Spike's completely boneheaded attempts to be someone Buffy would want to date are definitely a highlight of the season for me, between this and honestly thinking that demanding credit for not feeding from bleeding disaster victims would make her like him.
@@Talisguy This proves what Buffy and Angel are correct in that life forms without souls cannot love. They can only approximate it. @@arc7375 I'm with Dru. Vampires can love, just not healthily. It's not even necessary for the plot - Dawn was clearly putting it together from the other details he wrote about the Key, things that weren't nearly as dangerous to write.

Juliet Landau comes from a show business family. Her mother is Barbara Bain of tv's "Mission: Impossible" fame. Her father is Oscar winner Martin Landau.
The "It's Summers blood" comment from Buffy strikes me as significant. Remember, just before Dawn appeared in Sunnydale, so did Dracula. Dracula had never been mentioned, and he is nothing like a Buffyverse vampire. I think the Monks created Dracula, his big honkin' castle, and Anya and Spike's memories of Dracula, in order to get Buffy's blood, so that they could use it to create Dawn.
I think so too or he was used/possessed to get it. If it's really him, he could have helped the monks willingly if there was something in it for him or was possessed by the monks. That castle didn't belong there, that entire episode felt like a dream. Dawn then appears at the end of the episode. In retrospect, it checks out to me.
Crush is the episode I think a lot of the audience needed, to remind us all that while Spike is a great character with a great performance and is so much fun on the screen he's also the child murdering serial killer who thinks he's in love but then shows that "love" by kidnapping and threatening to murder Buffy. Angel tells Darla when she comes back that he thought they could love, but it was a lie that he didn't realize until he got his soul back. The love vampires feel seems real to them, but isn't actually love. Now we can see it on clear display here and see exactly how twisted and sick vampire "love" actually is.
They've been hinting at the Ben/Glory thing since episode six. Remember when Glory had a roof fall on her in episode five and she didn't break out until hours later, despite it looking like freeing herself took minimal effort when she finally did it? She must have changed back into Ben after the ceiling fell and he must have been stuck under the rubble for hours.
Some brilliant dramatic scenes in this episode Blood Ties. The scene where Dawn cuts herself was so hard to watch, that coupled with the fact that she is realising that her life has been a lie, and she doesn't know her true belonging. Spike has always spoke the truth to Buffy, and is always the most perceptive all them all. Some light relief when he says to Buffy 'not only is she a blob of energy but also a 14 year old hormone bomb' The Ben/Glory reveal incredible at the time. Such a powerful scene at the end when Buffy joins hands with Dawn saying it was 'Summers Blood' prophetic words indeed. A truly amazing arc now building in the S5.
I realized at the Patreon plug that 5-16 was coming and was immediately overcome with excitement and dread. I'm glad they've officially seen it so I can mention that I was overcome with excitement and dread. I love rewatcing Buffy with the Bandwagon Boys (made audible happy squeals when I realized today was Thursday) , and while it's a heart-rending episode coming, it's also pivotal and beautifully acted. As for these episodes, I'm fairly certain the remaining Glory/Ben questions get answered soon, but the analysis was super insightful and more in-depth than I was when I first watched it. I truly enjoy going on this journey with y'all. ❤
Crush is an important episode going forward. Spike's infatuation with Buffy now reaching crazy levels, stealing Buffy's clothing, and have Harmony (possibly the most entertaining character in the Buffyverse) dress up cosplaying as Buffy. We have the Domino effect here of Dawn crushing on Spike, Spike crushing on Buffy etc, and great comedy moment with Xander getting jealous about the fact that he is no longer Dawn's crush.
Blood Ties is amazing with the great way it doesn't spoon feed exposition but allows people to gather info and interpret it in their own ways. Crush is like a telenovela, pull up the love interest, bring in the ex and have the current GF all together for the mess and let them duke it out.
I love Glory as a villain so much. She is on scream I FEAR for the characters in a way no other villain had me. That scene with her and Dawn is so tense
Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Thursday evening with Sergio & Cody! 😊 Two really good episodes for this evening. Episode 5x13: Dawn learns that she is the mysterious Key. Episode 5x14: Just as Buffy learns about Spike's feelings for her, Drusilla returns to Sunnydale. Already looking forward to the episode reactions for next week. 😊
I've been watching Ashleigh Burton's reactions to Buffy on Wednesday, too, so I get Buffy two nights a week! Look forward to it all day when I'm working. She is only on s2 but she does three eps per week so she's really cruising along (she did mention the possibility of taking a break after the end of this season IF people wanted her to try something new- you can imagine how that went).
