Ferry was at his best when he was adding to the weird theatrical ambiance of the music. The more he tried to be completely up front and singing like a crooner, the less I liked him and the resulting music Hits like Avalon can't hold a candle to this. Sure, the later stuff was hugely successful, but the early music changed what you could expect from music.
Ferry's voice has the exact amount of tiredness which is needed to catch the melancholic vibe of this track. MASTERPIECE!!
