Electricity generation was started in 1911 A.D in Nepal ,and till 1957 there were already 2 power plants: Pharping Hydropwer, 500 kW (1911), Sundarijal Hydropower, 640 kW (1934) in operation. Albeit, the electricity distribution was only centered around the capital Kathmandu!

It is very interesting to see how rural mountains routes of mid and eastern Nepal looked like 62 years before. Name of valley and rivers are correct but name of some tribes and villages seems differently spelled. The hanging bridge made of vines .. and a porter crossing the Arun river multiple times just hanging in a vine rope is amazing.
Now roads and so called development had made people's life obviously more comfortable but also exposed us to disease like coronavirus. Around 100 years ago when Spanish Flu epidemic killed 5 crore people in India not a single death in Nepal was recorded because of accessibility.

My sincere gratitude to all those who preserved this valuable documentary to present days.... I was born 2 years after this documentary... I could see through my eyes what my country looked at that time... is the name Haimendorf shown in this film an Anthropologist?? Because some anthropological / sociological research papers written by Haimendorf are taught as a reference to the M. A. Students in our university. 👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹👌👌👌👏👏👏💐💐💐2020/4/3 from Nepal

Wow its a 65 year old video this Jan. Wonderful document and beautifully presented and spoken by Sir David Attenborough. Nepal used to be much better place to live since it used to be an independent country at those times. Roads and transportations, infrastructure has been greatly facilitated now but those peaceful environment and our ancient cultures will be always missed. Our sincere gratitude to our ancestors 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙏🙏
    Long live Nepal 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
