Only those who have been recruited in to Volunteer Reserve will understand the subtext in their stories but my first wild camp was under an Oak tree in somewhere in Herefordshire. Beautiful countryside. On the way there some VR pilot's smiled knowingly and waved as they past me on my 100cc Honda motorbike. I only had a backpack and a sleeping bag strapped to the back seat.
By sunset I happened to see some scouts setting up camp in a nice grazing paddock by the side of the road. Asked if I could join them and just rolled out my bag under an oak tree. It had been a glorious summer day and I slept one of those sleeps so deep and blissful. You never forget peak moments in life like that. And then on to Brecon Beacons.....and reaquaitance with the old family.
Compared to any other country, the British countryside is very gentle and benign in the summer time.
I have many fond associations with British Military issue. Feels good to use it. Understated, practical and gives you the ability to wander unnoticed in an increasingly surveiled world.

Nice one JB ...the army Bergen’s are great , especially for the money.....I’ve just this week got a brand new one, it’s the virtus Mark 3 90 litre , Mark three first issued in 2018 apparently, they made improvements to the back padding etc. I’ve had all sorts of packs, military, Karrimor, Berghaus etc. , but this new mk 3 is fantastic, I think it’s the best pack I’ve ever had, just so comfortable, highly recommend

My father served in the Canadian military and had got a big green canvas army tent to use for family camping...it weighed a ton...was a beast to set up...but served our family of four as sleeping quarters, kitchen and dining area for many years...some of the best years that I remember from my childhood...

The fallen trees have created a natural area for a fire 👌

Beautiful woodland. A similar set up to mine JB when I sleep on the ground. If I hammock camp I cocoon my hammock in a Brit Army adapted bivvy bag that provides insulation and waterproof layer but I usually still deploy a DD 3m x 3m tarp over the top. Works well for me. I always carry my hammock so that I have the choice to sleep on the ground or suspended, trees permitting. Really enjoying your channel. Happy wandering. Paul 👍😊

Wicked video mate lol big cat more then Lilly to be a wild boar rather then a cat but there’s always that 1% chance lol I have the same bivi bag it is awesome have been tempted to fit a zip to it for easier access in and out. Sombody do say I should see a mozzie net in to it and add some loops for a pole cost if about £20 to mod but I dnt know
Il like the zip down the side idea though I have a desert and dpm but not the mtp basha it’s the one left I need lol

The army gor-tex bivvy is very good. Packs small and lightweight. The only thing is, like most bivvys its a bit of a wiggle job to get in it if your shelter is low / small like mine was last night. Thats the only place where the miltec one beats it with its side zip. They add a nice bit of extra warmth to your sleeping bag too.
