Theorists, by now most of us have seen the videos by @EddyBurback and @TedNivison. They inspired me to take my own trip to a Rainforest Café, so while I was out of the country I went to the one in Paris! No, not for the food or the ambiance. For. The. LORE! That's right. I needed to find out if this theme restaurant had any hidden lore and, Theorist, I think it may just be the next FNAF. Yes, you read that right. Let's go!

I used to love this place when I was really little. I was like borderline obsessed with jungles and nature for over half of my life tbh. I still like their aesthetic too.

If you told me Rainforest Cafe is the result of someone experiencing some sort of insane acid trip, told their friends about it, and they told him "You should replicate that acid trip and make it an actual concept"....I'd believe you. I wanted to go to this sooo badly as a kid. My parents never let me :( I'm hoping I can go to the Disneyland Paris location this year before it's announced its gonna close or something. It feels safe, magical, silly. The message at the end really summed it up for me, it feels like such a wonderful experience of child-like wonder :')

I lived near a mall with a Rainforest Cafe for a few years during college, and although I didn't really have much nostalgia for it (I think I only went once as a very young kid) I really appreciated the atmosphere even just outside of the restaurant. It was a bit more shaded, the walls were made of tropical wood (or plastic that looks like it more likely) and it actually had a much more relaxed vibe than the rest of the mall, so it was nice to pass by it as the last thing I see before I'm out the door.
There was a Rainforest Cafe in my city mall. I don’t think we ever ate there but we did play in it. I have a vague memory of my mom talking in her phone and holding my shirt like a cat making sure I didn’t fall into the “river” where the crocodile lives

This is exactly why i love living in Japan. They've kept the weird and adventurous themed cafes and restaurants alive while they are slowly dying in the US.

This past summer, I finally got to meet my online friends. We had known each other for years, and we had all saved enough to get a small Air BnB and have a week of fun in person. We picked Niagra Falls Canada, since about half of the group lived there. On the second day, we spent our time at Clifton Hill (basically Niagra Fall's tourist trap). I got to spend the day watching the falls and going on rides with my friends. Then we rounded out the night at the Rainforest Cafe. Ted and Eddie's video had recently came out, so we all NEEDED to go there for the joke. But, we ended up having such an amazing time. We all got to laugh and bond and be with each other for the first time in person, with the backdrop of the Rainforest Cafe. We laughed at the elephant screaming next to us, acted fake scared at the lightnight, and actually ate some half decent food (even though it cost most of the money I had set aside for food the entire trip). While many of peoples fond memories of this place was from childhood, I am still happy to say that I as an adult have made memories to last a lifetime at this chain.
When I was younger, there was a Rainforest Café in Chicago that my family took me to every once in a while. Unfortunately it closed during the pandemic, but what I wouldn’t give to revisit that specific location just to see it again. I’m glad to see the Rainforest Café also lives on in other peoples’ hearts, and now Ollie’s, too

I went to a rainforest cafe once when I went to Disney world with my family. I don't remember much, but I do remember the rainstorms (those were my favorite parts) and the dinosaur themed build a bear where I got a pink stegosaurus. It's one of those restaurants I want to go to again, and definitely will at so point
I loved the rainforest cafe growing up, i would always sit on the bar stools that looked like animal legs (only the ones with a tail for some reason) Great memories of that restaurant with my family

its pretty rare to find one with fish. ours in Gurnee illionis got rid of them because they were just too expensive to maintain. also, the gift shop now is SUPER tiny now.

My heart is so full with this video! I grew up without a lot of money, but I always loved lizards and frogs. My mom found Cha Cha and Iggy at a goodwill once and gave them to me for Christmas. I loved those toys, but had no idea what they were. About 5 years later, we got to go on a trip to Michigan for my dad's job. At the mall they had a rainforest cafe. I was 10 years old and we were just walking by when I saw Iggy and Cha Cha inside. I practically screamed and went running inside. We couldn't afford to eat there, but just seeing that world come to life around me, seeing my little toys moving on a larger-than-life scale, it was the most magical moment. I got a stuffed snake from the gift shop that I still have to this day. Rainforest cafe will always hold a special place in my heart.
When the video opened up and they were talking about lore, I was like “ah yes, who died this this time? What secrets does this family friendly restaurant hold? What have you uncovered MatPat?” And then I was hit with genuine feelings, memories of childhood, and history facts that I wasn’t prepared for. I don’t know wether to be upset that there are no skeletons in closets or sad that there isn’t one near me
I'm still sad hearing about the one Rainforest Cafe that I could've reasonably gone to (Yorkdale Mall) closed down awhile back, I miss the days of getting spooked by the tree and tossing pennies into the crocodile mouth

