This information has been incredibly valuable... Thank you! I'm in the beginning phases of starting my interior design business and I appreciate you sharing all of your knowledge, as well as positive & negative experiences alike. This surely prepares us for real world situations we may potentially face. I'm excited to become a new subscriber! ❤️
Ahh, so happy to see you here ❤️ I hope that my videos give you as much insight as possible. I always approach it from an authentic place so do take some of it with s pinch of salt 😁 everyone's experience is so different. But good luck with your new business! I hope it goes well 🤞✌️😊
Ahh, Sadie! IT'S an honour to be on your to-do list ❤️❤️ Glad you're enjoying the content! Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see a video about!
thank for sharing!!!!! I'm not working on my fee proposal for my first client ever and you and your videos are sooooo helpful!! thanks so much for taking the time and create such valuable content!
The story at the end is so crazy to me, sorry that happened. But, 10-15% is the normal percentage of design fees for a project - especially if it was project management AND design. You should have gotten the 5 for sure. Thanks for your video. I like how direct it is and laymen for people who you plan to work with have an easy grasp. Because design phases are intricate to explain sometimes. I personally have a hard time not getting into the weeds. 😂
I know it's not the best result but I learned loads from that experience and that's what this career really is- a constant learning curve ✌️ I'm charging a lot more these days as well so time kind of sorts out a lot of things 😁 Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
UGH! People are SO untrustworthy - I am so sorry that happened to you. I have had a few of those but on the client end...taking ideas and not paying. So frustrating when it is our intellectual property!
Hi Sintija, thank you for this video, great content and thanks for your honesty.❤ I am starting my residential business and just had my first customer meeting and I already feel like I sold too much in my design brief , oh well...as you said it is a learning curve and i do want to learn from it.xx
Hi Ewa! Yes, it will all come with time. You will learn sooooooo much in your first two years! I'm almost a decade in and still learning with every new project. It never stops! Just aim to get better, charge closer to your ideal price and manage your time better with every new project 👍 Good luck!! 😊😊
thanks a lot! I'm just about to start my first interior project and I'm confused about preparing the fee proposal. And your videos really help! greetings from indonesia 😊😊
Good luck!! 🤞🤞 First few projects are always the hardest. The anxiety around design fees never goes away I think. But you do get more confident and wiser the more you do it 👍💯
Hiya! I mostly work on commercial projects and do not place the orders myself. I will provide the client with a quite from to FF&E supplier and the client will make the purchase. I will still liaise with the supplier re specification and delivery details but the pure monetary responsibility stays with he client. I haven't got the insurances in place to take on that kind of responsibility 👍 Hope that helps 🙂🙌
I know, it's just life. The ups and downs of self employment. But I learned so much from that experience so no regrets! 😊 Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! 🙌👌
Just discovered your channel new subscriber here. I love this video so much as well as a few others I've watched. Is there a pdf available of this document I would really love one to use as a template tfs love your sense of humor
Haha, thanks Katherine! Nice to know that I'm not the only one who finds myself funny 😁😝 I've not got any templates as such but this has given me an idea for a video so I might film it for next month. Keep an eye out for that 👍 and thanks for joining the fam, lovely to have you here 😘
Ahh hey Rama! Lovely to see your name in the comments 😊 hope you're doing well. I'm not sharing the document itself but if you have any further questions just drop me a DM and I'll see if I can help you 👍😊
Oh, this is a whole different topic. There's a few different ways how to go about it. You could do the whole thing on your own, create a shopping list for your client and let them do it themselves or it could be a mix of both 🤷🏼. I'll add this topic on my content list and create a video in the new year 👍😊
I'd suggest that you try to get hold of them every possible way, but sometimes you just have to let it go and accept the situation as is. It is a risky business. I've even been consulting on this topic with business advisors and asking about contracts and all the other legalities, and it seems like there is not much that ties the client or a contractor to the deal. Unless you have lots of money to spend on court cases, your chances of getting justice are quite slim. It all comes down to just trying to work with people who respect your business from day one and make sure they have a legitimate background and work history. Hope this helps!
@@SpaceForEdit thank you for your feedback! It's been a challenge for me to find a contractor that is committed. Granted my projects right now are small and most don't think it's worth their time. It's so frustrating, if I could do the work myself, I would!!
You'll get there. Might just need to start with a handyman, someone who can do any little job and then move on to bigger companies. You can always say to the client that you do not offer to manage the install. Then it's up to them to find the trades 👍 Hope it all works out for you!
Hiya! I dont think its possible to charge in that way. Each project is so different and requires a different level of input from the designer. I talk about hourly fees on some of my other design fee videos. See if that helps you in any way!
Thank you but it's ok now. I learned so much from that experience and have been standing up for myself ever since. Sometimes we really need to end up int he mud to make sure that we have more success in the future ✌️🙂
Goodness, I hope you have quadrupled what you were charging then! I am in the USA so it's probably a bit different, but I would never work for that low, even as a beginner.
It is a tough world out here for designers in the UK. At least if you're not working in the luxury design/ high-end field or get a commercial project with a healthy budget 🤷🏼 I have heard that USA designers are charging larger fees but again it all depends on the niche you're in and the type of client you're working with. One thing I've learned from my career in design is that for most people/businesses hiring an interior designer is a luxury so finding clients that are willing to pay is a lot harder.
Super duper helpful!! Thank you for being so transparent. Love your content
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by 🥰

🧡 thank you! There's too much faff out there so I'm always aiming for authenticity in my videos 👌🙂

Yep, happens more often in our industry than we'd like to admit. But we move 🙌😉 Fail fast, learn and move on to bigger and better things!

Thank you for this video and information sharing with all of us!
Ahh, my pleasure 😉 thanks for stopping by 🙌🙌
Great Video, and thanks so much for sharing :) especially since it's a touchy subject.
It is, right! But I thought it was the perfect example especially because it went pear shaped for me in the end 😁🤣 haha, but that's life and we move 👍
I love your content! Who orders the supplies for your projects? The home owners, you, contractors?

How do you arrange the purchases with clients?

@@SpaceForEdit thank you. I be waiting to watch that video ❤️ love your work
What should be done when someone (client, GC, etc) goes silent? Thats one of my biggest fears

Woop woop! Happy to help ❤️ Hope you can charge more than I did with this project though 😁
Do you have a link to the document by any chance? It’s blurry on the screen.
Hiya! Sorry I haven't. I didn't really intend to make it a template. Just wanted to use it as an example this time 👍😊
Hello ma'am What can we charge for 2D and 3D design? In Sqft
Hiya! I dont think its possible to charge in that way. Each project is so different and requires a different level of input from the designer. I talk about hourly fees on some of my other design fee videos. See if that helps you in any way!
Brilliant video 🙌
Ahh Adele, thanks for watching! Hope this was useful 👌 (do aim to charge more then I did though 😁🙈)
This is soooo helpful, thank you so much.
Yay! So glad it's helped you! 😉😊👍
Thank you for bring so informative and honest. Wishing you the very best. G Ire
I've learned a lot since then. Definitely charging better fees now and being more cautious. But that's life and this profession. You learn by doing 😊👍
Thanks sooo much ❤
You're welcome! 🙂👌
I'm so sorry you have to go through this
