I love moving parts on ships, those folding wings were the final thing that made me buy it and the vanguard I don't regret a single aUEC i spent on any of those ships
YES! My favorite combat ship Farrister. This thing is awesome - four size threes and two missile racks? I am in love with the Saber. To me this is one of the currently dominating fighters in the verse'. Awesome videos as always man!
When this thing first came out it was a bane to all F7C-M Pilots. One of the few times I preferred gimbled M&K, as I was able to bait them into circle strafing me while I stood relatively still, out gunning them in head to head brawl. Both ships aint what they used to be, but with all the changes coming (SDF shields, physicalized damage & armor, flight surface controls, etc) I could see these ships coming back for blood against all them light fighters.
I owned sabre and every point you made is spot on. Been watching your ship reviews and i like the concise and well specified parts format. Subscribed and liked !
Another benefit of the Sabre is the location of the hard-points. All of them are within the body of the ship making it harder but not impossible to lose a weapon during combat. They have to shoot through armor from almost any angle to hit a hard-point directly unless they get off an extremely lucky shot directly from above or below. Other ships like the Hornet that have the hard-points external lose weapons to fire pretty easily in comparison.
Great review of the Sabre. I've always liked the ship, but the price for me has been it's biggest detractor. I would still like to have one. The stealth and hard hitting capability of it is really nice. With the right weapons loadout, it could do some serious damage. I tend to stay with an energy weapons loadout because of the limits on ammo carried with ballistic weapons. I do love those gatling guns for their hard hitting, but that ammo limit makes them expensive to operate, and limits your ability to loiter in the area of a fight. Thanks as always for the review Farrister. Fly safe and I'll see you in the verse.
As a bounty hunter i feel you missed an important con. With only 4 size 3s it can't complete ERT bounties (atleast not efficiently) which makes it a pretty bad choice for making money as a combat pilot in SC right now. If I was making recommendations for new players looking to make money as a bounty hunter I would recommend a Bucc, Hornet, or even an Avenger. The size 4 Slavation scattergun really makes shot work of a Hammerhead's shields. I ran out of fuel in my Hornet before it exploded, I earned 1.22 million before having to self destruct to get back to Everus.
I get your point and agree, although honestly, I think fighters taking out the supposedly anti-fighter Hammerhead right now is a bit cheesy, I'm not sure that's intended long term gameplay.
I own my own saber and I gotta say I’ve loved every minute behind the controls. If you are in the market for a fighter and for whatever reason don’t want a hornet you can easily turn her into a mean dog fighter similar to the hornet I honestly can’t recommend her enough. And with control surfaces coming in the not to distant future I can see her handling very well in atmosphere
Last time I was this early, Crusader was still the only planet in the PU. Joking aside, I'm a huge fan of the Sabre. I couldn't get my head around the weapon placement at first, but it's become my main fighter next to the Super Hornet. Especially within atmosphere the performance is incredible. The only thing I personally dislike is the bent-down cockpit breaking up the ship's profile. I'm one of the apparently few people actually using it as a stealth-fighter, which can be really fun especially against AI-Opponents. Also the missile bay closing when you disable your weapons is a nice touch. All in all a highly enjoyable ship, despite needing some time to get used to.
I too tend to use it as a stealth fighter, perfecting the art of ambushing. Though lately just teaching my newbie friends how pinging and how to combat stealth craft.
@@Farrister Considering your overall positive outlook on the Sabre, I'm curious about your opinion on the Raven variant, and if you'd be interested in making a review on it.
@@Farrister In case you don't have access to one, I'd gladly provide mine. Only recently acquired it and I must say, it's quite the different experience to the normal Sabre. But in no way disappointing.
Great review! Love this ship! The only disadvantage, for me, it's the back visibility when you are inside the cockpit and you turn your head to see behind you. For all the rest, it's a superb ship and the stealth component, as you said, adds a lot to the gameplay of the Sabre!
