The Knox/Holden actor, Jonathan M Woodward, is a Whedonverse regular, he also appeared in an episode of Firefly (and starred in Drones, a 2010 film directed by Amber Benson and Adam Busch). He is amazing in every appearance he makes, I seriously rate him as an actor.
In Buffy’s case it’s an interesting way to compress a full generation into a handful of years. Buffy becomes a single mother, just like her mother, struggling to understand her teenage daughter.
I wonder if there weren't a network switch if Buffy, Angel, Connor, and Dawn could've met during S3 or S4. It still doesn't sit right with me that the Buffy gang were never given a chance to acknowledge any of the Cordy stuff from S4. Granted, by the time Jasmine was around, Buffy was in full crisis mode.
It's nice that reactors got to be surprised by Spike's return. Before the Buffy finale, it was already announced that he was going to be joining the cast of Angel. So, his "heroic sacrifice" didn't have nearly the impact it could've had.
It was never announced before the finale as James Marsters explained himself multiple times. He was contacted after the Buffy finale had aired and he was quite surprised because he thought that was it. If he was asked to come back after the Buffy finale had aired, it's impossible that any announcement was made before and in fact it wasn't. You're remembering incorrectly.
@@FuzzyDlop The network (WB)/media definitely spoiled his return _in some form_ before the Buffy finale aired. And if people weren't spoiled by that early promo... they were definitely spoiled by the credits, lol.
thankfully, I never saw the Angel series commercial ( if there was one before Buffy's finale), so me and my family weren't spoiled. we balled our eyes out at the series finale lol. we didn't really watch Angel after it's 1st season.I don't remember why...but because of this my family and I missed out on a lot, especially Spike coming back from the dead. we didn't find out he did until years later.
Your smile when Spike emerges from the amulet is so full of joy and excitement. It’s the same as a child’s happiness opening a wanted Christmas present. Wonderful reaction review to a solid season opener.
I popped over here directly from watching your Buffy finale reaction, since I had to see your reaction to Spike's return after seeing how deeply his seeming demise cut you.
Well you made it to Angel S5 the best Season in the Buffyverse IMHO. From the very start of this episode we can see the improvement in production values and much better fight choreography etc. The one take scene in the Wolfram & Hart HQ involving all the main characters is amazing in itself. This one was written and directed by Whedon himself. It is really very much a two-parter along with E2 Just Rewards. The transition to the new base at Wolfram & Hart offices in L.A. is somewhat overwhelming for the gang, but they soon meld into corporate life. The first surprise of Harmony being reintroduced as Angel's assistant gives us BTVS continuation, as we know she is comedy gold throughout, and is one of the most underrated characters in The Buffyverse. Gunn gets the total makeover having been used to download the complete Law into his brain, giving us absolute foreshadowing here by Joss Whedon for the premise of Dollhouse, and of course we have Amy Acker in Lab coat, more foreshadowing for Dollhouse for her part as Dr Claire Saunders. Great scene when Gunn enters the courtroom in a suit so sharp it cuts, and precedes to act as if he just came out of L.A. Law and Boston Legal, and a little bit of Ally McBeal thrown in as well. Great scene also with Angel in the school taking out the complete Black Ops Covert Swat Team. The 'mercy' scene is superb. The final twist of course is back at H.Q. when Angel opens the package and the amulet drops to the floor, Spike is re-born again, giving us the brilliance of his character to cement S5 a great Season.
@@lilywong9672 what?? i love the interaction between Angel and Spike! They have so much history together as vamps and we get to see some of it. It helps give more dimension to each of them.
Buffy continued in comic book form with Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 from Dark Horse Comics. Those comics are considered canon.
Can I make a suggestion? If you haven't seen it already Buffy the vampire Slayer has an unpaired pilot episode. It was Josh's first attempt at the Buffy tv series but was turned down so Josh and his team made some changes and the show we love today was born. Anyway it's something you should check out
Love reactons in this episode to Spike showing up. As a first time viewer I didn't get that as it was heavily advertised Spike would be on AtS now that BtVS was over. AtS S5 is only the last piece of The Buffyverse if you choose not to read the canon comics or listen to the audio drama. That would be fantastically rare for reaction viewers.
somehow my family and I avoided spoilers, but we didn't watch Angel as it aired ( besides the 1st season ).we only watched Buffy and Spike's sacrifice hit us hard ( along with Anya ). we didn't even learn that Spike came back until years later.
It is a fairly well known thing in popular culture. Most reactors also don't question what a car is because they already know. To be unfamiliar with the Eve-apple connection you pretty much have to read the bible in Hebrew or a version that was translated before the fruit was changed into an apple and then not pay attention to any contemporary Christian mythology. But even then you still have the Eve-fruit connection so the apple still works.
Great Season to finish with! S3 is def Peak with David Greenwalt being the backbone of the first 3 seasons, after a mishap of a season 4 with a new showrunner and what Whedon did to Cordelia as well as treated Charisma, this is a return to form and to me only 2nd to Season 2 in terms of GREATNESS.
@@jamalbryant8099 Ben didn't do much to the end of S4. The rest is TRASH. Completely ruining Cordeilas character. Literally having to bring Jasmine in to patch up rest of the season before soft rebooting the Finale.
Someone asked about this about a Buffy episode once. Apparently there is some contractual/legalese reason that the show can't just mess about with the credits as they see fit. Dunno any more than that, was just somet I read in passing :)
@@usgreth The appearance of an actor in the opening credits is decided contractually, however they can choose to forgo this in order to not spoil a reveal. For example the show 'Grimm' did this in an episode where a major character returns at the end of the episode (much like this) but the actress's name was only displayed right at the end before the full end credits came up, so as not to spoil the surprise.
I don't think I've ever heard of a motion comic....there WAS going to be an animated series but it ended up not happening ( or set aside ). there is going to be that spin off radio series/podcast-esc episodes led by James Marsters and includes the original actors of Giles, Drusilla, Spike (of course), Tara, and Anya. its about a different slayer, so its not trying to be another Buffy...but I think its also supposed to be an alternate reality.

Yes, the intro credits James Marsters as a regular. Surprise!
