I did not know his story, yet I was rooting for him because of the rarity of finding a Filipino doing gymnastics so well. The outcome from this Olympiads had proven without any doubt that perseverance and strong spirit pay off. Plus that he is blessed with a physique that is perfectly adequate for gymnastics. Being away at so early age, alone and immersed in a foreign culture has certainly forged his character. Them is when you can find your real self. He learned a lot because he is being on the brink of quitting, but quit quitting! Perhaps just being a step short of a medal this time is the best motivation to go further. He is very young and, as long as he keeps his physical and mental integrity, he has a long way to go. 頑張ってカロイ!

Thank you Coach for training our Olympian. Not just trained but also became a parent to Caloy. He paid for their living expenses through his own pocket and made connections to allow him to study in the school for athletes. They both did have their own sacrifices. Even coach didnt have his personal life. I hope Yulo makes some time to thank him personally now though they have parted ways.

Ngayon ang daming nakapaligid sa kanya because of his success, pero wag nati b kalimutan si Coach na nagtrained sa kanya to be where he is now. I am now only watching this video after watching Carlos' success at the 2019 SEA Games, and I must say...watching what this kid had to sacrifice in order to keep up with his intensive training in Japan is crazy..but mad props to him. His perseverance totally pays off after having to move to a foreign country away from home and family, learn their language and go to school, all happening while training to be the best.
That is all both physically & mentally draining, especially for his age. But seeing him fight & strive through it is both inspirational & beautiful.

To think that Carlos is doing all these not only for his own fulfillment but most especially for his country, the Philippines. Napakalaking sakripisyo talaga. Maraming salamat din sa kanyang Japanese coach. If not for him Caloy's gymnastics career would not have prospered to what it is now. Most of all, sa ating Panginoon. He gifted Caloy with abilities to be a world class gymnast.