This video makes me remember the time I spent at Rainforest Cafe, there was one in a mall near my house and I ate it all up, I loved the place. I even got a Plush Snake from the shop that I still have to this day. Sure, it's banged up abit, but the video made me think about it alittle more.
My experience with Rainforest Cafe is all from the one near me, so maybe each is different, but my experience is that you go for the atmosphere, not for the food. The animatronics, the decorations, the sound effects and lighting, are all lovely. The food is... mediocre. At least it's not outright bad food, I guess.
I agree the drinks are pretty good but the food is meh.
I went there as a baby in Minnesota a long time ago I can barely remember it and I thought it was a dream and this year I went to Minnesota and saw that it’s a real restaurant but we didn’t go but it shocked me when I saw it lol

When my cousin survived cancer, our entire family went to Disney to celebrate. One night we ate at the rainforest cafe. My family was the only ones who had already eaten there, so I watched them experience all the lovely chaos for the first time. Special memories I’ll never forget

@@anoyint it was the most magical Disney experience I’ve ever had. When we took a family photo on Main Street, the morning show was just finished up, and fireworks launched into the air. Our photos had litteral fireworks framing the castle behind us.
Basically something similar for me my little brother had cancer and his make a wish pick was to go to Florida/Disney and we went to this restaurant also. I think there was also a dinosaur themed one also
@@Alex32304 I love the Dino restaurant! we chose the rainforest one bc it’s more fun for kids, and we were all really young at the time. I remember once I deliberately stuck my ear up a geode and the Dino one bc I wanted to see if the crystals would fit up my ear 😂
Losing this place near me was heartbreaking, it's still my favorite restaurant as an adult.

The first time I ever went to a rain forest cafe I found alittle bit of mold on the bottom of my bread bowl and the waitress and manager were SUPER apologetic. I didn’t really care I grew up in an “eat around the mold” family so I was just expecting maybe a new entree or comping my meal. NO they paid for my whole family’s meal (6 people) and we got a free dessert!! This is a long story to say they are the best and thanks for the free food 7 years ago

He was morbidly afraid of it.
My current partner joked that they were traumatized by the animatronics that I didn’t even notice the one time I went to our local one.

They’re my favourite animal
As a 90s child I loved visiting the Rainforest Cafe in Kansas City because I was fascinated with the animatronics. However, my parents could never afford eating there or buying anything from the store. So most of my childhood when we went to the mall was just getting to spend time standing and watching the animatronics in the store area, my favorite being the crocodile that would eat pennies at the front. Unfortunately my parents and I relocated to Arizona far away from any of the locations of this restaurant.
On a lighter note my relatives took me to eat inside once I was a preteen for my birthday. They also bought me a shirt, a collectors plate, a tiny storage box, and a few lizard and frog toys. I still have the storage box today.

The rainforest cafe is super cool I agree, but you cannot say that as children you weren’t terrified of eating there! To me as a child this was somehow more terrifying to me than Chuck-e-cheese. Like I’d cry genuine tears inside the rainforest cafe anytime we were sat anywhere remotely close to an animatronic, and the thunder storms were what freaked me out the most. It was constant noise occasionally interrupted by louder noise and yet now I’m able to appreciate it for the absolute jungle of an experience that it is. Thank you Rainforest Cafe for the comfort you bring others and for the night terrors you gave me.

