@migmit I mostly disagree. I think he felt something, but I don’t see how it can be called love (see my longer comment elsewhere for a longer explanation of my thoughts).
I think he loved her, but he's evil, so he's incapable of loving selflessly. If Faith had ever turned on him, he absolutely would've killed her without hesitation because he can only ever love himself first.
@@LauraM-kr9wv Exactly. His "love" was conditional. Also he would treat her like a child (telling her not to jump her bed with her shoes on, warning her not to put someone's eye out with her knife unless he told her to, saying he'll take away her gifts if she doesn't do as she's told). Even in his goodbye video to her, he tells her she'll be as good as dead without him. That's classic narcissism right there.

And don’t forget the only way Buffy was able to manipulate the Mayor to defeat him in his Olvican form was to use his grief over Faith against him. It’s unquestionable that he loved her. Sincerely. It’s also the case that the Mayor was the one that influenced the cops (and Snyder) to do as he wanted. He informed them of the supernatural, and was likely the only one keeping Faith safe, who was now a well-known murderer. His telling her “there’s no place in the world” for her wasn’t some narcissistic comment - more a statement of fact. And he even provided her a means to switch bodies to live a life without the authorities perusing her. His spirit also possessed animals, and he’d sit at her bedside while in her coma to keep her company. I always thought when faith in Buffy said to forest, “I’m not a killer” it was Faith thinking of herself as Buffy. Buffy isn’t a killer and Faith is Buffy now. Also the scene with Riley, where she goes “what do you want with her?” Faith has never experienced love, Riley loves Buffy. Faith doesn’t understand that without someone wanting some thing from her. The closest person to expressing love to Faith is the mayor and even he required Faith to pay back that “love” with her killing people for him.
Yep; there’s a lot of folks out there (some in this thread) who put forth the notion that he loved her, and I just don’t buy it. See my comment elsewhere in this thread for a slightly longer explanation of my thoughts.
The “I’m _not_ a killer” line, I interpreted as her starting to realise who she is and what she’s done and beginning to process guilt for her actions. In Buffy’s body, she has friends, family, love, a stable home…so instead of living in an “emergency crisis” mode, she’s free to be herself. I read it as her being offended and still in denial about what she’s done. It’s not about acting like Buffy. It’s about her coming to terms with herself.
I was _so_ excited to see you guys react to these episodes the moment season four began! These episodes reinforce the concept that Faith is who Buffy would become if she never had friends or family, and made every wrong decision in life. And it’s very compelling and heartbreaking that the moment Faith is surrounded by people that appreciate her, like the victim she saved at the bronze, friends, a loving mother, unlike the abusive one she had, and a sincere, loving partner, it _frightens_ and unnerves her…because she’s not used to it. And how these sincere acts of love and kindness spark a change in Faith, and we see her so naturally be pulled back into”hero-mode.” The Mayor genuinely loved Faith as a daughter. To the point where he made her a priority over his ascension, and even made her a tape in case she woke up, and a chance to bodyswap so she could live life without being hunted by the authorities. But as an evil man, he only encouraged her to perform progressively more evil deeds, which she did willingly to please him. It shows all Faith ever wanted or needed was sincere love and support - and _that_ was where her loyalties would lie. The final scene where Faith sees herself in the church and beats herself senseless, calling herself a disgusting, murderous bitch, a nothing - it was heartbreaking. The council are indeed trash. If watchers get paid, so should slayers. They should receive a salary, have their accommodation, utilities and all that provided for. Faith was starving in a dingy motel that she couldn’t afford. If she had her own place, with money to buy food and weapons, she could’ve focused on her training and not resorted to the violence and stealing to get what she needed. It’s no wonder she dedicated herself to the Mayor after he literally gave her her own home, clothes, weaponry and food. He may have been evil, but at least he gave a damn about her wellbeing. Faith wasn’t a bad person. But after the accident with the Mayor’s aid, she took on the persona of someone who didn’t really care, and kept performing more and more evil actions to convince herself that she was indeed not bothered, disassociating and convincing herself of her delusion and running from her denial. I’m _so_ glad you guys shared your reaction with us!
Watching Faith begin to understand that Buffy isn't 'stuck up', she's just straight up got trust and love in her life and has the privilege of choosing her morality in a warm and caring environment with her basic needs met. I kind of hate that she gets to understand it, touch it, but then continue to not HAVE any of it. And the council. Well...