I love the Sabre, I had one but did a CCU to the Crusader Hercules Starlifter C2. I bought one in-game and have two builds for it. One pure stealth and the other all tank. It is a fast and versatile ship but mainly, she's beautiful
1 of the things you didnt mention is that the sabre's weaponry is for the most part towards center point, meaning although it is not as well armed, on paper. Having all guns going your likely to land shots from all guns, while something like the Superhornet with its wing mounts and turret, getting all guns on point will be more difficult.
My starter is an Aurora which I used for delivery and investigation missions until I could afford a Freelancer MAX - it was a hard slog that lasted months. With my first 2 mil in-game I bought a Sabre which rapidly generated 4 mil aUEC through bounty missions that I used buy a Caterpillar, which was what I really wanted. Then the trading bug forced me back into the Sabre, but I don't regret it. As a mouse and keyboard pilot the Sabre really delivers because of the predictable flight characteristics and the ability to make it tanky with military hardware really helps because stealth right now isn't that important unless you do PVP. Sabre is a good, sexy ship.
I own several fighters and my Sabre is almost always first ship I jump in. Three shields and 4 fixed size 3 guns mean you can load it out for whatever mission you need. And redundant power plant and coolers will keep you in the fight. Plus she flies great!
I m really looking forward to this ship. Me and my friend, we started with the avenger series, which gave us reasonable money with bounties. We switched them out (we still have them) for a sentinal and a prowler, which both made it easy for us to get hammerheads missions done very fast. We did some Roc mining with the Conny, started mining with the Mole. My friend already got the eclipse and I blink forward to the sabre. I mean its a very lovley and also powerful ship and expands more of another niche in the game, experimenting with stealth. The next step would be a carrack, but since we mostly play at 2-3 people, the carrack/HH/Retaliator are not the goal. I rather love the reclaimer, for its future gameplayloop. Thanks for the Guide. Sabre definitly it is!
Great review of one of my favorite fighters! Big fan of your channel. If you ever want to borrow a Raven to do a variant review, hit me up (probably a great opportunity once 3.18 goes live with all the EMP changes). Happy to spawn and hand one over as many times as you like.
They're both really capable, although I'd suggest both as ingame purchases. It entirely depends on your preferences and playstyle - what else do you fly?
@@Farrister Mostly my Connie. I also have a Cuttie which is a great, great starter, but I have a hard time making a decision on the smaller ones (fight role). I'll most likely end up buying both SH and Sabre as you said. And the Khartu'Al because it's super agile and fun to play.
Can't say I prefer this over the Hornet Ghost, since it has the added versatility of the ball mount where you can put a S4 or 2xS2 guns, has a lower EM signature and has higher hull HP. Good review though, subbed.
The Sabre and Eclipse are two ships I have because I want to explore stealth and although stealth tech is expensive these ships play a terrifying role if you think about it 🤔
They should really update some of the ship designs at some point. Like the Sabre, where the exterior looks modern and sleek and the cockpit looks like from an ancient WW2 plane. Or the Hornet, especially the Hornet Ghost, which looks like a WW2 cockpit was bolted onto a 21st century plane.
Its my go to ship. Tried a lot of ships and this is my favourite for NPC bounties. I use a partly stealthy build and like to sneakily close the distance and then fire off all the missiles before moving in to dogfight. The three shields and flying elusively mean I don’t take much damage.
It has been about 2 years since I traded up my Saber die for a Warden. But I recall being disappointed with the Gladius. Hornet, Buccaneer, and even Superhornet. Finally with the Saber I had a ship I felt "meets expectations" The 3rd shield makes it tough as hell, and the Superhornet really only, in practical terms, upsizes 1 Gun from size 3 to 4. So until Armor becomes a factor, the 3rd shield Makes a big difference. I'd have to say the Saber is my favorite fighter under $200 and is scheduled to be part of my day 1 fleet
@@Farrister I think it would be cooler if that ship didn't die so easily. I've got a heartseeker now, and I'm keeping it. I can always put a SH turret on it and host a gunner. My take is that the USEFULNESS of the Sabre has been outshined by the Talon, for a few reasons (that might be temporary). The Talon is easier to fit in the hangar of a larger ship, like the 890 Jump, Polaris, or the like. It's stealthier (-30% signature vs -20% on the Sabre), carries fewer, but heavier guns which is supposed to be relevant when armor is implemented. And you can somehow summon the Talon to a vehicle landing pad. ...But all that being said, if that very useful and versatile Talon stealth fighter were to encounter a hostile Sabre out in space, if I had my choice I'd prefer to be the guy in the Sabre. It's just the tankiest small-size fighter out there, and the tankiest ship in general that handles well for a real turning dogfight.
