as well and waiting for it to come in and saw that they had this mower at lowes in stock so picked it up - excited to see how this performs this weekend (replacing a greenworks 20inch 2 blade that’s lasted me for the past 8 or so years).
I have an older model Ego mower and I have no idea how it would perform in that high of grass but I suspect it wouldn't do well at all and would probably quit multiple times. I'm not surprised that you had problems with the side discharge. I frequently have problems with the side discharge getting clogged on my Ego mower and that is with me mowing normal height grass but dropped down to a lower setting. I finally gave up on the side discharge and I just mulch now. I do like the Ego mowers but my complaint is a typical one - having to pay $200 to $350 for a new battery every 4 to 6 years. Granted, that's what batteries cost for all of these battery-powered mowers.
My ryobi dies in 20 min after half of my, not very tall grass, not very big front lawn. Second battery just died so can only mow half of my lawn at a time. Also I work alot and can't get to it as often as I should so my back yard gets knee-ish hieght. Think I'm upgrading.
One of my neighbors bought an ECO mower and has had trouble with it since the start. He has to mow a couple times a week for it to look halfway decent. When I bought my Greenworks 25" 80V mower and let him use it he was pissed he "wasted his money" (his words) on the Eco. Even after sharpening the blades on his mower it bogs down and gives a poor cut regardless of using a mulching or cutting blades.
Im quite shocked it doesnt shut off in that tall of grass. Just bought the weedeater and considering the mower. May wait till next season tho its a bit late and mine works fine for now
It's a good mower but the side discharge wasn't thought out well by Ego. The new 22 inch aluminum deck model has a redesigned side discharge that's supposedly fixed the issue.
1 week ago i came back from holiday, the grass on my garden was tall and silly wet. Used my 100 pound Flymo which i only uses 2 times failed! The wet grass jammed the blades and stop working. Would love to get the Ego but my budget doesn't allow it, when with a cheep Bocsh i see how that one goes
Ive been having issues when cutting tall grass like this where the mower cuts out and does not start. When I attempt to start it, the green led flashes (indicating that the handle is not pulled out al the way, although it definitely is). This only happens when there is a lot of stress on the mower. has anyone else had this issue?
Normally grass this long would be better to use the edge trimmer first then use a lawn mower to make it look better, but for a torture test this worked out great lol
Pro tip dont let the discharged grass shot towards the tall grass. Instead let the discharged grass shot towards whats already been cut. That way your not cutting all the grass on top of already cut grass. Im sure a gas lawnmower would have stalled out with that tall wet grass to.
Do you find that it is missing some areas when mowing I have seen some reviews that say it just lays parts of the grass down and are you getting good battery life out of it just wanted to know before forking up 700 dollars lol
I just love how quiet and vibration free it is with a beautiful cut. Really happy with the Ego and their other tools are also great. Battery charge time is so quick which is another bonus. I would never go back to gas.
How do you think that mower would handle cutting along a ditch at an angle up to 45 degrees rather than up and down across it? I destroyed my gas mower by cutting at an angle and throwing oil where it should not go. I'm thinking an electric might work. I won't be cutting any trees with it though! Ha!
good torture test, but you left the mulching blade on. The high lift blade would work better, but wet and ultra long grass won't cut well with ANY push more.
The reason it is not tossing out the grass well is you are using the wrong blade . You are using the standard and mulcher blade. You need to use the curvy blade that sucks the grass up and bags or discharges.
If your thinking ego mower or wiper sniper or a blower total can recommend it’s the best I don’t know what this bloke is doing but he has the mulching blade on witch he didn’t have to side discharge but hey it’s a awesome mower easy as it can be
Do you really think it would have worked in that grass without the discharge chute? If you think so, then you are the bloke. :) Sure it would have worked better with the high lift blade, but zero chance it mulches that hay field without a side discharge. Hey what the heck is a wiper sniper? LOL
The side discharge doesn't work well with long grass, you'd be better with a mulching blade and the plug for the test. Or the high lift bagger blade with bag.
