This is a very interesting video, filmed in the "cinerama" format and made specifically for screening in cinemas adapted to screen the super wide, curved screen, three-projector Cinerama format, which was popular in the early 1950s and 1960s. Mahendra and his government of the time did many good things to open Nepal up to the world and create an infrastructure that made the lives of many Nepali people a lot better. But...there are always two sides to every story,...there is always a Yin to every Yang. Because he was King and was believed by many people to be an incarnation of Vishnu the preserver god, does not make him a perfect man or spiritually above any other man or woman. He was a man who happened to be born into the Shah dynasty. He had the backing and support of his government ministers and millions of Nepali people of all ethnicities and castes. Unfortunately, I believe it was the "system" that was more was flawed than the King personally and his noble ambitions were thwarted by the beaurocracy that still existed within the elite upper classes at that time, as a result of the despotic, power-hungry rule of the Rana family for over 100 years. Under his rule and also that of his son Birendra, thousands (perhaps millions) of ordinary Nepali people still endured a very difficult and hard life. Considering everything that has happened in Nepal since Mahendra' s time, and especially prior to the formation of the People's Movement, and since the 10 Year Civil war that followed, that resulted in the birth of democracy and the abolishment of the monarchy, I personally have seen many changes for the good in Nepal. I think it's pointless to want or to even think about restoring the monarchy. It seems to me that the last King, ex-King Gyanendra, never had the full respect and support of most of the Nepali people like Tribhuvan, Mahendra and Birendra had. Best to look forward to the future, remember and learn lessons from the past and not long for returning to a Monarchial system that benefitted the wealthy and inner circle of the royal family, and perhaps a small but growing group of middle class beaurocrats, but actually did comparitively little for the vast majority of ordinary, struggling Nepali families living in the villages. But this is just my opinion and I respect other opinions on this subject. Jai Nepal 🙏🙏😊😊❤❤

power always treated the public like slaves. How pathetic was the people's situation at that time. And to those commenters who think this is a golden era, go and search for the meaning of the golden era first.
@@sunainapanthy5953 yeah.. golden era of Nepal was during lichavi and malla dynasties when kings used to prioritize livelihood, community and social lives of the citizens and the kingdoms were self sufficient with own productions. They made squares, temples, pavilions etc. where public gatherings could happen and everyone could enjoy festivals and carnivals in unity. In this video, the major parts of city were cleaned and decorated for the guests in this coronation event only. Nothing beneficiary was done to people by Shah dynasty and rana ruler for almost 200 years until 1960s when tourists came to Nepal and other neighboring countries started to modernize as well so king had to develop some roads, industries, infrastructures with help of Chinese, Indians, Japanese etc
Still Nepal was the poorest nation on earth don’t think only Kathmandu is only a Nepal or some few parts like pokhara or dharan etc. during that time none of our Nepalese provinces were given any priority for the development yes obviously during this period people were illiterate and afraid to raise their questions against King .

Now all the natiral beauty of nepal has been devastated 🥺🥺🥺
The late king’s soul must be devastated right now because he had tried his best to make Nepal a country which everyone respects. Now look at our leaders, trying every possible way to degrade the value, the beauty, the people. I wish Nepal would be the same as before. Clean, Simple & Calming🥹🥹
I indeed that people was poor but was well managed and beautiful

Surreal and gold...
Masterpiece
power always treated the public like slaves.
12:50 listen carefully
Nepal looks more developed and advanced before than it looks now.
golden time has gone
i would rather have this Nepal than todays !
