    • @floyd2222
      @floyd2222 Месяц назад +1

      @@jefflantz666 it isn't that a deep playoff run wouldn't generate a tone more cash - it is that the status quo is SAFER than making a bunch of changes that might not pay off, and could mean less bums in seats, less sponsor revenue, etc. Mgmt types are risk averse generally - if they are already doing very well, they will not want to risk eroding the revenue base (and their bonuses...). This is why they don't materially change anything, they don't know what will happen if they change things.

      In the Leafs' case, they threw money at a problem that didn't even exist. Then, as Steve said, they need to get out of the sports business and run grocery stores. This is a results-based business and they're screwing over the fans by not icing a team that has a legit chance to win a cup. They'll give out all these high-priced contracts to their beloved Core 4, which was beyond stupid, but they're too damn scared to put together a team that can contend. Next year, they're going waste away another year of having arguably the best goal scorer because they're too scared to make changes.
      And the fans love of this team and selling out games and filling Maple Leafs Square is exactly what is incentivizing them to continue to not make changes.

    06:53 The problem with the Leafs: Is because they should have brought in Lou Lamoriello before the 2015 draft and never replaced him with Dubas. Lou sunk the Leafs to get Matthews and two years later the Leafs had 49 wins. The team had good splits between lines. There was stable leadership from management. The Leafs have 4 more years of Matthews, at the moment no stable goaltending, no stable defensive corp, 2.5 lines and a team build for the regular season. Brad didn't go all in this year because he knew the Leafs were not anywhere near good enough for a deep playoff run. The 2024-25 season may turn out to be a step backwards if both JT and MM stay.

    Sure, you can sit there and say look, 2nd round, 3rd round, we make A LOT of money from that.... Why aren't we DOING that.....
    But at the same time.... The Fans are angry.... Fire the coach. That's the answer in a lot of sports, at a lot of levels.... You can't fire all the players.... So you fire the coach.

      His take was mostly just sharing the perspective of the board and why they might justify little, if any, change. I don’t think it was his personal opinion

    What is with the guy in the beard! He doesn’t know his ass from his elbow. This isn’t basketball. This is not the Raptors. Just because he spouts off with the NHL makes a year that’s the only thing he said of any relevance

    Lol typical delusional fans, they're in the entertainment business, the bottom line is all that has ever mattered and nobody is willing to change the team in risk of them losing/making angry fans if the team gets worse. They'd rather play it safe as teams do n have lost money n that's LOSING to them, not W n Ls on some schedule score sheet.

      Yup, I won’t subscribe to this one. My 10 year old goalie devours everything hockey on youtube but is only allowed to view what I subscribe to. The f bombs are pretty disappointing. Typically a strong indicator of a lack of vocabulary/intelligence.

      The politics and the culture behind the scenes set by MLSE ownership (Rogers and Bell) is the issue. Lou Lamorello left because he probably didn't like the circus behind the scenes in the board rooms. Ownership isn't going away. So the problem with the Leafs will remain.

      Who do you think approved Dubas to give out those contracts. The team president, Shanahan. Why do you think Dubas shown the door? He was finally willing to break up the Core 4 and wanted autonomy to be able to do it, and Shanahan said no and fired him. And then he brings in Treliving, knowing it's going to take him time to get settled with the organization and that he won't have enough awareness of the situation to make any changes to the Core 4 before their NMCs kicked in. Shanahan has put the Core 4 above the Maple Leafs.
