I think the Philippine government also owes this coach a recognition and reward for he was the instrument as to why Carlos was able to bring honor and glory to the country. He's the very first and only person who believed in Carlos even when Carlos didn't believe in himself. He never gave up on Carlos even when Carlos was already quitting. He believed in Carlos that he could surpass the achievements of those Japanese gymnasts he considered idols, that he could also be a top gymnast, and that he could be a champion and win medals in the olympics...and true to Coach Kugimiya's confidence in him...Carlos did. I hope Carlos won't forget this coach and reaches out to him to give thanks.

Not only must Carlos be ever grateful to his coach we believed in him, Carlos must be grateful for all the organisations who believed in his coach and offered him the support that he received in Japan. This is what his coach reminded Carlos . The coach should be rewarded by the Philippines Government for the neglect to the gymnastics discipline with equipment that are falling apart and no funding for world class coaches.

Maybe that's the reason why Carlo's mom cheer for Japan in debt of Yulo's Japanese trainer for longest time ... and at that, 14:54 time she had had ill feelings with her son, maybe due to miscommunication_ misunderstanding. It doesn't mean she don't love Carlos. They got very limited time to be together to patch up. 🤔😔 in due time, they will be okey. ❤

I can see the sadness in him because he was struggling. Imagine being a young boy away from you home with no choice but to train abroad because of the lack of gov't support and functioning facilities in your home country. Homesickness, culture differences, language barrier, lack of motivation; napakarami niyang hinarap to get to where he is now. I am sure marami siyang natutunan sa Japanese coach niya and as a Filipino, sobrang grateful ko sa mga kumupkop sa kanya. But I can't just help but wish na sa sariling bansa natin, makapag establish rin ng fully functioning training centers to support our athletes. Nakaka-proud ang resiliency ni Caloy pero heartbreaking ito at the same time.

Yeah, he was able to focus with an awesome coach and no distractions from home. Unfortunately, he now has a totally different environment: His coach and trainers who helped him develop and focus is no longer there. He is back in the Philippines with a rock star celebrity status. Greedy people trying to kiss up and get a piece of his pie (unfortunately, some relatives too). And himself. I hope he doesn't get a super inflated ego. Well, at least his accomplishments have inspired more kids to try gymnastics. Hope to see more Filipino gymnasts out there. Most of us do have the ideal stature. Lol.

It seems that his ward is lacking true humility and sad to say that his japayuki is now causing a big rift between him and his family back in the Philippines. Even Filipinos don't feel comfortable to see her beside him. Arigatou Gozaimasu, you deserve a huge incentive from the Philippine Govt. Special recognition must be attributed to his Japanese coach for making Caloy's dream a reality....the pain and joy of bringing out the best in Caloy...not just an olympic champion but as a whole person. We owe this Japanese coach a lot. This selfless coach!

Thank you Coach Mune for all the sacrifices. Sorry, that you are not receiving enough acknowlegement for all your support. I don't know what happened to Caloy, he can't even call out your name whenever he express his gratitude for reaching and winning the gold. I am dissappointed of him.

He spoke well of his former coach in another interview. Pls. don't make sweeping statements like that.

This is incredible. I didn’t expect his training to be documented. This coach is a great teacher. The Philippines should reward him.

Sugoi na. It's good to see all the hardship & challenges behind the success of Carlos Yulo. Kugiyamasan arigato gozaimasu. Anatawa yoi kochidesu. Otsukaresama deshita. The method of writing an essay every night was a good approach in expressing Carlos' thoughts & feelings. It helped build a closer relationship between the couch & the student. Congratulations, Carlos! All the hard work & prayers came into fruition to fulfill your dreams. Keep up the faith & humility. Be of good courage because God is with you. You're an inspiration to the Filipino youths. After all, the glory belongs to God 🙏.

If I remember right, he is the team coach of the PH gymnastics team. Last year, the Japanese embassy, through the assistance of Coach Mune, donated olympic standard gymnastic apparatus to PH. This might be the one being used by the PH team for training. Govt should give him an award for all his efforts. There was also a time when there were no financial supporters and Coach Mune has to shoulder personally some of their expenses. A true sensei and he deserves an appreciation/award from the Govt. Advise na lang sana ni Carlos kay PBBM na bigyan naman ng parangal si Coach.

I can't help but feel deep admiration and respect to Carlos' dedication - he trains gymnastics while also studying Japanese. As a Japanese learner, I know the difficulties of learning the language and one really needs to dedicate ample amount of time each day to get better at speaking, writing, etc. Carlos managed to do that while keeping up with the physical demands of his training.
Respect goes as well to his coach, Kugimiya-san, for going the extra mile - he even checks Carlos' Japanese journal and patiently corrects it every day. I do hope that he gets the recognition that he deserves.

❤❤❤amazing Coach❤❤❤ i now understand why Carlos’ parents kept on thanking him in all their interviews❤ Carlos’ mom’s post about rooting a Japenese athlete may be her way of expressing her gratefulness for the country who in a way accommodated her son❤
