Just put this on my manual b6 Passat today. Feels very refined compared to oem. The quality of the parts are even more apparent in person once you’re installing them. No regrets!
Now have this installed on my 2019 Alltrack after the 90 day wait for manufacture. Night and day difference. While it feels normal after two months and 3,000 miles initially it felt VERY SHORT. it's now very notchy. I'm still getting comfortable with quickly shifting given the gates feel smaller but the travel is much less. Highly recommend it!
I know this is old, but one...I appreciate all the awesome detailed instructions & two...love the added in humor, that's not something you get in an instructional video, nice touch. By the way, it worked, because I will be ordering one from you, for my 13 MK6 R. Thanks again 😊
The acting in this video deserves an award. You had me at rowing but I don't currently own a VW so I'm sad that I have no reason to buy this. I need to buy another VW.
Just installed mine, and the super pin. Overall, it feels way better and much more firm. I wasnt expecting it to feel so mechanical shifting now, but i think ill be putting on a weighted shift knob to damped the stick feel.
@@Deutscheautoparts i look forward to that. That super pin is awesome, i recommend it highly to a few friends, but they are in the UK and there is no shipping option. Any idea if that will be changing? Thanks
Installed this yesterday on my new to me Golf 7.5R. I watched this and the @HumbleMechanic install video multiple times so I didn’t miss any steps. I would never attempt this without their detailed videos, but it was super easy and I love the end result. Pairs nicely with a weighted shift knob.
Looks like a well-engineered product. The fore-aft throws are long, true, but I find the left-right spacing to actually be annoyingly tight on my 02Q ('11 JSW TDI). With this kit, is it possible to shorten only the fore-aft throw, and not the left-right spacing? Additionally, would it be possible to engineer a retrofit rod linkage to replace the cables? Or is there just not enough room/too convoluted a path?
I just attempted this install. After locking the shifter in neutral as shown in this video I struggled to wiggle the oem shifter out. At one point the shifter moved up way too much(while in the locked position) and now I can’t lock it back into place. Did I just break the locking mechanism??!
Installed this about 6 months back and recently my shifting has become incredibly stiff. After some investigation, turns out one of the spherical bearings began rusting and seizing up. Kind of disappointed given this wasn't particularly cheap. Going to be replacing the bearings with the 63215K53 from McMaster-Carr, which should be a corrosion resistant 303/440 SS direct replacement for the ones the kit comes with, (which are presumably alloy steel?)
Did this today on a 2018 golf r. Everything went smooth but not sure if is tight too much because now the shift feels heavy and I hear metal noises especially on 2nd gear, perhaps it has to break in?
Can you make a a few minute video where we can legit see the reduce in throw, I want to buy it, but I just had a mk7 tdi in the shop and guy had a full ecs tunning short throw, and that thing was horrible, u didn't even need to push down the reverse, and first was in place of 3rd, good look finding second
He either installed it wrong of had the wrong short shift kit for his car. I have a diesel geek short throw shifter on my MK7 with no issues, everything is in the proper location and reverse works as it properly should.
The shifter will feel funny if you do it incorrectly. I recommend a slow test drive tho, as I forgot to lock the trans when changing bushings and had no reverse, first gear instead of reverse and third gear instead of first. You will feel something is off tho. The feeling I got from wiggling in neutral felt like old bones lol...
I have a question here, I broke the locking pin while installing this short shifter, now i have part of the pin inside my transmission. How bad is this? Thank you for your help.
Hey ShopDap i have a question. Im looking into a short shifter for my 6 speed. I had the diesel geek in my 5 speed and just thought it was way too tight side to side. ( mk4 car ) i had to very very deliberately go into 5th and it constantly wanted to kick me into 3rd from fourth. Im really worried that this will be the same song and dance as it looks similar. Curious if you have gotten any feedback
I am curious how this Holy Shift short shifter assembly performs compared to the DieselGeek Sigma 6 short shifter assembly? DieselGeek Sigma 6 has been well known to be one of the best, if not the best, short shifter assembly for VW’s, and it looks like ShopDAP has almost copied them with this Holy Shift design, and yet, is also selling it for a higher cost than the DieselGeek Sigma 6. So I ask, how is this better? If I’m going to spend more on this, I need to know why? I wouldn’t be asking if I currently wasn’t looking for a new short shifter upgrade. I’m currently running a Forge short shift bracket and ECS billet bushing setup. TBH, this setup is pretty good. Great feel. The only thing is that it doesn’t improve the side to side, so now I’m looking to upgrade just for that 10-20% better feel over what I’m already running.
I just looked at the Sigma 6 on the DieselGeek site to compare. I noticed that DG's kit only includes one cable end (front to back). SD replaces both ends. That additional component would speak to the $20 cost difference IMO. And that end will give you more definitive side to side movements, having replaced the spongy rubber bushing. So there is some difference in the two products. Maybe not a huge diff, but some. Cheers.
Anyone know the name of that shaft (9:22) and if there is a vid on installing it? I accidentally removed it and I dont remember if the car was in neutral and I just saw that you can lock the shift knob.
Hey there. I accidentally broke the locking pin to the shifter tower while trying to install this kit. 2 questions.... Is it tough to replace that locking pin? Can I install this shift kit without having to lock the shift tower for adjustments? Thanks in advance
I can get the first piece off clip removed and secondary clip removed so I can lift but it only goes up so much and is stuck used penetrating oil and even tried high compressed air to push through the gaps but nothing gave it headway and tips?
I just bought and tried to install the Holy Shift into my 2009 GTI. Install was a pain in the butt. After I did the initial adjustments to the shifter by locking the tower and dropping the pin into the shifter and tightening up the 14 4mm Allen’s, I lost second gear. I pinned everything again and loosened everything again like Charles suggested in his video. I only tightened two of the 4mm bolts on each arm and tried it all again. Still no second gear. It appears that it is hitting something that is preventing it from going into gear. All of the other gears work fine, finding reverse is a bit different. Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!!
I broke my transmission locking pin while installing the holy shift! Was my mistake while pulling the old one out. I guess I used too much pressure. I was still able to install the new shifter successfully. Now I am wondering how hard it is to replace that pin. I found it for $25 but no idea how to remove it, also my concern is…. Could the broken piece be a danger for the gears inside my transmission?
Have you found an answer to this? This exact thing just happened to me. I stopped and I have a couple of emails out to dap and called them but they will only respond to email.
@@paulmartinez1163 i did not get an answer but I bought the pin, I have not installed it yet but it’s a plastic pin and seems it’s no risk for the transmission, I still need to figure out how to install it, seems it goes in with just some pressure so it must come out the same way.
I got distracted and was doing some other stuff and lost track of what step i was on and forgot to loosen the nut on the shift weight and snapped my lockin pin.. i dont know what to do now...

Was removing the selector lever in the engine bay, with the locking pin pushed in and up - locking the transmission as described. Then the selector popped up. The transmission locking lever does not prevent vertical movement of the shaft now. Did I make a $400 mistake?
@@turboshottho The spline/gear selector won’t come down to its resting positioning. This is reflected on the inside with shift knob slop. When in neutral and move the shifter to the left, it returns to the middle. When moving shift knob to the right it remains there. This happened because I locked the transmission then removed the oem gear selector and then it budged. I should not have locked the transmission until the oem selector was off and to anyone reading I would not do so. The locking pin does not lock the transmission into place anymore. Now I have to call dealerships for a $400 part. Car is still functional/have all gears - but it’s not what it once was.