I agree, I own a Talon and I'm eyeballing the Sabre because it seems less flimsy. The 4 size 3's should also out-dps the Talon's 2 size 4's I think. I'd love to see a comparison between the two.
@@Bobtb Yeah, without question the Sabre outDPS's the Talon, it's not even close. 4 S3 Mantis gatlings put out 1930 DPS (without overclock), two Revenant gatlings put out 1343 (also without overclock). When armor is implemented though, the size of the weapon is meant to matter in terms of how much damage gets absorbed by the armor, so there's a good chance two S4s are useful against a wider variety of targets vs the 4 S3s.
This used to be one of my favorite ships, but it seems like there is a lot of very tough competition . I’m a Hurricane pilot, but I’m a bit of a sitting duck without a friend.
@@Farrister Haha, thanks! I am kinda, I have a few friends I play with but there are only like 5 or 6 of us on our best days. As I’ve been getting back into the game I’ve wanted to do more but it’s not easy organizing that sort of thing.
I'm a sabre owner, and all round it's a good ship, my favorite for asthetics alone. However, for competitive PVP, all medium fighters are in a rough patch, as light fighters will fly circles around you. Of course you can compensate with skill, but between two equal pilots of high skill level, an arrow or gladius will beat it. Thankfully dogfighting skill is a much higher contributing factor to success in PVP than ship choice.
My main huge issue with the Sabre and perhaps SC UI in general is that I feel so damn under-informed in it. I want to be able to always see Shields, Heat and Ammo at a glance when flying a dedicated fighter and the MFDs just don't cut it, not even close, as half of the time they are partly out of view anyway, even if you could find a good setup for them.
I just have to correct the part on the shields. Size 1 shield generators is standard for most if not all medium and small fighters with the majority only containing at max 2 generators. The sabre, however has 3 which when all active can provide shielding equivalent to a low tier size 2 shield generator, however they can be individually toggled to assist with your EM and IR when trying to enter and exit the stealth threshold. It should also be noted that the Sabre was originally designed and listed as a Space Supremacy fighter that had POTENTIAL for a lighter "footprint" then its competition. However with stealth becoming what it is, CIG needed a basis to formulate more stealth mechanics and altered the Aegis Sabres listing to dedicated stealth.
Yeah not much space. Just a seat strapped to a four gun turret with missles, and main engines, a quantum drive, all covered by enough armor plating to house all the components and fuel.
As someone who only started playing seriously in the last couple of months, it’s a bit depressing to see how much ammunition ballistic weapons used to get…..
I like the comet, but the weapons readouts bug out CONSTANTLY on me and I never know what they're doing, missiles work when they want to also, and it's absolutely broken. I hate it ONLY for that reason
Cool video, I own a Sabre and this sums it up nicely it’s still one of my favourite ships! Out of interest Farrister, do you use joysticks? Your flight skills look right up there and I’m on mouse keyboard for now. If you do use joysticks what’s your opinion overall?
I do use a HOTAS. I use a stick for pitch and roll, and have the strafes bound to it. Then I have a throttle for forward control and things like gear. Then I use rudder pedals for yaw. I do it all because it's what I'm used to from flight sims. Honestly I just suggest whatever works best for each person.
@@kemeras3689 sounds cool, just checked it out...is it hard to get used to, and how do you have yours set up, is it on your desk and does that work well?
@@cptnalgren I'm using 3M sticky tack on the bottom of the sticks to keep them firm on my desk, works great so they don't slide around and my chair height (with some ass pillows) gets me close to 90 degree but I'm getting the chair mounts from Monster tech and a new Ikea chair soon. There is a great video, I'll track it down for you, on how to set them up. Biggest hurdle for a new user is adjusting the curves in SC (important) and getting Target GUI setup. However it took me a few hours to do the setup and then over time I've refined my mappings. I love it, I'll be getting MKBs or Virpils in the future but these sticks are a great start. HOSAS is so intuitive to fly, my wife sat down to try it and she picked it up instantly.
