Having our beloved characters, FINALLY going out with blk ppl, after all these years of NOT, reminds of the final seasons of Friends where Ross & Joey fight over both (Charlie (Aisha Tyler) & Kristen (Gabriel Union) after never dated blk women before on the show.😂 🤦♂
@@JoshuaMartian-go3tm Unfortunately, the writers made Buffy a bit ignorant when it came to Principal Wood but "hood" jokes were also an easy, go-to joke at the time to highlight differences.

The blouse that Anya is cleaning where she's not sure if it's blood or pizza is the same blouse Dawn gets pizza sauce on in "Conversations with Dead People" and says, "She'll just think it's blood."
25:54 “it’s like whole angel and angelus situation” EXACTLY. it’s frustrating how people can easily separate angel and angelus but not soulless spike and spike with a soul.
@@Starphoenixspike with a soul is not the same as soulless spike. there’s a monologue in season 7 we’re he goes in depth of horrible things he’s done to girls. he’s acknowledged as the 2nd worst vampire ever recorded, behind angel. when spike became a cast regular, he got the chip in his head and in the next season, he fell in love with buffy. soulless spike tried to change for buffy but deep down he was still the monster he always was, leading the bathroom scene. as the audience, we only got to see the real spike for his first couple episodes in season 2. not in the second half because of being in the wheelchair and turning into a lover boy because of drusilla. there’s 100+ years of horrible things spike did because he was surrounded by angelus, drusilla, and darla that we didn’t see.
@@user-fb6cw6cb2i Why are you talking to me as if I don't know anything about the series? My explanation was how an audience might view it from a knee jerk reaction.
Part of that is b/c the writers don't refer to season 7 Spike as William. Likely b/c it erases the arc that season 6 Spike went through b/c he's gone now. What we currently have is William, who we barely know.
Well he does understand, but it just doesn't change his mind about wanting vengeance. And it does make sense to me. The soul is just an add-on; the same brain, body, and demon that murdered his family are still present.
It's funny. Buffy was part of the era where popstars, celebs, and athletes would constantly pop up on TV shows. Ashanti, at the time, was making the rounds on the WB/UPN shows... Sabrina and Buffy being the most immediate to come to mind.
I’ve always wondered if it was an editing mistake that Wood was looking at Spike in the rear view mirror..Spike would have been invisible, so why did Wood say “he’s a vampire” in the basement?
Keep in mind if Xander hadn't gotten datenapped by a demon yet again the Scoobies wouldn't have gotten his message, and wouldn't have come to save him. Without Xander's demon magnetism Sunnydale would be overrun with ubervamps already as some other poor sap would have been the sacrifice.
I'm surprised no one picked up on Giles' comment about something eating Xander's head, which is a callback to the first season episode 'Teacher's Pet', where Xander fell in love with a teacher who ended up being a demon she-mantis, who eats her mates starting with their head.
Giles is throwing a lot of _you should be doing things the way I would_ attitude at Buffy after telling her she's the general of this group's army, and after walking away when saying, "I've taught you all you need to know." If he doesn't like Buffy's decisions, perhaps walking away while Buffy was in the middle of depression with only a soulless Spike, a too young to talk to sister, and the people who brought her back from heaven wasn't a good idea. Yet at the same time, I totally agree with him telling off the group for the casual-ness of dating in a time of war (different from apocalyses). Also, Giles has had 40+ years at being an adult. Technically, this is the Scoobies first year at it with the two to three prior years having them straddle childhood and adulthood. Although, in all fairness to Buffy, she was undercover trying to find out if the principal was evil or not, which she did learn. She officially recruited another soldier against The First. We'll see whether or not Wood is willing to let bygons be bygones with Spike or play into The First plan of trying to kill him and deplete the army's numbers, for why else would The First, as Wood's mom, be so willing to share that information. And technically it was good it wasn't an official date because he's her boss and that starts it off just as bad as all her other relationships, which is something The Nomies aren't recognizing. I was wondering if The Normies would recognize Ashanti or not. Not being a big name anymore made me curious. I was actually surprised they (Rana, at least) did know. Rana: "Xander is so lucky right now (about Ashanti)." Her character turns out to be a demon. Rana: "Oh my Shanti!" It depends on who The First is pretending to be on whether or not it has a sense of humor or not. Anya can admit jealousy about herself. In some ways she's better than most humans. Leaving phones behind doesn't happen as often in pop culture anymore because cell phones are more important in real life, as well. Marketa's laughing at Andrew's jokes now. Never thought that would happen.
Xander talking to the one and only Ashanti 😅 don't know how good he got it. Also, realizing each other.....reminiscent of Riley learning about Buffy anyone?
Christina milian also gust starred in a episode of smallville.. for some reason even tho milian was less popular in the states than ashanti I always saw them as very similar, similar looks, style, music etc both did movies n TV shows
It always bugged me that Wood appears to be looking at spike in the rear view mirror during the drive. thats the point he shouldve realized he was a vampire because spike wouldnt have a reflection.
I'm loving these Buffy reactions but guys please watch Agatha!! It's perfect for this Halloween season, and the last episode has been absolutely incredible. You'll definitely like it.
Let's not forget Giles is being a hypocrite here. He took lil miss Chinese potential on a fun shopping trip and ice cream. While not a date, it damn sure was a frivolous side quest.
It wasn't frivolous at all. The girl was in an upset state. It helped with her morale. Had we done more of that, maybe people wouldn't run away / commit s-word so much... 😅
First Date, I think this wasn't a particularly great episode, but entertaining nevertheless. As we have been led to believe we know there is more to Principal Wood, and of course he has an arsenal of knives and swords in a cupboard in the school as you would. When Buffy does go on the date with Wood, we see him in Jackie Chan/Jet Li mode as a martial arts master! We know as well that Xander seemed to get the date too easy with what Anya called the 'hardware whore', both Spike and Anya experiencing jealousy here. When Wood does come clean to Buffy he mentions his mother was a Slayer, and his mother's Watcher raised him. The part Ashanti played was written specially for her as she was a huge fan of the show, and as with Xander's previous experience with women we know that eventually she will be some sort of demon, as Willow said back in Something Blue in S4 to Xander 'you're a real demon magnet'. The First trying to work through Jonathan to Andrew is interesting, however as foolish and cowardly as he is, he seems to be doing the right thing this time. Funny when Willow gets the coded text from Xander trying to decode it. Spike appearing at the restaurant is funny playing gooseberry, but then we see Xander getting stabbed by Lissa/Ashanti. When they turn up to free Xander after the fight and Lissa is defeated, we see Buffy go to Spike, and we see Wood's face. Giles getting fed up of all the comedy is telling, and very telling scene when Buffy says to Spike she wants him to stay. Great final scene with Wood and his mother as The First Evil and telling him Spike killed her. A really good reveal here, that of course we always suspected leading to some great following episodes on that particular theme.
LOL I remember having this discussion in Band Candy. About how "The Ripper" just sounds like a badass nickname for someone to US over here in America. But for someone from the UK, taking on that nickname has an ENTIRELY different meaning. You're going for fear, rebel doing scary shit, and possibly psychotic. That would be like one of us going around saying "call me the Zodiac (killer)". Uhhh sure, Zodiac, I'll just be over here....away from you!! But I just love writing like that. Gives you SOOOOOOOOOOO much insight into a character without having to spend 1 second of screen time spelling it out. In his youth, Giles was a bad bad BAAAAD dude. That's what it told me. Sex, drugs, rock n roll, magic, crazy gothic rituals/sacrifices, crime, assault with or without a deadly weapon....that's what The Ripper tells me when seen from a UK POV. The Ripper coming from a US POV could mean MANY things. Maybe he's some clown who thinks he's funny cause he can rip off a fart? Or maybe that was his football nickname cause he was always "ripping off 40 yard TDs like nothing"? Or maybe he's a psychopath that likes to rip off an ear with a knife? But no, seen through the POV of the UK's culture "The Ripper" would be a pretty clear message one is trying to convey.
I think you should stop smoking before posting because Americans know Jack the Ripper very well, and when this show came out, most fans thought that Giles being called Ripper was a hint that he might be Jack.
I love Buffy in general, but after a strong start the middle and most of the end of season 7 is pretty weak. I remember the decent start, and really like the introduction and how the main story really gets going with Conversations With Dead People. But it mostly falls flat after. It's not bad, it's just weaker and I never cared that much about the potentials plot or how it plays out.
It was supposed to be Britney Spears but her schedule was too busy, so the got Ashanti. Which I feel is better. Ashanti killed the role even though she was evil.
most unrealistic thing that happens in buffyverse is someone as beautiful as ashanti finding anything remotely attractive as xander hell im still confused how he got Anya! he had to know it was a demon or bad guy lol