@@Bobbin_Hoode It certainly struck a deeply profound chord within her. It took the tiniest nudge to have her dive into evil. And it equally took the slightest gesture of appreciation to catapult her into heroism. We can only hope that the impact of her brief time as Buffy and embracing her destiny was enough to set her on a better trajectory.
Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Thursday evening with Sergio and Cody! 😊 Two of my favorite season 4 episodes tonight. Episode 4x15: Faith wakes up from her coma. And is ready to seek revenge on Buffy. Episode 4x16: This is easily one of my top 10 favorite episodes of the whole series. Both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku did a great job portraying each other's characters. With Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Faith and Eliza Dushku playing Buffy. Already looking forward to the next reactions for next week's episodes. 😊
We had so many body swaps/personality swops etc in this show Giles/The Demon in A New Man, Buffy/Faith in this episode and it seems to be a constant theme in the show. We of course are seeing Faith have great fun in Buffy's body, sexually teasing Spike, but she does the ultimate betrayal technically raping Riley whilst inheriting Buffy's body we know at this point Faith is amoral having tried to sexually assault and murder Xander is S3 Consequences as well. Tara of course uses her powers to deduce that it isn't the real Buffy. A great conversation with Forest and Faith in Buffy's body. A super ending in the church when the two fight again and everything is restored. Riley feels guilty at the end, but he was totally unaware who it was. Faith of course is a great character in the Buffyverse, but an interesting juxtaposition at this point in that Faith with a soul is a murderer and has committed sex crimes, and is as evil as Angel or Spike when they were soulless, even though we see her human side at the end . This episode, and the preceding one were a great two-parter.
She doesn't just rape Riley. She's raping Buffy as well. It's her body she's using to assault Riley and she has nobody's consent for any of it. It's sad to me that Riley is victim blamed for being assaulted. But of course Faith's relationship with sex is transactional and violent. She's too experienced for her age, and it's clearly never been loving or caring. Hence the freak out when Riley is intimately vulnerable with her/buffy.
I remeber having to wait a week to watch the next episode on bbc back in the day. 5 by 5 is also used in Aliens. “Five by five” basically means working perfectly. It's from something called the SINPO (Signal, Interference, Noise, Propagation, and Overall) code. It originated with the military, but it's commonly used to evaluate voice communications of all kinds. “ Five by five” basically means working perfectly.
BtVS really likes the mid-season switcheroo of villains. In S2, Spike is scary in the first half, then he nearly dies and Angel loses his soul and _becomes_ the Big Bad. In S3, Mr. Trick comes in talking a big game, then Faith kills him and joins forces with the Mayor. Now, Dr. Walsh tried to kill Buffy, ended up stabbed by her own creation...
The four notes in the music you picked up on sounds familiar because it's an extremely famous melody called the dies irae! Type "dies irae in movies" into youtube and you'll find it's hidden in a huge number of scores - including Star Wars, The Lion King and Frozen 2. It's often used in creepy, tense or unsettling scenes.
Eliza and Sarah Michelle were both great in these episodes. Also, the chemistry between Alison Hannigan and Amber Benson is off the chain. I love Tara!
These episodes are so awesome! I adore Eliza Dushku. ❤ Both SMG and Eliza did a great job to switch their characters. 👌 Tara and Willow's relationship is very sweet and cute. 😍 Amber Benson is a great addition to the show too. I can't wait for you boys to watch ANGEL next!!! 😁
One moment I really like is when after she slept with Riley, Faith said 'what do you want from her?' In a moment of disassociation or being protective of Buffy despite her feelings towards her.
So pleased to hear you two praising season 4, it gets a lot of flack from the fans but for some of us it's up with the best. These two eps are incredible.
while i love these episodes, i definitely hate how the show treats the riley and faith incident. he would never consent to sleeping with faith, and if someone impersonated riley to sleep with buffy it would be considered SA.
The thing that got me about the body switch was that Faith finally got to see/feel the responsibility and weight that Buffy deals with every day… I think that’s what makes her have to save the people at church and the catalyst for her attacking herself…
@@Bobbin_Hoode And she sees _herself_ [Faith] for what she really is. A disgusting, murderous bitch. Nothing. Being Buffy and being allowed to experience true love and connection, then look upon her true self as a selfish, worthless waste had an enormous impact on Faith.
