This is the most concise and practical observation on the current ammo situation I've come across. It's nice when information being shared is actually useful for practically everyone. Personally I believe, we are smack in the middle of a "cheap" ammo shortage and the actual ammo storage is yet to be seen.

@ToolsandTargets There are two wars wars of concern occurring in Europe and in the Middle East. Tossed into the mix,are inflationary policies,e.g., cranking out greenbacks as if Monopoly Money. So what this boils down to, is escalating prices and moderate to severe shortages for the next couple of years.
So Tools, you are on the mark. Sadly, you are also on the mark, predicting only modest price decreases from record high price, testifying to the Industry greed😢.
Thanks,Tools for the hard labor you put into informative segments, such as Jelly Time.

Similar to all, been working on gathering last two years expecting prices to go up ‘24 (I was expecting a repeat of ‘20), and prices started to go up a couple months early. The plan worked and I did a final purchase (including 2 bricks of 22lr) at slightly increased prices.

$7.99 a box for that PMC 5.56x45 is a great price - the on-line stuff is $.54 a round now - this is a case where your local dealer pricing off of their actual price delivered is an opportunity. We are def in for a severe shortage and price hike. It's started already - the panic buying is driving the immediate situation but long-term, vista being bought by the Czech Billionaire and Lake City ceasing civilian production is going to really affect future availability and cost. Timely video.

I recently talked to a friend of mine who is a the ammo buyer at Scheels. He indicated that orders for ammo are getting scarce. He can only get very limited items regarding .223 and 5.56. He stated that Lake City plant canceled all the .223/5.56 orders and is channeling all its production to the military. Next will be all the other NATO rounds (.308, 9MM etc). Don't want to panic anyone...but it's gonna hit the fan much like it did several years ago.

Glad you're feeling better, and have missed your videos. About a month ago I went into a pawn shop and bought one of my bucket list tools, and the ammo that came with it for a smokin deal. Then we had back to back weekends of gun shows before SHTF overseas, and Speer being bought out. The ammo prices were the same VS ordering online and shipping. Picked up some more for the new tool, and some extra for my main load outs. NOW every shop withing 100 miles+ is totally out of 5.56/.223, and no telling when it will come back. One thing that was plentiful was 7.62x39, and good prices on that as well.I hope everyone got as lucky as myself, and can still get their main ammo before all hell breaks loose.

First of all, I really appreciate what you do for the gun community. The ammo tests, the ammo availability, everything.
About three weeks ago, right before the mess about Lake City Arsenal and Hornady, I had a feeling I should get some more 9mm, 124 gr FMJ. While not ideal, it will go bang and make a hole. Much better than an empty gun. I have plenty of LE JHP but you can never have too much. Think of the book, "One Second After" by William R Forstchen. I found Norma 124 gr FMJ for like $229 per case and ordered it, just to top off my 9mm stash. This past Sunday, with the Czech acquisition fresh, a friend was looking to top off their 9mm. I looked where I had bought the Norma a couple of weeks earlier.
When I bought the 1K case, it was $229. With shipping, tax, and other stuff it was $289 total for me. This past Sunday, it was now $319 for the 1K case, BEFORE taxes, shipping, etc. Oh, and the worst part, it was that price IF it had been available. It was now no longer available from that business.
I knew we would see another shortage by Nov, 2024, but had hoped it would not kick in before July or August of 2024. I don't expect this to improve much before late November of 2024, IF then. 😢

I totally Agree with your assessment of an impending shortage. I've been buying cases of every caliber I need, which has my wife wondering. There are too many problems in the World. Any one of them can cause shortages of just about anything and everything. Thanks for confirming what I saw coming on the horizon.
I don't know DoubleTap very well. I have shot some of their ammo before. I think it was their 10mm about maybe 20 years ago? It was unremarkable, in that I can't remember it well.
I've noticed with some manufacturers, and I can't remember who, change their projectiles, but keep the same bullet weight. To some, a JHP is a JHP. Maybe 35 years ago, that was true. Back then, none of them worked. So, maybe that's what happened with the one box of DoubleTap you have.
I'll buy some more of the Underwood 150gr & 180gr ASP ammo on sale. I only have about 500 rounds left of the 150gr anyway. The Nosler ASP design doesn't seem to hold up as well as the Hornady XTP, but the XTPs are not on sale. I get their Veterans Discount, but the difference in cost doesn't make up for what I have in my budget.
Have a good week and I hope you feel better, Brother.

@@ToolsandTargets I have to admit I'm a bit envious that you have a nice range set up in your back yard lol. In my neck of the woods here in NE Ohio unless one is a member of a club or conservation league it's tough to find a place to shoot. Si I have to drive nearly 30 miles to the one place I have permission to shoot and being on a small fixed income I can only afford the gas to do that once a month.I like to get 2 50 rounds boxes of 9mm, shoot up one box and hold the other back to slowly build up my supply. At the very least That way I can keep myself proficient at 7 yards and under. As far as the long range pistol shots you do here I'm just not there yet lol

I have some older Doubletap ammo in 10mm, probably from around 2018. All of my bonded bullet's are definitely Gold Dot's. All the controlled expansion are definitely Nosler's. Most of the ammo is brass cases in 50 round boxes. Some are nickel cases, but those are the 20 round boxes. I prefer nickel for a carry round, but it's the projectile that does the work. I am very curious to see how this newer ammo performs in the Jelly Test's. Hopefully the velocities are true.

I've been scrounging around for loaded ammo in my main calibers, mainly for the brass and to try a few different factory loads...there is no one stop shop though. I think I've hit 5-6 different places not counting Federal and Remington direct. Slugs, 00 buck, 30-30, 45-70 and 45 Auto mostly. Components are really scarce right now. Especially primers and bullets.

Nice score this wk and i dont blame you one bit on buying 223 at that price Tools!! And i agree we won't see it that low again, least not for a long time! Definitely interested in that controlled chaos round to see how it performs. Also i looked when you were at your local shop , least what was shown they only had the hornady 223 vmax, never seen those down here, only the fmj and sp's. I only mentioned it because i asked you about how you thought those would perform in their soft point offering or if you had ever tried them. Gotta say that store looks awesome! A few boxes every pay day. Prices have been good. If I find a nice price on something I'll grab a few boxes. 9mm is holding and in stock around here. You're right about big box store letting their shelve run dry. On week nothing, the next week shelves are loaded up. Folks see empty shelves and they are all like, oh, it's the ammo shortage. When Xtac greentips started to surpass $10, I stocked up on that. When Tula 7.62 surpassed $5 a box, I loaded up on that. People have to plan ahead and stop wasting ammo at the range also. I live in Richmond VA and the Walmarts around me don't carry handgun ammo for the past few years I thought they were just always out but I looked a little closer and they don't even have stocking stickers where the ammo could be displayed so I asked the employee in the sporting section what's up with the pistol ammo he said ever since the ammo shortage they never restocked any and he hasn't heard anything about ever restocking in the future. Now if I want to get ammo I have to drive 30 to 45 minutes to green top I love that place or do what I do most of the time and order online witch is only good if I am buying 1000 rounds or more. I miss the good old days when Walmart had ammo and ammo was cheaper $ 9 for a box of 50 9mm FMJ's.