Technically, each channel is just a different class, food theory is like home ec and history and game theory is math and I don't know what film theory and style theory would be cause I haven't watched either in either a while or period
Wow I was expecting the usual "There is Dark Scary lore here" Theory like always. I mean it is literally his Job to (as he puts it) "Ruin our childhoods" after all. So this was very unexpected! But very sweet and nice, a break from the usual dark stuff. Also Ollie IS THE CUTEST KID EVER!!!
I live right by the mall of America, and when I was little, we would sometimes go to the rainforest café. And one time we went there for my little sisters birthday, (which was actually on earth day) and they were celebrating earth day by having the little kids (like we were) plant pipe-cleaner flowers in real soil and pots for us to take home. This just goes to show that you were right! And my sister and I never went to chuck-e-cheese because... it was loud and creepy. So yeah :)

I am so glad you even mentioned Bugaboo Steakhouse. That place was my childhood. As a kid growing up outside of Boston, I had so many birthday parties there (well and Bertucci's). I miss Bugaboo and cried the day the one local to me closed.
This video is so genius in so many fun ways, It's the team cashing in on the recent Rainforest Cafe hype, an actual cool an comprehensive history lesson on theme restaurants and a genuine heartfelt discussion on restaurant escapism.

Strangely enough, I was never scared of the Rainforest Cafe. I always wanted the thunderstorms to happen and always got super excited when it did. If anything, my Grandma was more scared of it than little me 😅

There once was a rainforest cafe at Downtown Disney at Disneyland. I used to go there almost every single trip when I was younger. I never knew there was lore.

Same I remember that one! I was not pumped for it, because of the thunderstorms every 20 mins and its always loud because it reminds me of FNAF with jungle vibes I love their food but I've never had it since!
I loved this restaurant as a kid and tried to go to it every trip and I still do. I love these theories too.
I love Rainforest Cafe. It was something fun I remember as a kid. I made sure I went twice on my honeymoon. I even went to the one in the mall in Nashville on a double date before I moved away. It is always fun to watch the fish swim around and the thunderstorm was fun.

OH MY GOD Ollie's picking up the Matpat theorist vocal pattern! I can hear the same inflections mid-sentence and held extensions on the final word at the end of the sentences. I swear, he's a step away from learning how to mimic the scratchy vocal cord distortion that's used for the enthusiastically louder parts of the theorist voice.
Dadpat mode is adorable, and I crave more of it. As far as I'm aware, Ollie cameos have been clips of simple feedback questions or Matpat sharing a story of Ollie in the "witty banter" section of GTlive videos, so this was a cute surprise.
I'm a sucker for chill parent-child hanging out/activities because my Dad did that with me for as long as I can remember. So wholesome. ^-^
i agree! as dumb as it sounds, i feel like it's easy to forget that you tubers have families and stuff outside of youtube so seeing ollie is cute :) (also I went to like this comment and accidentally disliked it lol. I am very sorry please take my like)

This actually gave me a flashback, me and my family ate there once while visiting my aunt. I remember the first time the aimatronics first started moving my cousin started crying.
I'm pleasantly surprised that this is more of an appreciation video that was very sweet and endearing. Glad to see some much-needed comfort in the chaos that is our world now-a-days. Hope you're doing well Matpat and taking care of yourself along with your family

I never knew rainforest cafe existed until a couple weeks ago when I went to Nashville and saw it. It was wacky and creative and I enjoyed my experience
The location where I grew up no longer exists. Probably a good thing. I got food poisoning there all 3 times I went. I see Rainforest Cafe and my body shudders in memory of how sick I got after going there. Clearly that location had issues.
How the conversation for this definitely went:
"Do you wanna go to the Rainforest Cafe?”
"Do you have a coupon?“
“Well if we make a video, we can write it off”
“So no coupon but we have a camera?“
"That works for me“
"Thats Cleveland pride right there! Takes a special city to set the water on fire." and launch so many balloons into the air to set a world record but ended up polluting the lake and clogging waterways which hindered a rescue mission out on the lake and led the coast guard to not find the fishermen they were looking for.

I LOVED The Woodfield Mall Rainforest Cafe. They literally replaced it with some Peppa Pig nightmare thing. walk past it during every mall visit lol
5:53 I had one of those near where I live. It had a talking moose head that freaked me and my siblings out as kids. It shut down around 2012, but it was finally bought out a few years ago and was turned into a moose-themed casino, presumably so the owners didn’t have to redo the outside of the building