So the slayers powers pretty much work like she hulk, they are super strong but they can sharpen increase their strength by working out to increase and reach their peaks. Straight out of a coma Faith is still a mystical weapon of mass destruction lol 😅
Faith buried everything deep down and kept a strong exterior like she didn't care. I do think that it was really her talking to Buffy in that dream, revealing to her the mayor's weakness to help stop him. The guilt followed her even after the body swap and she finally sort of faced it, by facing "herself" in that church. Buffy was ready to kill Faith in season 3, but I don't believe that Faith could do it and that's why she lost the fight. Buffy was the only person who could in a sense relate to her, like a sister. It seems like being Buffy for a day made her realize what she did and that she does want to be good.
These episodes are so good, with so many great moments... almost unfair cutting scenes for the reactions... but I understand it lol. SMG and Eliza nailed it the switch bodies thing... it was a great combination of acting, script and directing. Everything made sense and it gave the Faith character more layers instead of making her a simple villain. Not every show using the freaky friday trope can execute it as good as this episode... just saying.
The real question is this: Why wouldn't they simply assassinate Faith after Buffy put her in a coma? Immediately. They were clearly willing to do it in the event. The alternative if she woke up was to try(try...) to imprison the second deadliest human on earth, who is also beautiful, amoral and sexually manipulative for...years? They would(presumably) get another Slayer activated, they would remove Faith as a threat in the event she ever woke up, and they'd save the cost of medical care and surveillance. S4 is a little chaotic(due to the sudden departure of the actress playing Professor Walsh) but it has a lot of the best comedy and at least three of the best episodes of the entire series.
2:51 I've rewatched Buffy *idk HOW MANY times* and I *JUST* caught the "little sis" thing when Sergio pointed it out. All I can say, in the vaguest way possible, is "HOLY SH**!!! THE WRITING!!!"
If you really enjoy watching actors pretend to be other actors, then boy oh boy do I need to ask: have you watched a little show by Joss Whedon called "Dollhouse"? :)
4x15 Going to Spike for help only to have him say I'll steer her in your direction makes me laugh, not just because he says it, but because Xander wasn't right that they were dumb so much as he and Giles should have seen that coming miles away. Its all an amusing situation. 4x16 Faith saying "because it's wrong" sarcastically in the mirror/parodying Buffy, then in a sultry joking manner to Spike, then with all seriousness and truly believing it when saying it to the vampire Boone makes a great arc of hitting rock bottom and realizing she hates herself and wants to be better. She's got a long way to go to get better, though.
I think this episode shows its age how it paints Riley as possibly cheating on Buffy, and the subsequent episode when she’s upset. I think in modern sensibilities people would see it as Riley was raped by Faith, since he essentially was, Riley’s failure to realize that buffy was possessed is not grounds to blame him for being assaulted.
The start where they are making the bed and Faith says 'Little Sis Coming' it will all make sense just be patient. Foreshadowing overload here! Even though I think S4 was not the best of Seasons overall, the stand out episodes and the comedy moments and one liners reached new levels. Faith's awakening dream scene a homage to 'Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption. Great writing again here. Soulless Spike still doing the best comedy ever. Great to see The Mayor in the video, a terrific ending to this episode setting up another great episode to follow. Very much a two parter with the even better next episode Who Are You.
It really is a interesting set of episodes. I can't help but think that it could be interpreted that Faith gr*pped Buffy. She forced Buffy's body into a sexual encounter without Buffy's consent. 😑😑😑 But I do love the early❤❤ Willow & Tara
Sadly, the show depicts Riley as a cheater, when nothing could be further from the truth. Riley was sexually used without knowledge or consent from the person he was with. It’s like a date-r*pe. Riley is a victim here. Sadly, the time the show was airing was not one that was sympathetic to men as victims of domestic or sexual assault. Which is awful. Whenever it’s a woman, the show depicts it, or analogous actions as despicable and traumatising. When it’s _men,_ it’s played for comedy or to then blame them. Like here with Riley.