It's so weird. I know Ben was with Dawn before Glory showed up, but I'm guessing he ran away or something. I don't see how they could be connected 🤷🏾♂️
When Dawn asks “am I real? Am I anything?” My heart shatters into a million pieces. I love my little sister more than anything in the world, I just wanted to hug her.
“Eeewww!..”it’s not blood, it’s bourbon..”..”….eeeeewwwWWW!” So many classic lines. If you’ve never seen Space:1999 it’s worth seeing as classic sci-fi, but Juliet’s father is Martin Landau who stars with his wife Barbara Bain, and Juliet is a dead ringer for her dad and you can also see her mom in her as well. Space 1999 first season was brilliant, then suffered from studio intervention and only lasted the next season.
The reason Spike seems dressed strangely in Crush is because he is dressed exactly how Riley dressed most of the time. Short leather jacket, tie, trousers, button down shirt, nice shoes.
I love when you guys share your theories and explain why you think them - of course they aren’t all correct because the show is tricksy, but you guys have great powers of observation and your theories are well crafted even if incorrect 😁😁
It was a missed trick that in an episode where one learns of one's true nature it could've been themetically rich if we learnt of the connection between Ben and Glory.
I don't think it was a "tell me the lie I want to hear" thing or a, "make yourself have feelings for me Or Else!" thing so much as "I know I'm usually dead right about reading people, their behaviour, what they're hiding, and I Believe that this thing is true, so bloody admit to it already!" Cuz usually he *does* read people's feeling pretty well, tho he may not realize his judgement is clouded when it involves *himself*. Spike is not a "doubt my own convictions" kind of guy, lol. And yeah, Dru is one of the Best characters of the Buffyverse. Spike, Dru, Anya, Giles, Willow are my top five.💚 but the next tier down are "hot on the heels" of those five, lol.
Order of Aurelius vampires are different. Only Angelus is incapable of love. Darla loves him, the Master loved Darla and Dru and Spike clearly loved each other. Some believe it's because their great sire was the Master and he was so VERY old and closer connected to the first Vampire.
Buffy birthday episode! Glory lore exposition. Telling the group about Dawn! Glory being a badass as usual! 🙌🏼 Okay just doing spells in the middle of the public street now. Aww everyone’s treating Dawn differently now. “You make a very pretty little girl.” Anya I can’t 😂 Dawn with the shade to Buffy 💀 Anya wanting Buffy’s presents 🖤 Dawn’s gift! Not her sneaking out. Spike with a gift for Buffy 🥰 Spike & Dawn’s interaction was cute! Dawn figuring it out! 🤯 Dawn breaking my heart 💔 Michelle T crushed it! Ben having none of Glory giving him ultimatums. Setting fires & running away? Spike calling Dawn niblet is actually wholesome. Glory & Ben siblings? Not telling Ben! Wait what? Ben turned into Glory? Glory interrogating Dawn was tense. “Conversation’s over hell bitch!” Yes Buffy 🙌🏼 The hospital fight scene was great. “He’s NOT my boyfriend” 😂 Buffy taking the hit for Dawn! Willow & Tara’s spell teleporting Glory 🙌🏼 Willow passing out 😳 Glory teleporting into the sky 💀 Buffy’s sister speech to Dawn 😭 WHAT A RIDE THAT EPISODE WAS! 🔥 Liking Sergio’s theory about Ben/Glory being one perhaps 🤔 But also Cody’s theory 😂 Idk why I’m still on the Pandora/guardian train but probably wrong lol. Can’t wait til we get the full reveal! Every time I see the word crush my brain starts singing Jennifer Paige 😂 Okay Bronze getting upgraded. Aww Spike was trying with Buffy. Him stealing Xander’s money after he was rude to him 😂 Willow’s persisting headaches from the spell 😢 Poor Spike seeing Buffy & Ben. Train station massacre! 😳 Not Spike having Buffy’s sweater 😂 Harmony appearance 🙌🏼 Not her roleplaying as Buffy! 🙈 Spike hunchback of Notre Dame correlation. Dawn going to visit Spike. “I feel safe with you…Take that back” 😂 Not Dawn having a crush on Spike! Oop…Dawn spilling the Spike tea ☕️ Not Xander laughing at Spike crushing on Buffy. Spike just hanging with the Summers’ fam 💚 “Why don’t you go hit on Giles?” 💀 Spike/Buffy stakeout. The feelings are out in the open now. Aww Poor Spike. Drusilla returns! With exposition 🙌🏼 Love triangle…er…square? Aww not kicking Harmony to the curb. Spike/Dru on the dance floor 🔥 Love Willow & Joyce’s talk with Buffy about Spike. Him pushing through the pain from the chip! Not Her finding the Buffy shrine! Dru with the cattle-prod! Spike shocking Dru! Spike’s confession to Buffy. Not Dru laughing at him. Spike with the ultimatum 😳 Spike’s rant! Harmony shooting Spike! The cave fights! 🔥 Aww the boundary is back for Spike on the house. Such a MESSY episode! I absolutely LOVED it! 💚 Spike’s love life was on full display this ep. Drusilla ALWAYS delivers. Possibly the most ICONIC character ever 🙌🏼 I feel bad for Spike but I also get where Buffy’s coming from. Interested to see where the story goes from here! Excellent breakdown & reactions guys! 🖤