Damn, my gas mower finally completely crapped out recently, and I literally just bought a new gas mower within the past hour or so. I had been on the fence about getting an electric mower, because I have a relatively big yard (about 1/2 acre), and I assumed the electric mowers either wouldn't get it finished in one go, and/or they'd bog down a lot if I let the grass get too long. Should've watched this video first. It's really leaning me toward cancelling that order for the gas powered, and go ahead and invest a little extra cash and make that leap to electric. Hmmmm. 🤔
It is for real, this mower will cut tall tall grass, on mine you can see the battery drain rapidly, slap it on the charger and in an hour you can do it again.
I wish someone would do a real life battery life test because it seems these things are finally ready for prime time. But if I spend $850 on a mower, I want to know how long it might be before I have to buy another $500 battery. My current Toro super recycler mower is from 2004 and it's still going. But when it finally dies, I'm seriously considering an electric mower. Hopefully, people will have a better idea of battery life before I'm ready to buy one.
I have an EGO battery from 5 years ago on EGO push mower. I also run thru tall grass. I'd say my battery gives out faster than when first got it, but still works & recharges. I'm an older lady, so doing shorter sessions to push mow (even when just walking around behind it) is actually a feature. :-) But wouldn't trade the mower for gas again! We spent $650 for the mower 5 years ago with 1 battery. I'm debating about getting a new battery, as well as debating about upgrading to an EGO riding mower.
@@MegF142857 MOst people seem to throw the old battery away, sell the mower for whatever they can get and get a whole new mower. I've been using the same gas mower since 2005 so I'm sticking with that for now. And then another good used gas mower.
The problem with electric mowers is they aren’t standardized at all. Gas mowers, for the most part can share parts and are abundant. These are all very specific designs and share no commonalities with each other. Not to mention the cost of replacing batteries once they ware out, and who knows if they will even be producing the same batteries when that time comes.. maybe in few years things will start to fall into place, but right now I’ll stick to gas mowers.
Thanks for the torture test. So many videos out there where they're cutting already perfect lawns that don't need to be cut.
Yup, and calling it VERY LONG GRASS lol this video is more my situation
Finally someone that's cutting a very long grass. Thank you

2) I've read reviews that this will not pick up/vacuum leaves very well even with the high lift blades installed (doesn't come with the mower, apparently)
3) Debating on getting two 12ah batteries buying mower by itself or the 10ah battery and charger combo and one additional 12ah battery as I want to be sure I can finish my tasks, I'd prefer a super fast dual battery charger if they make one
4) Most importantly, I've read where Ego customer service is a joke, and if your mower stops working, you're helpless and essentially have a very expensive paper weight due to no local dealer support
I'd appreciate any and all feedback or suggestions 😊
i just got the same mower..... it rained last night, i have thick st augistine grass that was 6' long and it had no trouble cutting it to 3 1/2' inches.... i live in south mississippi and grass grows like weeds
Welp, I'm sold now. Heading to Amazon and pulling the trigger. Appreciate it.
Ya.
That thing’s a beast! Nice torture test!
You will love this mower!
Great video. Make sure you keep the blades sharp after mowing stuff like that.
That's some seriously thick and tall grass!
I've got one of these ... I love it ... and it came with the charger and 2 10 Amp hour batteries... but no side chute 😮
The LM2156SP is on sale at Lowe’s. Thinking of getting it but worried about how well it cuts with how fast my grass grows in spring.
I ended up getting it. Battery lasts perfectly for my tiny yard in heavy mowing. I have 1/6th of an acre with a small house footprint.
@@ChunkyMonkaayyy I have the 2130. EGO does great on Settings 1-3. Setting 4-7, will leave some stragglers if using the mulching blade.
Cutting out is a way to save the blade. Mine will stop if hits something & blink orange, then will take a few seconds & can restart. I have a different model from 5 years ago (EGO). I also mow through thick grass. Still going after 5 years.
