I have been making bread for years and have tried lots of recipes both by hand and with a bread maker. My husband though has always loved store brought sandwiches bread and i have never been able to bake an alternative he likes more. But after trying your recipe last week i can now successfully say he has given me the thumbs up. We have a winner 🤣🤣 have made it again a few times now and all three critics (children included) love it and its just a bonus that it’s the easiest bread i have ever made. Thank you for sharing
So easy ... so delicious ... I have never successfully baked bread even with a breadmaker but after watching this video I thought I'd give it another shot. Turned out perfect ... thank you.
I had made the bread tonight. It came out very nice. Thanks for a nice recipe i had learned so much from your channel. You and your kids are so lovely. Keep up your great work :)
Interesting what people think of bread. When my wife and I were in N.Z last year (and she is a sourdough bread girl ) we bought some of that cheap bread and she really liked it.. Odd I though but then she fell in love with New Zealand pickled onions too. That malt vinegar did it I think. We just got rid of our bread maker, I will be making our own again I guess. thank you for sharing.
Yeah some people love the $1 loaves they make in Cooplands - my tribe not so much! So this ended up way cheaper than the expensive supermarket loaves they liked!
Hello, I've been gifted a 4.5l Dutch oven. Instead of making two i put all the dough in it - made a huge loaf!! Any ideas to tweak the recipe to use a bit less of everything considering it's only one loaf?
I haven't tried it myself but have been told it works! You could always halve it and just make one loaf as an experiment, but a 50/50 mix should work well 🙂
I used only 0.75 tsp of yeast in 4.5 cups of flour, 3 hours later I had similar raised dough! But I didn't mix salt and yeast together as salt deactivates yeast, first mixed the yeast well with the flour, then mixed salt, then added warm water (baby bath temperature).
Oh that's interesting I'll have to have a play with the amounts and see what happens! Yeah since filming this I've learned it's best to add them separately, so I usually add the salt after the flour now (live and learn! lol)
Hey - no this recipe makes two loaves - so just one tablespoon of salt and four cups of flour per loaf :) I have found you can reduce the salt a bit though if you prefer, especially if it's going to be eaten within a day or so.
I've been making bread using your recipe now for over 6mths. It's so easy. But your face is sooooo familiar to me. Did you ever work in Rotorua before having a family?
I dont know how you make them for 90c each when you go through nearly a bag of flour at $2 something a bag. However, I love the simplicity of your recipe and thank you for sharing.
Actually should add this is in the Rangiora Pak'n Save - I just went to check prices online and looks like North Island might be a bit more expensive if that's where you are … but you get the idea - lol
@@CheaperWaysNZ Im all about the cheaper ways for sure. Wish I was in your town but in my small town of Marton its $1.99 for that bag of 1.5kg High Grade Flour, sad for me lol However Im still impressed with your style. I spent many an age kneeding bread only to discover this now that my kids are in their 20's lol. Thanks for this.
Hi are you able to add the recipe to the information panel under the video? Or provide a summary at the end of the video which I could screenshot of the recipe/process??
Yep sure, just typed out the recipe in the description :) Thanks for the request, I've been doing this to my newer videos so let me know if there's any others I haven't added the recipes to in the description as yet that you'd like me to!
I hate those $1 loaves of crap supermarket bread. They are such a false economy as people eat more of it to feel satisfied. The taste of the bread is absolute shit, it's like eating air! Love your recipe, am going to make it this weekend.
haha - yeah if you have a warm room making it yourself is a bit quicker ... takes us a couple of hours. When we used a breadmaker we used to set it going overnight (but then had to keep it in the shed as it was too noisy!)
I am not sure where my other comment went but mentioned this was very similar to another kiwi bread...but Jo's had 100ml less water and half flour was wholemeal etc
Just a note that you can easily halve the amount of salt if you like :)
Love the way you are teaching your son maths using everyday experiences. Good job.
Thanks! Funny you should mention as I put a video out this morning just about this topic (teaching young kids)! :)
tried this yesterday with my 12 year old and it actually worked!! thanks Sarah x
Awesome!! This recipe has been a huge money-saver for us as we can easily go through a loaf a day 😂
Your channel has been life-saving for me. I'm humbly grateful.
Oh thank you so much - comments like that keep me going!! 😊