Some of the fanbase didn't like Dawn. Probably due to her origins, but I liked her. Michelle Trachtenberg really is an amazing actress and plays it so wonderfully. This entire cast kills it in the acting game, I love this show.
Druscilla's response to Buffy saying vamps can't love is one of my theories about her and Spike. I believe that William was an empath, so that's why both of them are anomalies. Both had supernatural abilities as humans, so that intensified once their demon told hold of their vessels. Spike is definitely unlike any other vamp. He's been using those skills to help his predatory nature for hunting his prey. His intuition is always on point and can read people like an open book, when everyone else is clueless. Think back to Willow in Something Blue. Giles and Buffy were thinking she was fine, when Spike chimed in and asked if they were blind or something. That she was barely hanging on. Or when he knew what to say to get into everybodies head with their insecurities in the episode when he was trying to stake himself with Xander's table and then again in The Yoko Factor episode. Oooh, that just reminded me of a fun trivia fact. That episode was called the Yoko Factor because of Yoko Ono being blamed for breaking up the Beatles...because she married John Lennon after their affair that ended his first marriage. In season 2, episode one..called When She Was Bad. Buffy and the Scoobies were at the Bronze, and Buffy sexually taunted Xander with a sexy dance to the song Sugar Water. The Band playing was in fact Sean Lennon's (John and Yoko's son) band. He was on keyboard.
I respectfully disagree. All vampires retain an echo of their humanity, and it serves as the template for the personality of their vampire self. The Judge in season 2 stated that Spike and Dru stank of humanity, and that they shared affection and jealousy. And was able to burn the scholar vampire because of his present humanity. This is standard for vampires. The true exception is Angel(us), who has utterly _no_ humanity in him. The Judge was unable to burn him and stated there was no humanity present. Angelus is unique because he’s the vampire equivalent of what a genuine psychopath would be to the average human. Even the Master stated Angel was the single most vicious creature he’d ever met. I also don’t think Spike has any powers as a human. He was, however, a deeply sentimental, empathic person by nature, something reflected in his poetry. And his sentimentality simply was preserved as a vampire, making him the gallant knight for Drusilla (and later Buffy and Dawn). It’s a case of where the vampire used the echo of the human as the template for itself. Drusilla has psychic powers because as a human, she was a pure, Holy woman that was destined to become a Saint. And they manifested in the form of visions, not unlike the visions sent from the Powers that Be to Doyle and Cordy. And this was preserved when she became a vampire.
@@alooncnej4696 The Master, Drusilla and Dracula have powers. And likely more. Much like how humans can learn magic, some vampires learn magic too. Which was confirmed with Dracula - Spike stated that his powers come from the Romani - which of course is familiar to us, as a Romani clan were the ones to curse Angel with his soul, and Jenny Calender was a Romani pagan witch.
I think Spike does love Buffy, but because he has no soul the expression of his love is obsessive and toxic. Spike is definitely unique like Dru, he can read people and a situation like no one else. He is the only soulless vampire we saw help Buffy, I think he went against Angelus to get Dru back, but also because he enjoyed the human world as it was. He enjoys music, tv shows, regular food... He also takes the time to make his "home" feel homey, cares about his appearance.
