If you highball both of those you can come to some crazy conclusions. It also depends on where you rank the admirals relative to the emperors.

They are okay with the ''strongest'' titles for other characters but when it comes to Mihawk they have an excuse about everything. the navy is just the face of the WG and the thing with fuji and akainu showed us that, and not sending anything mihawks way when they were ending the warlord system tells the rest of the one piece world that they are afraid of him. they also know that if they would actully try to take mihawk down they would lose some of their main forces which would make them be a target for pirates like the yonko's, shiki, the revos and whatever else they need to look out for. the 10 battleships or how many it was is to make a statement to the world not really to mihawk they also might have send out those new vegapunks creations. there is a lot of stuff to consinder when it comes to one piece(no pun intended) and that is something we all love when it comes to this show so dont take everything at face value enjoy the ride peace

The way i see mihawk and shanks is like two boxers mihawk held the title and is a reigning champion while shanks was a challenger who rose to fame and was on his level until he lost an arm and motive to fight.

Mihawk is equal to a yonko in power if not ahead of them.he has to be that strong , he has world tittle on his name . The only reason he is not a yonko is because he is not a pirate, doesn't have a crew and no territory under his rule. Yonko is not a powerlvl, it is just that as a pirate how much territory you have that is it. Mihawk doesn't care about territory ruling he is alone warrior and loves to be by himself.

@@TM-NTM Lol not slander, The Yonkos are all monsters, we saw Kaido one shot Luffy. I just think Mihawk is up there with the Yonkos in Power Level, his title has to mean something. I kind of get why people look down on Mihawk specially after Marineford. I would have expected him to to be one shotting everyone but he didn't and was even held up by Vista for a bit too. Then Shanks came in and stopped everything like a total badass. We didn't really see Mihawk do any "Yonko" worthy feats, but we didn't see him break a sweat either. I don't think the gap between Mihawk and Shanks is big but there is a reason he is regarded as the best Swordsman. I wouldn't mind having a flashback to their duel or maybe an OVA

In the entire series luffy fought every one he thoght hes an enemy without fear before the timeskip he fought aokiji kizaro koma moria he tried to fight akainu but the only one he feared was mihawk cuz when he was gonna punch him he said "if i threw that puncj he was gonna cut my hands" refering to mihawk so luffy feared mihawk and dident fear any yonko or admiral

Hmmm the reaction when Luffy got when he stopped himself from attacking mihawk was very big, but thats not the only time he has feared an enemy he also feared katakuri before figuring out the true nature of his ability but theres no doubt that alot of people that luffy fough he wasnt scared, hell you could say that he hasnt feared anyone throughout the entire series after meeting them once so i respect what you said.

I personally think they are of the same level.MIhawk got the only World Renounce Title that a lot of the community collectively disrespect and question. Nobody else titles get the same kick back he does. So you telling me Oda gave all these guys title and they live up to the level of power yet he makes MIhawk not. Also we know Oda is big swordsman fan. Then you have to pay attention to who the Characters are, MIhawk isn’t going to hold a title that’s have no meaning and Zoro isn’t going to chase a title that is meaningless. I am also pretty sure when you get to certain level you can gauge how powerful someone is. Rayleigh said so,even now MIhawk and Shanks have a good understanding of each other power. I mean you don’t fight someone using a sword multiples times in big battles and not be considered a swordsman. I think Further explanation on king Haki could be a difference maker. When I think about them they are normal size looking men,these guys are not known for having devil fruits,so they have to be lethal in their craft and all around state. Haki game,speed,physical power etc and swordsmanship to compensate for the lack of devil fruit etc.

Hey guys, fun fact : in the SBS Volume 73 (Dressrosa arc), someone asks Oda this : "Hey, Oda! In all of these fight scenes, why doesn't anybody go for the men's groins? Doesn't that seem like the quickest path to victory?" .
Before revealing Oda's answer, I would like to point out that at this point of the story, he had already introduced the Yonko, had already hyped Kaido, "the King of Beasts", and told us that he was crazy strong, and had already introduced Whitebeard as the strongest man in the world. Here's Oda's answer : "True, that is a vital area. Just imagine legends among men--Whitebeard, Shanks, Mihawk--staring each other down, bearing their weighty ideals...and trying to whack each other in the balls! IS THAT THE KIND OF MANGA YOU WANT TO READ?!".
Isn't it interesting ? Oda could have made this joke while talking about the four emperors : after all, if they are the strongest pirates/characters of One Piece, why not talking about them when you want to turn the most epic fight ever into a scene where all fighters want to whack each other in the nuts ? Oda didn't decide to talk about Kaido and Big Mom, but chose to tell us about an epic battle between Whitebeard, Shanks and Mihawk instead, and he even said that they are "legends among men" ! It's pretty clear that Oda thinks they are in the same tier of strength (if they weren't, Mihawk would have nothing to do in this battle).
In a nutshell, here's my point of view : Kaido has never been the strongest character in One Piece, even after Whitebeard's death : Oda has never considered him "the strongest creature" officially because he has always said that it's a rumor, while he has always told us that Whitebeard and Mihawk deserved their titles. Kaido is a transition to the end of One Piece : he's one of the strongest characters in One Piece, but the top tiers will reveal themselves later (Shanks, Mihawk, who's inactive, Dragon etc...). You're not ready guys, you're not ready for Mihawk and Shanks, who are definitely stronger than Kaido individually (you might think I'm overreacting to this statement, but it's clear that Oda thinks Mihawk and Shanks can compete with Whitebeard). Mihawk is stronger than Kaido and Big Mom !
Also, there's something I would like to shed light on : when Shanks talked to Whitebard aboard his ship, Whitebeard mentioned a fight between him and Mihawk which was fresh in his memory, and placed this fight in the same league as legends like Roger or Garp : what do you think that means ? What does Oda want to tell us when he makes the strongest character in One Piece say that ? He wants to tell us that this fight was as impressive as the one between Roger and Whitebeard etc. He's clearly hyping Mihawk's and Shank's back story. We're not ready guys, we're not ready !