Awesome thanks for the feedback! We do have a breadmaker but always had mixed results with it - this recipe has never failed us! :)

YOUR VIDEO IS SO CLEAR!
Thanks :)
Love this recipe! So simple!
It really is & saved so much money!
Nice looking bread....😁
Thanks - it's our regular now - so easy!
Finally trying your bread recipe today 🤩 so far soo good!
Yay 😀👍
Flaxseeds/linseeds are great to add to your bread, lots of health benefits, including omega 3.😀
I know, they're not the cheapest but make it so nice! Sunflower seeds too!
this is such a simple recipe... thank you so much and i may have to try this... love your assistant
I've managed to cut out buying bread completely now - it's so easy once you get into the habit of making it!

Awesome - let me know how you get on!!
Love this video!! Very helpful!!
Great thanks!
Awesome bread recipe 8)
Thanks - it's my regular "go to" :)
Sorry, I am confused on the temperature of the oven for baking the bread. American here. Love your videos!
Thanks! It's 220 Celsius, which is 428 Farenheit 🙂
Thank you;)
You're welcome!
Hello, I've been gifted a 4.5l Dutch oven. Instead of making two i put all the dough in it - made a huge loaf!! Any ideas to tweak the recipe to use a bit less of everything
considering it's only one loaf?
Absolutely - usually I only make half the amount these days to make one loaf at a time, same cooking directions etc 😊
Hi Sarah
If I halved the receipe how many tablespoons of yeast would I need would it be just one ?
Thanks
Yep just one will do - you can easily reduce the amount of salt as well - I generally just put about half a tablespoon per loaf these days 👍
Hi, curious to know if some of the white flour could be substituted with wholemeal? Perhaps a 50/50 mix? I’d hate experiment and mess up 2 loaves.
I haven't tried it myself but have been told it works! You could always halve it and just make one loaf as an experiment, but a 50/50 mix should work well 🙂
Thanks for coming back to me. I’m going to try it tomorrow
Delicious but sorry to say I found the background music very distracting
Thanks for feedback! This was back when I was playing with background music in my videos - I have learned to tone it down a bit since then 🙂👍

Hey Sarah, just about to make your bread recipe....is it really 2 tablespoons of salt for one loaf? For 4 cups of flour...or teaspoons? Cheers

Do you think this would work with gluten free flour?
Someone told me a while back they tried it with gluten free flour and it worked - so worth a go! 😊
@@CheaperWaysNZ OK i will give it a go. Thanks
I've been making bread using your recipe now for over 6mths. It's so easy. But your face is sooooo familiar to me. Did you ever work in Rotorua before having a family?
No I lived in Auckland from when I was 12 & moved back to the South Island about 13 years ago ... my husband was born in Rotorua!
I dont know how you make them for 90c each when you go through nearly a bag of flour at $2 something a bag. However, I love the simplicity of your recipe and thank you for sharing.
Pams flour is $1.06/kg, which is approx. 8 cups, and that makes 2 loaves :)
Actually should add this is in the Rangiora Pak'n Save - I just went to check prices online and looks like North Island might be a bit more expensive if that's where you are … but you get the idea - lol

I know right! My husband had to have twice as many sandwiches when we bought that stuff!
Try the $1.50 loaves. The difference is like night and day, flour n water and real bread.
I used to have a breadmaker. It would take 3 and a half hours to make a loaf. Nobody got time for that.
haha - yeah if you have a warm room making it yourself is a bit quicker ... takes us a couple of hours. When we used a breadmaker we used to set it going overnight (but then had to keep it in the shed as it was too noisy!)
I'm just trying this now but my mix seems a lot wetter than yours after mixing all ingredients together.
Hey just saw your comment - did it end up ok?
@@CheaperWaysNZ it did but I think it might have been lighter if not so wet.
Ah well maybe experiment with a bit more flour - maybe different brands react differently maybe - or an extra 10mins in the oven?
I am not sure where my other comment went but mentioned this was very similar to another kiwi bread...but Jo's had 100ml less water and half flour was wholemeal etc
Bread almost sounds like beard.
Bit less hairy