Vampires in this universe are absolutely capable of love; but BtVS tells us that feeling love is way less important ultimately than what you DO with that love. If you don't have a soul, like a vampire doesn't, even a reciprocated love ends up being expressed as little more than obsession and jealousy (in other words, the most negative aspects of love-the-feeling). Spike and Dru together, as much as they loved each other, made each other FAR WORSE than they would have been individually. Love didn't save them, there. The truest and best parts of love are selfless, and if you don't have a soul, as the Buffyverse defines it, anyway, then you're not CAPABLE of being truly selfless. Makes you think about what Spike's going to do from here, and what kind of problem this is gonna be for Buffy and the gang from here on out...
I feel bad for Dru. She finally gets herself a real demon, with slime and antlers and everything, and the writers make her crawl back to freakin' Spike, just so they can show how much he wuvs Buffy. Blah.
Wow. That was so weird, the way that scene was edited, with Ben and Dawn. Suddenly Ben is gone and Glory is there. Like what happened? And why are you guys talking about possession or something? It’s almost like you’re suggesting the two are connected somehow.
imo i think willow and xander were in the wrong about knowing about dawn. theyre little extra comments to buffy during the conversation never sat right with me. buffy doesnt have to tell them anything. dont come for me
I love how Buffy just accepts Dawn is her sister without questioning much. She is real for her and that's enough. Also, I think there must be some sort of... connection between Glory and Ben, you think? Mmmhhh...
Always nice to see Drusilla, but Crush is the weakest Dru episode so far. I guess after the more independent Dru it's annoying to see her just appear to show Spike prefers Buffy now.
I love your point of Spike being lovesick making him be able to be good. And Buffy in denial that vampires can love, when Spike and Drusilla, both actual vampires with experience, say they can. It’s so interesting.
So are they saying there is come kind of connection between Ben and Glory? Btw, since they are a week ahead on Patreon, can someone do a check on Serg and Codi to make sure they are okay? ; )
Spike, before he fell for Buffy would have been more than happy to tell her about how Darla was back & that Angel was obsessing about her because that would have upset her & give him the upper hand. But now he doesn't want to upset her, so he won't tell Buffy about what's happening, because there's always the possibility that Buffy might rush to help Angel in dealing with Darla.
wait wait wait, are you trying to tell me that Glory just took Ben's body over? That seems crazy, I'm not sure where she came from, or where Ben went, If I'm being honest.
Unfortunately a lot of memorable moments are deleted from 14. The moment when Dawn said that she feels save around Spike and he choked on it. A lot from the moment when Buffy confronted Spike and they had a conversation, even his short speech is only for 10 seconds when he confesses his love to her and when he yells at them later. I know about copyright but you can check other videos and some they look different. I believe you can afford to do more.

Honestly i think the theme of Buffy is chosen family.
I recently listened to a podcast with Juliet, she was talking about how her parents were narcissists. Never knew she went through all that.
James Marsters is so perfect in 'Crush'.
Awww, you cut out both the great joke with Buffy sitting on that train, and the reveal of a doll in an overhead bin there (which screams “Dru”).
Spike scaring himself with his own story 😂
Interesting theories about some sort of connection between Ben and Glory, the brother/sister aspect is interesting.
Oh my God, I'm so worried for them, for the next week!
Hi just a note - the buffy reaction for s4 when buffy snd faith switch bodies isnt in the playlist!
Completely conflicted about next week's installment, While I love all of your content I am dreading your next Buffy Ep.
I think this episode shows that Buffy shouldn't have told the Scoobies, not even Giles.
The reason Spike seems dressed strangely in Crush is because he is dressed exactly how Riley dressed most of the time. Short leather jacket, tie, trousers, button down shirt, nice shoes.
Great insights. But... do you guys think there's a connection between Ben and Glory?
I love when you guys share your theories and explain why you think them - of course they aren’t all correct because the show is tricksy, but you guys have great powers of observation and your theories are well crafted even if incorrect 😁😁
Good stuff, guys!
So you're saying there is some sort of link between Ben and Glory?
