Thank you for all the work and expense involved in this video! This now my 2¢ worth. 1)I like bold colors. If I work hard to achieve it on my design, I want it to show as is, not faded. 2) I bought several sizes and styles tee shirts from Red bubble for myself and family. In their product description, also consumer reviews, they do mention certain styles run large or small. 3) All were very soft. But for, say, a construction worker's work shirt a thicker, heavier fabric might be more desirable. 4) All my orders were on black or dark colors and were good except... The white stripes in American flag design could have been better as compared to a similar shirt I bought from Old Navy a few years ago, (it might not have been a POD). 5)Thanks again for a great video.

Great video! Thanks for putting the time and effort into making this one. I'm sure it took much patience and fortitude. My only concern and question is this:
From what I understand, (please correct me if wrong), is that MOST of these of POD companies, (if not all?) are working with 3rd party printing houses (generally unknown to the masses), AND depending on a variety of ever changing factors (just to make it even more confusing for buyers), trying to seek consistency with color, printing quality, size of shirt, even the quality texture of shirt (scratchy vs smooth), will all tend to vary depending what TYPE of product you order, what SIZE you order, WHEN you order it (is it still in stock?, if not they might send you the next best thing concerning quality..that happened to me with Teespring), and from WHERE you order it from (Europe, States, etc.).
Your video is appreciated though, because whatever and whenever the product was ordered, it still reflects the company overall. But, I just think in the end it might be a tad misleading to assume that these results are completely accurate as far as representing what might be quarterly or even year round results ( I wish they were!). If you did these same tests a month later, I wouldn't be surprised if it yielded completely different results. I think the way operations are running by these companies makes consistency almost impossible.
Spring must have switched printing houses or something because I received my printed shirts (Via Teespring, just before Spring) because there were more than a few errors on printing and quality and sizes and everything. AND I think, one could probably do just an entire video on accuracy of design placement alone. I think for most companies they are also very inaccurate (some worse than others of course). I think ultimately, the way to determine in detail where the best printing and quality t-shirts are coming from is to find out what the actual printing houses are. But at that step, you might as well just start your own company.
    Thanks again for the vid!

    • @shimmymorris1
      @shimmymorris1  3 года назад +1

Ye this was more to get a better understanding of the comapanies as a whole. if a shirt was great quality you could imagine they care about the quality in their other products too. There are of course so many variables to consider and so many changing factors.
From my experience of buying shirts in the past from some of these companies, they've been quite consistent

Thank you this was very good information. I can say that i have ordered a merch by Amazon shirt and it didn't have the bleed issue. It was very soft print and shirt and i like the fit although maybe ran a tad small. The print has held up well to multuple washes without fade which is a plus as well. I think any time we deal with mass production, we will have slight variences on size. They are allowed to be off measurements in manufacturing as long as it is within pre determined specks. Same with the print. Still great info . Thank you.

Not all of the comfort variations can be attributed to the print company. Some of the blank shirt brands are very inconsistent in sizing - for Gildan softstyle, for instance, I have size larges that are far too tight and some that fit perfectly. Of course, the quality of the print absolutely effects comfort, and I do think you can rate companies based on whether they're using a nicer t-shirt at their base price.

Gildan is 2nd worst company for clothing in my opinion for t-shirts after Fruit of Loom. As when I was ordering blank t-shirts from wholesalers their sizing doesn't match, seams were off, neckline weird (always was going for softstyle). Now using only BC and their are really good however more pricy. Also I did order sample print from Prodigi, was expecting funky vinegar smell, but I couldn't smell anything, also print quality was medium, haven't washed it yet-scared that all print will wash away lol.

thanks for this. I buy the Gildan 64000 myself and its a really nice comfortable shirt whereas the odd time I have had a gildan 5000 you can tell the difference immediately. as it is more coarse and heavier. Not surprised that they felt bigger and itchy tbh. I have had some issues on a shirt recently where the pink I used on it was printed as more of a purple and I found it this was due to this print partner at Printify was using a CMYK printer and therefore matched my colour which was out of its range with the purple. I had had to redo the design with a websafe colour pink and it looks pretty similar and when printed on a mug it came back pink so that was good. That sort of made me think of your shirt where the initial 4 rows were basically the same and it might be that that provider is not able to print correctly outside of the CMYK range.

Keep in mind that when you're comparing size, comfort and quality of the shirts among the POD companies that they don't actually make the tshirts and any seller using Printful and Printfiy (I don't know about the other companies) would be able to select specific shirt brands and styles (Bella + Canvas, Gildan, Next Level, etc.). If you're using Printify like I am, they actually farm out the printing to a bunch of different print houses or print providers as they call them, so they printing quality can vary depending on which print provider you choose. I think Printful does their own printing so maybe their printing quality is more consistent. One thing I want to say about Amazon shirts (Amazon Merch is the name for their POD business) is that they use Port and Company tshirts, which isn't the best quality but it's decent. One last thing I want to bring up is that as a current POD tshirt seller who used to sell shirts that were screen printed, I always want the artwork on the tees to have a "soft feel" touch, which is a screen printing jargon that means using as little ink as possible so you don't feel the ink at all. That has been a challenge for me using these POD companies and I hope the technology improves soon so all DTG shirts can have that "soft feel" touch on them., at least that's my personal preference as I don't care for that heavy plasticy feel on the printed artwork. Thanks for your insightful video!

Just a little info on the “why” the prints look the way they do. I run a small business custom printing and embroidery shop. From my experience, the smell comes from pretreat used. The shirt where the white bled is the result of too much white layer laying first. It looks like they did 2 passes on the white. Basically, the following determine how well a printed design looks: the brand of shirt, type of printer, the brand of pretreat, how well the shirt was pretreated, fibers laid down and cured, and the color settings. The sizing is contingent upon where the company had the shirt made. For example, Nicaragua tends to make softer Gildan shirts but the fit varies; the US is probably closest to the truest fit, but not always the softest, and so on. Check the the labels to see where they were made. As you know, the sizes are unisex hence the extended bottom and inch or so on the sides.

A nice comparison. :) I recently ordered shirts from Teepublic in 3 colors: black, cream and white. The black and cream had excellent prints (except one had less contrast in reds than expected), but the white ones were a little disappointing. One felt faded and had bleeding or a color offset, and the other one had bleeding too. Would be interesting to know how white products would fare from other places, wonder if it's just more difficult to print on white.

This is a great resource as I try to figure out which print on demand company to use and do not have the money to conduct such an experiment. I do have a question though: Are the shirts the really soft Modal stuff or are they the traditional more rigid cotton t-shirt fabric? From the description it sounds like they might be Modal. I am just figuring things out and will have very niche designs and really do not want to alienate potential customers because I have no plans to move many items.

Teepublic has a couple large issues.
    1. Designs flake off within 2-3 washes at most on their classic Tees.
    2. Their premium tees only allow you to print on front, even though their classic tees allow prints on *front and* back.
    3. Their classic tees don't hold a shape for long. The collar stretches within the same 2-3 washes, making the shirt look like you have owned it for more than 10 years. I like my shirts to keep a round collar shape so they look fresh when I wear them