This ship has been nerfed so badly from 3.12 when this video was made, should do an update with loss in shield number, agility, speed and component protection
In atmosphere I feel it handles better because of the more wide wing span. I really didn’t like what the gladius had to offer in atmosphere but it’s a superb light fighter in space

This is a ship that will inevitably find a home in my hangar.... it ticks the right boxes and is too damn pretty to ignore *sigh. Even if I never get better than competent at combat, flying a ship I feel good about flying has to count for something right? :)
We can't all be fighter aces, I think I'm a decent pilot but I'm definitely not a great pilot, but I feel a lot more comfortable in some ships than others. The Sabre is a really comfortable ship, I like how it flies.
Hello Farrister, quick question. Are you a car salesman in real life? I have all the big stuff including MSR but never considered a fighter because my PVE and PVP skills are horrid. But after watching that ship spit out lead I want one. Shame on you I really do not need anymore help buying things lol. Great vid precise and to the point and most of all you made the sale!
I have a sabre but i get demolished and chewed up alive by warden sentinel's, i cant compete with their firepower , HP, shields and EMP charges, my shields r dead the minutr they hit me and im also a goner right after..
Hurricane is good but not solo! You need a gunner for that top turret. And If yea don't have one you cut your firepower in half. Simple as that. So Saber is better.
sabre hurts bad in current meta....... as in it hurts to use it. mobility is shit, overheating, horrible profile. yeah 4xs3 is nice but if you cant move fast enough to land those hits, you are toast

@@Farrister Haha, thanks! I am kinda, I have a few friends I play with but there are only like 5 or 6 of us on our best days. As I’ve been getting back into the game I’ve wanted to do more but it’s not easy organizing that sort of thing.
I don’t see a Raven in your ships reviews. If you ever want to do a review on one I’d be happy to hand mine over to you for the day.
That's very kind :) at the moment I'm feverishly trying to earn aUEC which is keeping me quite busy!
@@Farrister I hear ya. Enjoy!
Do you often end up in PvP?
@@Farrister yes, though I seek it out.
Some are more natural than others :( but head tracking *really* helps!
Great ship and a great guide 🤩👍
Thanks Karo!
how do you get your hud like that
This was how it used to look, back in 3.12!
Thanks for sharing :)
Great review, kinda sad to see that the cockpit is the only space on the craft
Yeah not much space. Just a seat strapped to a four gun turret with missles, and main engines, a quantum drive, all covered by enough armor plating to house all the components and fuel.
I think that's not unusual for many of these fighters, especially the earlier ones
As someone who only started playing seriously in the last couple of months, it’s a bit depressing to see how much ammunition ballistic weapons used to get…..
Yeah...
The Sabre has two Size 1 shields now.
3.12 was a while ago now!
I just got one. It feels sorta heavy. Flies more like a vanguard than a hawk.
It does have a bit of a hefty feel!
I like the comet, but the weapons readouts bug out CONSTANTLY on me and I never know what they're doing, missiles work when they want to also, and it's absolutely broken. I hate it ONLY for that reason
I'm sure some of the UI elements have got worse over time lol
I have to say, I tried HOTAS and HOSAS (both without pedals) and the later option really works well for me.
Th16000m space sim dua HOSAS kit is a great and inexpensive start, love mine.
I do hope to revisit them all at some point, keeping ship reviews current would be a full time job I think!
@@Farrister lol very true
Nice video mate
Thank you!
How does the handling of the Saber compare to the Gladius?
The Sabre is a little heavier feeling, and drifts a lot more.
In atmosphere I feel it handles better because of the more wide wing span. I really didn’t like what the gladius had to offer in atmosphere but it’s a superb light fighter in space
I like it with two laser canons and two distortion canons.
Bound to different weapons groups?
@@Farrister yes
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tim :)
It's such a good ship
It is!