Oh no. Are you a week ahead on Patreon? Omg
im dreading next week
It was a missed trick that in an episode where one learns of one's true nature it could've been themetically rich if we learnt of the connection between Ben and Glory.
That wasn't missed. They did give us that moment here, just without all the details. Lol.
So you're suggesting there is a connection between Ben and Glory?
Poor Dawn. She's the key and also getting blamed for sweater theft. Smh
Juliet Landau is flipping awesome. I would hate if they killed off her character, Drusilla, because she is such a compelling, complex villain.
YESSS!!! I WAS WAITING FOR CRUSH!!!!❤❤❤❤
It's almost as if these guys suspect some sort of connection between Ben and Glory.
Spike gave that Bridgerton declaration of love.
I can’t wait for ep 15, 16! 🔥
Great reaction.
Okay so now that everyone knows about Dawn...do we suspect a relationship of some kind between Ben and Glory? 🤔
Ben ...and Glory...share a connection? 🤔
I don't think it was a "tell me the lie I want to hear" thing or a, "make yourself have feelings for me Or Else!" thing so much as "I know I'm usually dead right about reading people, their behaviour, what they're hiding, and I Believe that this thing is true, so bloody admit to it already!"
Cuz usually he *does* read people's feeling pretty well, tho he may not realize his judgement is clouded when it involves *himself*.
Wait, are you saying that somehow Ben and Glory are connected?
He was on keyboard.
there are only The Master and Drusilla who have supernatural abilities no ? And i always wonder why
I love you Codyyyyyyyyyyyy 🥰😘
I'm not ready for the 5x16
I just want to know the end of Spike’s story.
I❤These Episodes!
I feel bad for Dru. She finally gets herself a real demon, with slime and antlers and everything, and the writers make her crawl back to freakin' Spike, just so they can show how much he wuvs Buffy. Blah.
So, you guys suspect there is a connection between Ben and Glory.
Like they're roomates. I suppose its possible.
Wow. That was so weird, the way that scene was edited, with Ben and Dawn. Suddenly Ben is gone and Glory is there. Like what happened? And why are you guys talking about possession or something? It’s almost like you’re suggesting the two are connected somehow.
yessss finally
I like spike but I hate the obsession he starts to have of Buffy
so your telling me that ben is glory!? and that glory is ben? wait what, ben is glory? lol
Are you suggesting that there is some kind of connection between Ben and glory??
@SpookyKnickers, yes but what kind??
So what we’re thinking is that there’s a link between Ben and Glory?
Can't wait for next week. I hope you had tissues nearby
Now we know you've seen next week (on patron) . Can we skip it😭😭😭
imo i think willow and xander were in the wrong about knowing about dawn. theyre little extra comments to buffy during the conversation never sat right with me. buffy doesnt have to tell them anything. dont come for me
I love how Buffy just accepts Dawn is her sister without questioning much.
Spoilers for next week
Cody, you've got a big storm coming
It's already up on Patreon. It was a hard watch 😥
I love your point of Spike being lovesick making him be able to be good. And Buffy in denial that vampires can love, when Spike and Drusilla, both actual vampires with experience, say they can. It’s so interesting.
“She delivers “ as does James who IMO makes ever episode he’s miles better.
They are iconic as a duo.
So are they saying there is come kind of connection between Ben and Glory? Btw, since they are a week ahead on Patreon, can someone do a check on Serg and Codi to make sure they are okay? ; )
I’m sure they’re not okay. And we are all collectively not okay _in advance._
So when are the next 2 dropping?
So you're saying Ben and Glory have a connection? 🤨
Well, _obviously._
But of what kind?
First!!
wait wait wait, are you trying to tell me that Glory just took Ben's body over? That seems crazy, I'm not sure where she came from, or where Ben went, If I'm being honest.
Are you implying there’s a connection between Ben and Glory?
Unfortunately a lot of memorable moments are deleted from 14. The moment when Dawn said that she feels save around Spike and he choked on it. A lot from the moment when Buffy confronted Spike and they had a conversation, even his short speech is only for 10 seconds when he confesses his love to her and when he yells at them later. I know about copyright but you can check other videos and some they look different. I believe you can afford to do more.
Spike was evil so he challenges Buffy in ways that are good for her like in how she thinks.
Too many girls for you to handle, Spike, my boy. You can handle 2 but 3 is too much, dude. 😃