I freaking LOVE you boys!!!! I know- that's out of nowhere for you, lol. I don't think I've ever commented before, my name is Heather. I've been a Buffy fanatic since it aired... and I've been watching you guys since you started. These are 2 of my favorite episodes EVER. I wanted to tell you, know how everyone jams out to the Buffy theme? I jam out to YOUR theme. Haha every time! Willow and Tara- amazing right??? The acting in these episodes was incredible. Faith and Spike... lmao!!! I love that scene, hahaha. The stuff with Faith and Riley, that absolutely devastated me. Like, imagine being cheated on, but not even being able to be mad about it. I mean, not at Riley, he truly didn't know, and it's not even like it was someone else's body. How bad did it suck though, first time Riley said I love you- it was to Faith. So, last thing i wanna say, Sergio reminds me so much of my high school boyfriend, who i went to 3 proms with, and who for some reason was the best shopping buddy ever... lol... of course after high school he came out! So then he was my best friend. His name was Joey, and we stayed besties until sadly he passed away in 2017 way too young. Accidental drug overdose, he mixed up his prescriptions. Anyway, watching you guys, particularly Sergio, (although I ❤ Cody too!) makes me feel a little like he's here again. Keep being awesome guys, love ya!!! Xo! ❤❤❤❤ Heather
I don’t like Faith. I never have. These two episodes are why I don’t bother trying. She stole Buffy’s body, got her arrested which led to her being taken by the council… then goes after Riley. While I don’t care for him, he thinks he’s sleeping with his girlfriend. Faith raped not only Riley, but Buffy as it was her body without consent. I don’t know how to feel because the cuteness between Will and Tara to the horror of the chaos Faith is bringing.
Yeah I agree, that for me crosses the line and I can’t ever like Faith after doing specially that (Spoilers!!) Specially since the show eventually ‘redeems’ her but she is never held accountable for SAing people (and I know this is a writing issue and a sing of the times, but it’s still too much for me to accept it)
I always found it funny that the Watchers Council knew Faith was lying helpless in a coma this whoooooole time. But wait till she wakes up and escapes to actually come and get her. I know if that happened, it defeats the purpose of these awesome episodes.. but still. Like.. they are the actual worst at what they do!

The knives in the window by “Gustafson” was another tribute to the set decorator who died from cancer in 2000..
SMG is an amazing actress, playing Buffy, acting like Faith, pretending to be Buffy but being Faith acting like Buffy. These are some great episodes.
And how these sincere acts of love and kindness spark a change in Faith, and we see her so naturally be pulled back into”hero-mode.”
The Mayor genuinely loved Faith as a daughter.
Two of my favorite season 4 episodes tonight.
“The sound cue sounds like the sound from Frozen 2”…well, they both have the same composer…so.
I wouldn't be surprised if Faith was just ducking behind that wall ☠️
Obsessed with these episodes omg
I was gagged from
Start to finish with these 2 parters ❤
I remeber having to wait a week to watch the next episode on bbc back in the day.
5 by 5 is also used in Aliens.
“Five by five” basically means working perfectly. It's from something called the SINPO (Signal, Interference, Noise, Propagation, and Overall) code. It originated with the military, but it's commonly used to evaluate voice communications of all kinds. “ Five by five” basically means working perfectly.
"Who are you ?" is one of my favorite episodes ever. SMG really shines in this.
Cody’s beef with the counsel is hilarious 😂😂
My theory regarding Faith being in good shape despite having been in a coma is that "Slayer healing" kept her muscles from undergoing atrophy.
Forrest: One good conjugal visit and your back in intensive care to stay.
Riley: Maidenless?
BtVS really likes the mid-season switcheroo of villains. In S2, Spike is scary in the first half, then he nearly dies and Angel loses his soul and _becomes_ the Big Bad. In S3, Mr. Trick comes in talking a big game, then Faith kills him and joins forces with the Mayor. Now, Dr. Walsh tried to kill Buffy, ended up stabbed by her own creation...
Walsh was originally supposed to be the Big Bad, but Lindsay Crouse wanted out.
@@migmitI wonder how that would’ve worked. Drive a wedge between Riley and Buddy and eventually have Bufft kill Riley?
@@unnderneathBuddy?!? Bufft?!? 🙂 Adjacent letter typos are a bane of my existence as well, I almost always have to go back and edit something...
Fyi this episode was left off the Buffy playlist. Two of my favorite episodes. Sarah and Eliza knocked it out of the park
last week it was Charmed, soul switch reaction.
this week it's Buffy, soul switch reaction.
Cody yelling "WHAT?!" Sounded just like that meme of the guy yelling "what?! What the fuck?!"LMAO
I believe 5 by 5 is used when testing radio frequencies. Means the quality is good loud and clear
Another great pair of episodes that suits your "twofer" format really well.
OMG BOTH EPISODES!