I paid pledge for it. Its very fun to fly
It sure is!
@farrister what’s your goto light-medium fighter
Gladius :)
@@Farrister why that over the Sabre
@@darrenganz1 I just like the way it flies!
How did you have an aiming pip with fixed weapons? I was told to have an aiming point they had to be gimbaled.
Oh I'm not sure, but I always have the PIP. I think you enable ESP?
@@Farrister I will have to figure that out. It’s the singular reason I have been using gimbaled weapons.
OMG how do i turn a hud on like this ????
It's how it used to look, back in 3.12!
@@Farrister lol... So they deliberatly made hud loke like a pile of dogshit or it was requested "by comunity" ? On every single ship. Including "alien" ships that use preety much exactly the same propulsion system as well ...
TTK looks very slow with those weapons. I feel like stock panthers overclocked demolish enemies a lot faster.
Could do - I tend not to overclock them!
This would be the beefiest size 2 fighter available though right? with almost comparable firepower to the superhornet?
Not sure what size 2 means, but with upgrades it can be fairly beefy :)
@@Farrister Oh idk if it's officially designated, but Erkul has all the ships in size categories, the small fighters are all 1 & 2, medium ships like cutlas black are 3 & 4, large are 5 & 6
Awesome and very helpful Video, as always! If you want to review a ship with limited avaiability (Mustang Omega, Phoenix Emerald, Reclaimer BIS, Mustang Alpha CitCon Edition, I'd be more than happy to help)
Thank you, how intriguing! I still have lots of regular ships on my to do list for the short term :(
@@Farrister Sure, no problem! There's no hurry to it ;) Just let me know :D
Does it still coming with 4 fixed size 3?
Yup!
Seeing Port Olisar again made me sad.
Never forget...
Should have shown the landing gear animation and done more third-person shots
Ah I do have captures of the gear animation, I just had a lot of shots I wanted to squeeze into this one lol. I try to keep more 1P shots in the review videos as it showcases what to expect from the pilots POV - what do you think would be a good proportion between 1P and 3P?
Any ship is worth the price if you have fun with it.
Proportional to the amount of fun? :D
First!! Both front weapons go back
I can't see the other side xD
@@Farrister will you be doing a review on the tonk when it comes out?
@@Admiral_Grufus maybe, depends if it warrants it!
@@Farrister fair enough
so im gonna buy that ship what is the best loadout for fighting another ships , im tired of my avenger titan ^^ i have the game for 1 month now so im not that good to equip my ship thx.
I would suggest going to erkul.games and having a play around on that site
Haha I'm too much of an introvert to be a salesman :p hope you are buying in game!!
Watching these videos a year after release, and seeing how long he can fire ballistic gatlings without running out of ammo just makes me sad....
Yeah...
Where my laser cannon squad at?
You a big fan of laser cannons?
I have a sabre but i get demolished and chewed up alive by warden sentinel's, i cant compete with their firepower , HP, shields and EMP charges, my shields r dead the minutr they hit me and im also a goner right after..
Do you mean in PvP?
@@Farrister yes, lol, theyre soo tough!
Hurricane is good but not solo! You need a gunner for that top turret. And If yea don't have one you cut your firepower in half. Simple as that. So Saber is better.
Better for solo, perhaps :)
谢谢你的视频,让我对佩刀有更深的看法❤。如果都是用arr的话,我在想Talon和sabre做VHRT的任务效率哪个会更高呢?
Plz do the Raven vertion
Need to get hold of one for that!
Sabre has been nerfed into the ground
I remember when Sabre was glorious, back in Arena Commander days
@@Farrister I honestly think it's pretty bottom tier in pvp
You are fucking wealthy. Good job
Haha it used to take me a couple of weeks of grinding for each new ship review, but then a kind viewer donated some aUEC for me to keep going!
skipped over so many exterior features
sabre hurts bad in current meta....... as in it hurts to use it. mobility is shit, overheating, horrible profile. yeah 4xs3 is nice but if you cant move fast enough to land those hits, you are toast
You mean in PvP?
@@Farrister of course. why would anyone touch pve lol
@@johndonovan7018 I love PvE!