The subway fight was in 1977 not the Eighties ;) and the first slayer Spike killed was in China during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900.

He needs to change his name back to William! Or something much cooler than flippin' William.
My guess is that Angel acts far differently from Angelus whereas Ensouled Spike's personality is... Pretty much the same as Soulless Spike.

He had a break w/ Anya, but he chickened out.

Spidey saying try Christian Mingle when a demon tree was catfishing people on Angel lmao ❤
ripper was a derogatory term in the uk that referred to people who made their living with physical labor
Pretty sure Ripper was a nickname derived from Giles’s first name: Rupert.
That’s been my assumption. Rupert Ripper. Pretty close and for a magic using hate the world rebelling Punk teenager, it probably sounds pretty badass.
AYO THE COUCH WAS LIT IN THIS EPISODE!!! WOW!!! LMFAO
The zoom in with Rana and Spidey...I was dying!
Everytime Chris lost it laughing was amazing.
- Where did you get this jacket?
- New York.

I called it that Wood's mother was the subway slayer and in turn that Spike killed her as soon as Wood mentioned it at the restaurant.
Rana, of everyone, saying Wood will understand that Spike has a soul... um did Holtz understand that Angelus was now Angel?
Good comparison.
Holtz was a Jesus freak from the 19th century who put hunting vampires ahead of being a devoted father and husband. Wood is far more reasonable.
But he literally does as we see lol
Well he does understand, but it just doesn't change his mind about wanting vengeance. And it does make sense to me. The soul is just an add-on; the same brain, body, and demon that murdered his family are still present.