This is my favorite story in the buffyverse (but there are MANY close contenders in seasons 5, 6 and 7 and Angel 2 and 3)
The four notes in the music you picked up on sounds familiar because it's an extremely famous melody called the dies irae!
I love Tara!
my favourite episodes in season 4!!!
These episodes are so awesome! I adore Eliza Dushku. ❤
Both SMG and Eliza did a great job to switch their characters. 👌
Tara and Willow's relationship is very sweet and cute.
The way I shipped Buffy and Faith before I even knew what shipping was. Also Tara ❤
YOU'RE RIGHT. It sounds like frozen 2 as its actually the same composer. Hes known for that signature sound. Can't unhear it once you do
Tara and Willow are such good witch friends! And lets be real, the Spike/Faith scene was hot as hell.
This is how you do a body swap episode (looking at you Charmed).
Have been waiting for this all night 😍 from Milan Italy 🇮🇹
Buffy basically got the Captain Ginyu treatment these 2 episodes.
Who are you, best episode in the history of television ❤
So pleased to hear you two praising season 4, it gets a lot of flack from the fans but for some of us it's up with the best. These two eps are incredible.
So much great foreshadowing, but I know I can't say anything yet
while i love these episodes, i definitely hate how the show treats the riley and faith incident. he would never consent to sleeping with faith, and if someone impersonated riley to sleep with buffy it would be considered SA.
Omg Cody I wore this shirt to work today mine is white tho lol. My favorite goosebumps book is Beast from the East
21:05 Gets. Me. Every. Time. 🥹
The thing that got me about the body switch was that Faith finally got to see/feel the responsibility and weight that Buffy deals with every day… I think that’s what makes her have to save the people at church and the catalyst for her attacking herself…
She finally understands why Buffy does what she does and is the way she is.
All yall hinting at future arcs in these comments like these two don’t specifically ask yall not to do that. Just let them go in blind. 😂
8:29 What team? WILDCATS!!
Finally!!! The episodes this season I have been waiting for!!!
If you like Faith there was a series she was in called TRU CALLING it was awesome
Don’t forget about “Dollhouse”👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
@@RobOlivierbjr64 I didn't it's still one of my favorite series
@@Martin-u9e 😊😎
Cody's got a nice voice!
Tara & Willow ❤❤❤❤ almost as adorable as Pody & Pergio ❤❤❤❤
And almost because Twillow is fantasy and Corgio is real ❤
The reaction at the body swap... love it 😂😂😂
These episodes are so good, with so many great moments... almost unfair cutting scenes for the reactions... but I understand it lol.
SMG and Eliza nailed it the switch bodies thing... it was a great combination of acting, script and directing. Everything made sense and it gave the Faith character more layers instead of making her a simple villain.
Not every show using the freaky friday trope can execute it as good as this episode... just saying.
Great video, guys!! 😊
I❤This Show, These Episodes!🫣😭😮🫢😰🤣🥰🖥
Yay! Faith is back! ...and with a vengeance. And she sure stirred up things. Technically, both Buffy and Riley were molested.
Unfortunately, her friends have a tendency not to notice when Buffy isn’t Buffy. But Buffy can when it’s the other way around.
And also Riley. She withheld critical information, knowing that he would not have consented had he known.
Absolutely agree, she assaulted and victimized both of the.
Let me just say that nothing is said or done by accident in this show and plots are often set up in advance 😉😜😉😜😉😜
BTCH can’t wait for y’all’s reaction to thiiiiissssss I’m so excited
Yes yes yes so effing excited. Let's go
YESSSS was waiting for these ones 😁😁
I don’t like Faith. I never have. These two episodes are why I don’t bother trying. She stole Buffy’s body, got her arrested which led to her being taken by the council… then goes after Riley. While I don’t care for him, he thinks he’s sleeping with his girlfriend. Faith raped not only Riley, but Buffy as it was her body without consent. I don’t know how to feel because the cuteness between Will and Tara to the horror of the chaos Faith is bringing.
Yeah I agree, that for me crosses the line and I can’t ever like Faith after doing specially that
(Spoilers!!)
Specially since the show eventually ‘redeems’ her but she is never held accountable for SAing people (and I know this is a writing issue and a sing of the times, but it’s still too much for me to accept it)
TARA! She's one of my favorite characters of the whole series.
Yeah! The lesbians have arrived!
Buffy is ready to reach its peak years. 🎉