Great video. Now I'm convinced to get an E-GO mower over other brands.
High Lift blade will provide the best mulch or bagging on this XP mower.
Fantastic review, I'm sold on it 👍
My ryobi dies in 20 min after half of my, not very tall grass, not very big front lawn. Second battery just died so can only mow half of my lawn at a time. Also I work alot and can't get to it as often as I should so my back yard gets knee-ish hieght. Think I'm upgrading.
Best mower I’ve ever owned!
Looks like the mulching blade not surebthats meant to use with the side discharge
It looks like the side discharge is a bit of a design flaw if the grass builds up and blocks the passage. Unless the wet grass caused it.
Im quite shocked it doesnt shut off in that tall of grass. Just bought the weedeater and considering the mower. May wait till next season tho its a bit late and mine works fine for now
I was shocked too. I bet a 10ah battery in there would be awesome.
This only happens when there is a lot of stress on the mower. has anyone else had this issue?
good review, no one puts them through a real test.
Unfortunately mine stops when grass is too high and heavy…I am always mulching.
Do you find that it is missing some areas when mowing I have seen some reviews that say it just lays parts of the grass down and are you getting good battery life out of it just wanted to know before forking up 700 dollars lol
I used this today for the first time and it was such a pleasure
Yeah it actually makes it kind of fun. :)
@@3RiversFishingAdventures absolutely, I really enjoyed it
I just love how quiet and vibration free it is with a beautiful cut.
Ha!
I think if you can handle it, than the mower can handle it. The angle shouldn't create any issues.
Thanks! I think I'll try it.
good torture test, but you left the mulching blade on. The high lift blade would work better, but wet and ultra long grass won't cut well with ANY push more.
So much power. No gas powered mower would ever do that.
Mate you are the best
Wrong blade for discharging. use highlift or the extended run blade.
Pretty impressive! Have you had it overheat at all? I have an Ego weed eater and I'm thinking about getting the mower too.
Nope, zero overheating issues
@@3RiversFishingAdventures good to know. Thank you!
I'm Convinced!
LOL
Best part of the video was you swallowing the bug! Protein!
There goes that new blade.
The side discharge doesn't work well with long grass, you'd be better with a mulching blade and the plug for the test. Or the high lift bagger blade with bag.
Did you buy warranty or battery warranty? I hear that they are really expensive and it may permanently die on you in the future.
Ego batteries come with a 3 year warranty I believe. Tools, 5 year.
Thank you so much!
That poor EGO.😞 How could you?
Cut grass that thick better have alot of batteries.
Nice❤ I enjoyed your video
RoFL, he even went after the tree. All with the mulching system on it.
wrong blades for side discharge and tall grass. needs the high lift not the mulch
Is this the 8.3 ft-lb of torque model?
Yes
That’s crazy!
Savage!
I'm debating about getting a new battery, as well as debating about upgrading to an EGO riding mower.
you can just buy a knockoff lower capacity battery for it to have a spare. They're about $180.00
@@MegF142857 MOst people seem to throw the old battery away, sell the mower for whatever they can get and get a whole new mower. I've been using the same gas mower since 2005 so I'm sticking with that for now. And then another good used gas mower.
Torture has never been an issue, it's the battery life dying after cutting 500 sqft and batteries costing $200+
Will the ego last you 20 years?
@@brucey5585 probably
I am surprised. My EGO lawn mower can barely handle grass that is 3 inches high.
Holy cow!
💯💯💯
The problem with electric mowers is they aren’t standardized at all. Gas mowers, for the most part can share parts and are abundant. These are all very specific designs and share no commonalities with each other. Not to mention the cost of replacing batteries once they ware out, and who knows if they will even be producing the same batteries when that time comes.. maybe in few years things will start to fall into place, but right now I’ll stick to gas mowers.
3:30 Torture begins 🌿😬🌿
After this test you better sharpen the blade on that mower!
I saw a guy torturing a milwaukee mower but he can't kill it.
Nice mower! But damn that's a job for a weedwacker
