Last year I hardly heard a gobble, but I saw more turkeys than ever. They just weren't talking much. Sometimes, I see what I think are subordinate Toms. They come up and look but don't strut or gobble. Every season is different. Keep the lessons coming, Matt. Thank you.

I've hunted turkeys for a hand full of years here in upstate NY. Just like deer hunting there are no set rules on what a Tom might do. The more hours spent in the woods the more you will know . Dale is a down to earth no nonsense hunter with a vast knowledge of hunting. I really enjoy his videos. In the many words of T.S Van Dyke -- Patience is golden....

Upstate NY is a hot or cold place. Love hunting there where I grew up. I feel like some years you get real silent gobblers and some years you cant turn around without hearing one where you just were.

A few years ago me and my dad hunted all year and probably heard maybe 2 gobbles all year. the very last day of the season we went in thinking it was over, wasn't gunna get anything. then behold out of nowhere we walked over the hill and 3 gobblers gobbled at once at 1:30 pm. we both got one that day. It's really frustrating sometimes but if you want to succeed you have to go out and hunt!

That’s true in a few places but not everywhere. There’s a lot of turkeys around still. But there is spots in the country where the numbers are down some. It’s just not everywhere where people are complaining. That was my point I was making. Thanks for watching

Yep and that is due to the over population of nest predators...coons possums and skunks

I hunted Tennessee for five years until the license went out of sight! My dear friend Fred and I hunted together and we often discussed the turkey population in tn. Tn. Doesn’t have the turkeys they use to! Predators and 5 bird limit doesn’t help!

True, we have been lucky in Illinois with good weather during nesting season and have had decent clutches. We are killing a lot of coyotes and that helps but the nest predators are still a real problem and the state decided we need bobcats too but they don't seem to be doing too much damage. The state claims they had nothing to do with it but we have seen cats with radio collars in the middle of the state. I like bobcats but I like turkeys more.
Thank you for the shows you do and the tips I know it has helped me out over the years. Good luck this spring!!

I hunted a turkey that was call shy and decoy shy. Always hung up just out of sight the first season I hunted him. Second year I got him. I changed everything how I hunted him. Silence was golden. For some birds you just need to shut up.

On one hunt I met another hunter on the way. He told me that all the turkeys there had been shot and no on was seeing any. I didn't buy it. later, I scored a really nice turkey. Even if they don't gobble they are still there. It sometimes takes extreme patience and restraint.

This I took my 11 year old Grandson out for his Youth Turkey weekend. It was a Beautiful Morning and Our Gobbler got on a Hen pretty early. I put my Grandson in a Doghouse Blind with a Hen and a Jake out front of him. That Hen was being Loud so I started being Loud and cutting her off. Well I got the best of that hen and That Gobbler came in, Beat up our Jake and in Range of Lukes 20 gauge. Luke missed his bird that morning but what a Perfect Hunt for a First Timer. Everything I ever told him about what a Gobbler does he got to witness. Dale you have given me so much knowledge about the Turkey Hunting Game. Seems like I’m taking my Friends out and calling for them more then I’m hunting for myself. But I’m passing on the knowledge you have given me and I Hope I’m instilling the Love for Our Sport to as many as I can. Bless You Brother I Appreciate all You have done for Our Sport.

What I have learned this year the HARD WAY with silent gobblers after having had to see them walk off because they came in on my right, and being right handed, is to learn to shoot with both hands, left and right. With a gobbling tom, you can adjust to them most of the time, and get set up on the way you think they are going to come in. A silent one however can come in on you on the wrong side of your set up. So you can either leave them go as I have a number of times in the past 15 years, or learn to shoot with the other hand. There is no way to swing on one unless they get behind a tree, believe me you have less than a second (having tried that and failed a number of times), so slowly getting the gun to your other hand is the only way it could work.

Great video. Yes, let’s see some more of that seminar. I’m up here hunting these north Alabama gobblers while you’re down hunting the south Alabama ones. Had a gobbler servicing hens for about 1 1/2 hours yesterday at 55 yards. He knows exactly how far my Mossberg 835 will shoot! Anyway, good luck & thanks for the videos!