Because we didn't saw him in a real fight. We can't even say that he mainly uses a sword. I really don't care which one is stronger because i love them both but i rather wait to get as much information as possible before i jump to conclusions. Shanks means leg btw , just saying he only uses his sword coz he never gone allout.For me shanks only trained with mihawk to improve his skills and later he left to find his crew. hE doen't consider mihawk as rival anymore nor is interested in title .

12:15 Whitebeard i renowned for being the strongest man alive, not the "strongest swordsman", Mihawk already had that title at that point in time. Also Kaidou was know at that time to be the strongest creature alive. The titles in One piece always kinda overstated. What is stronger the strongest man vs. the strongest creature? Combine that with the fact, that Mihawk refused to fight Shanks after he lost his arm and how are you supposed compare strength then, if you have no combat example you can compare it to. The story until now did not reveal how the fights between Shanks and Mihawk went, but it is implied that they were most likely equals and now they aren't even competing with one another and I don't think that Shanks is interested in the title. I don't know, I still think they way the story is set up Shanks still seems to be stronger than Mihawk in my eyes, even with Mihawk having his title. Mihawk also stated to Luffy that becoming Pirate King is something above being the strongest swordsman and you can interpret that anyway you want and in many non-combat related ways, but it could also imply that there are combat styles or power related abilities that trump just swordsmanship.
I would add that, though shanks is definitely a swordsman his strong point as always been shown to be his conqueror haki. Which is an ability that we know so few about and that seem to be the only capacity in the one piece world that have nothing to do with swordmanship whatsoever. I'm not saying that shanks is stronger. Just that they don't fight at all in the same way which means that the power level between them is probably not as clear cut as we woukd like.
Name one piece of EVIDENCE that points to Shanks being strongest no headcanon
Mihawk>Shanks. Mihawk has the title Worlds strongest Swordsmen. Not once Shanks has been hinted at to have been the best or have defeated Mihawk at all. Mihawk also rolled up on Shanks and his boys basically telling Shanks he ain’t worthy of fighting him because he’s handicapped. Plus Mihawk was already famous is the Roger era while Shanks was still a lackey on Rogers crew. Come at me.

I’m a year late but I was thinking! We guess that Mihawk no longer wants to fight Shanks because he is a “handicap who cannot fight at his best.” However, with Zoro being blinded in one eye, wouldn’t the same logic apply? One could argue how important one eye over one arm is to a swordsman, but if Mihawk is measuring his rivals as “Are they the best version of themselves or if I win will it be to a handicap and therefore a wasteful victory?” then couldn’t we say that Mihawk should’ve lost interest in Zoro as soon as he lost his eye?
Otherwise, really great video! I’m also of the opinion that Mihawk is more likely than not stronger than Shanks and this was a really helpful explanation to solidify this belief. Thanks again!

My point is that there’s levels that a character shows very quick in their expressions. For example Zoro and Pica , pica thought he could handle Zoro , but he was more of a nuisance that kept escaping from being finished off quickly.
There’s no way vista could challenge the man who sparred with Shanks many times. If I can compare swordsman , I would compare him to Zoro, but I see Zoro beating him. However, I don’t see him actually challenge Mihawk for his title right now.

Not only did he fought with shanks many times, but Whitebeard also praised their legendary duels. Whitebeard was the strongest Yonko, and the man closest to being Pirate King. Besides those two, or any other duels, Whitebeard had never praised anyone of the current era. Let’s look at Zoro for example, he is a man who is well into being or surpassing first commander level and I still have my doubts of him surpassing mihawk as his master. Mihawk isn’t a first commander level , he has to be Yonko tier. There’s many who agree that Zoro could had been stronger then Luffy post time skip, because Wano will finally bring Zoro’s true challenge in king or someone of high tier. If someone like Zoro fights King and beats him , that would prove that Zoro didn’t need to fight commander level opponents to get stronger like Luffy had to. That only adds to the discipleship from his master, Mihawk.
Mihawk was famous even in Rogers era, and there’s many reasons why he was the only warlord who didn’t hide or was aided by an alliance or army. Every warlord had a crew, an army, or an alliance with the marines or with Yonko’s. Mihawk is the only one who wanders the seas like if it’s his backyard.

I don’t know how much more blatenly obvious Oda can make it. They are pretty much equals. Mihawk probably has the slight edge in swordplay while Shanks probably has better haki, but even with those strengths they are still just about equal. the only headcanon needed to think shanks is stronger than mihawk is that just having a sword doesnt make you a swordsman. i can respect people who believe mihawk is stronger and that think shanks is a swordsman but id just disagree until shanks straight up says mihawk is superior or something equivalent to that. i think if you switched shank's sword for a club he wouldnt be much weaker but if the same is done for mihawk he'd potentially drop multiple tiers due to all his stat points being in swordsmanship. my personal power scaling is very different to yours but i sub because i like to hear opposing opinions but saying its absurd to think that the story has implied shanks potentially could be > mihawk is itself absurd to me. titles dont mean everything and they havent fought in a long time. mihawk also has never challenged big mom either so i do think there is a differentiation he makes when challenging top tiers with swords. also being a yonko does require top tier power not just influence. if it were just influence, orochi could be considered an emperor as he has just as much territory and influence as kaido as far as we know but he is weaker than kaido making kaido the yonko.
Yes, that is reflects my opinion really well also. When Mihawk attacked Whitebeard at Marineford, he also said, that he wants to gage the gap in power between him and the worlds Strongest Man. Whitebeard also used his Murakumogiri in battle, which is also one of the Supreme Great Swords. So if just Combat Power and Strength alone while mainly using a sword would make you the worlds greatest Swordsman, you would have to put Mihawk above Whitebeard in Power at that point in time and then Whitebeards title would not make sense at all anymore. So titles either way are somewhat inaccurate or the title of greatest swordsman is used for the technical aspect of swordsmanship.

The reasons are simple,
Mihawk was said to have trained vigorously for many years going on challenging more and more powerful foes.
He was said to have been famous even before the Great Age of piracy and now as many of we know that In Ace Novel (Fan translation) it was said Shanks most fame came out of dueling with mihawk.
Now coming to the Duels, it has never been said or implied that mihawk Or shanks had a upper hand on the other one, it was just said that their duels were legendary which shook the entire Grand line and even Whitebeard recognized it.
It was never said that Mihawk was the superior one in the duel or same with shanks. I would even go to say that they were portrayed as equals in that scenario.
And one last thing, Before shanks lost his arm, it was still said that mihawk was dueling with him, the way I look at it is, they didn’t have a conclusive, clear cut winner in any scenario. And mihawk stopped challenging anyone after shanks lost his arm, so the only one who was on same level or equal to him was shanks.
And now, the data book saying mihawk is waiting for someone who is stronger than shanks,
The way I bend it is that mihawk is trying to go more further, surpassing his limits like someone having an urge to grow more and more.
So, I personally view them as equals.
And about the title IMO, mihawk got it because in all those years, the only thing mihawk did was challenge more and more powerful swordsman and became the most skilled at the way of blade, maybe in terms of power shanks and mihawk were equal, but mihawk edged shanks in terms of swordsmanship and obtained the black blade. Also Mihawk was famous before shanks dueled with him, so in terms of swordsmanship he was the superior one.
So, he got the title for the “Strongest swordsman” whose power was equal to a Yonko (shanks), but skill as a swordsman was unmatched.

For instance, roger vs Whitebeard, they were portrayed to be equal in their clash and were to shown to have equal powers which resulted in 3 days battle -draw even though when Whitebeard had the strongest paramecia and he was in his prime, but because of equal power levels they were even and had a draw.
Second, roger vs Oden, IMO, oden was a better swordsman than roger, but he got sent flying because he was inferior in terms of power.

I think people give titles too much credit. Their title should be taken into consideration but it shouldn’t be the end all be all argument. It shouldn’t be hard to realize that a declining WB was no longer the strongest man in the world. One Piece’s world is like our world - forever changing.
I disagree quite a bit to be honest. I feel like they're one of the only things in One Piece that are stamped. There is no doubt in my mind that Whitebeard 2 years ago was the strongest man alive. He was stabbed through the cehst before he even got to showcase his strength properly so it's hard to properly scale him but this man was very impressive in Marineford. Extremely impressive.
Aofiji Yeah his feats were by far the most impressive we’ve seen. I’m not saying he wasn’t impressive, I’m saying I just don’t see an aging Whitebeard defeating a healthy Yonko in a 1v1. Stamina was his only downfall, and in a world where they can fight for 10 days, that’s crucial.

I don't know whether shanks is weaker but to have the highest average bounty for every members in a crew and make white beard and sengoku respect you and allowed meeting gorosei. That's a talent that probably no other pirate possess. Mihawk may be yanko level in strength but he cannot defeat one because yonko represent more than a single person.
